I put some anise oil on my chicken to give it a little smell. What I do is cut up the chicken the day before and add the oil in a zip lock bag and let it marinate overnight. I caught several cats last weekend.
But how do you know that it was the anise that caught them? Just like the jello chicken, garlic chicken etc. It’s the chicken that gets the bite, not necessarily all the other crap people put on it.
I don't know about river monsters but chicken sure catches the dinks and fun-size. It reminds me of catching 1-3 pound schoolie largemouth until my arms gave out. Rebel divers in shad colors and white Rooster Tails would slay them out from under the shad. The biggest I ever ran into doing that was a 6-pounder. Fishing is perhaps the most fun you can have and go home with sore arms.

Went out last weekend on the kayak using nothing but chicken, first time doing that. Got six on the Mississippi on Saturday. Just one on Piasa Creek, but the gar seem to be out in numbers there. Guess it's just what they want right now.
But, but, but, it's SUMMER!! Went noodle fishing last week on Truman Lake in MO. Only took 12 noodles as they can wear an old man out fast. Was baiting #5 when the first noodle went down. Had 3 going at one time and all three were heading in different directions. Had my limit of blues and 6 channels in about 3 1/2 hrs. They averaged about 4 lbs. Guess what bait? CHICKEN! THIS SLOT LIMIT FOR BLUES ON TRUMAN SUX!!!
I use crayfish oil quite often on my baits, it helps catch them where I go because their belly's are always full of crayfish. Just be clean about it because the night critters will be all over your boat if you don`t.

I went turkey hunting a few years ago and shot one early that morning. After cleaning the turkey, I decided to go catfishing. I found some worms and gathered up whatever I could find real quick, including the gizzard and liver out of the turkey. I caught 4 or 5 cats on pieces of that gizzard. They will bite anything when they are biting good

I use chicken and I get a lot of smaller fish but every once in a while I'll get a 40lber. So you can catch big fish on the chicken. I haven't caught a Flat head using chicken though. I am not sure chicken is good for Flatheads. Blue cats seem to love it.
you know yesterday i was in savannah tn. wich really is basically in my backyard and I had chicken breast and I did the strawberry kool-aid thing the water was up some and I caught a flathead catfish that was definitely a surprise they have been known at times to hit on dead but prefer live over all I've been thinking about the chicken breast thing and I believe they see a piece of chicken on the hook and the fish think mussel it kinda looks like a mussel in the water white looking flat kind off and imagine if you cut a piece that's dangling on the hook kinda wavy in the water like a mussel out of its shell I don't know just a thought plus I have noticed when they are on a mussel bed feeding they are more likely and almost certain to hit chicken to where you would not even get a tap on skip jack worms or blood baits or whatever else you might use !!
Were i live catfish wont touch chicken breast i probaly wasted 30 lbs of it . I usally fished it along side other baits like live bream gizzard shad and crawfish caught fish on everything but the chicken cant even get them to nibble on it
I went out to Utah Lake three weeks ago and caught three respectable (for Utah) catfish. I went last weekend and didn't catch Jack Squat. I think it is because there weeks ago I forgot to say "Woooooo" when I caught the three fish.

I use chicken and cut carp out here in Arizona. I like to cut the carp and chicken up and put it all in one bag so the flavor gets intermingled.

Use a 6/0 treble hook and wrap it with sewing thread after the hook is baited.thread cleans of with nail clippers.

In the summer you see some mussels dying off and floating. Maybe the catfish mistake the chicken for mussels.
