Miranda, you don't know how validating it is for me to see otherd like you who read vintage children's novels. I'm in my 30s now but went to a very unhappy state school where my peers were reading Goosebumps and Jacqueline Wilson (if they were reading at all), meanwhile I was reading Malory Towers and the Ballet Family and the Chalet School etc etc- it was pure escapism for me as I felt like a fish out of water in real life. It's been so wonderful to know that others out there are equally as passionate about these types of stories. I wish I could tell my 14 year old self to hang in there- it gets better! Thank you for the joy your videos bring me.

I have all my Miss Read books, the full sets and others! And all my Georgette Heyer books in my bedroom, by my bed, they are what I call my comfort books! The children's book that I have read the most, and have 4 copies of different prints and stages of wear is The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Gouge. I'm glad I'm not the only person who has Christmas reads, which come out every winter!!!

I read my first La Comtesse de Ségur book when I was 7. I've been collecting this beloved French collection ever since. Although not having much money, whenever we were out shopping and near a bookshop, my dear mother always bought me a new book. I've been collecting them since and my girls have read them as well.

Oh my goodness, Miranda, this reminded me that I read the Chalet School and the Abbey Girls when I was young. I think the books were my mum’s when she was a girl. I’ve no idea what happened to them. Like you, I’ve had books in storage for years - not wanting to part with them, so I’ve lost track of exactly what I own. One day I hope to have them all together again and beautifully arranged so that I can enjoy them.

Dear Miranda, what a wonderful treat this video was! I really love to see what kind of books you have and collect I always get a lot of inspiration of your bookshelf videos and I've already bought a huge amount of books which I came across on your bookshelf. So many authors I didn't know before and really like to read. Because of you I started to collect Alison Uttley's books because I so enjoyed reading 'the country child'. I started to dedicate one of my shelves to the Comfort Book Club. I haven't read all yet (because I only found your channel last December) but it already looks beautiful. By the way, you look radiant in that lovely dress! I am so glad that you posted your inspiring video today! Have a wonderful week with your mom. I loved her newsletter last week, thank you so much❤❤

This video is a joy to behold. I love Miss Read books (many of my peers haven't heard of her!), and I am coveting those hardback editions. Also, I inherited three of my Mum's Lorna Hill Sadler's Wells books - again, I'm so pleased to see you have the whole set. Finally, I live in the town where O Douglas and her brother John Buchan lived as children and pass their former home on a daily basis. In our local park, there is a line of trees that O Douglas planted, so I remember her every time I walk along that path.
Thank you for this lovely video. It's so nice to see a kindred spirit on here.

I have a few Anthony Trollope also. One of my favorite authors is Catherine Cookson and I have a lot of her books also. I do like to collect vintage Gothic romance novels with lovely book jackets. I do have some Mrs. E.D E.N. Southworth books which are fun to read. Several other authors including Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. Many other authors that are too numerous to list. Hi Miranda, I always enjoy your you tubes and although I don't collect vintage books per se, Tasha Tudor is one of my favorites. A few years ago my husband bought me a first edition Edgar Allan Crow by Tasha. I wanted to share with you an exciting purchase I just made. I had watched one of your you tubes around the holiday's when you found an out of print book which I've been looking for ever since. It is called, THE BRONTE YEARBOOK and I finally found a copy through Abe books from a seller in the UK. Cannot wait to get my copy which the seller said is new and in unmarked condition. It's finally warming up here in Minnesota and I too am looking forward to the return of the swallows. Thank you for all your lovely you tubes. Sending love 🌻

Thanks for bringing back childhood memories Miranda.
I was also a bookworm and books wer almost better
    companions to me than people.
To this day people sometimes take me for
    a pushover because I'm not street-wise but then they're
astonished that l push back against dominant types.
I even pray for my literary friends Agatha, Enid, EM Forster,
Somerset Maugham,Hardy to mention but a few.
I let go a lot of books and it was possible once it's a
conscious uncoupling besides the fact that all my Thomas
Hardy books were cheap penguin classics . I felt l could
them again if l changed my mind.

I really enjoyed watching you rearrange your bookshelf with your vintage books. You have a wonderful collection. I have a small collection of wonderful old books too. I finally found a vintage book that I read as a child that was the first book I remember reading that I loved. It was called “Five little Peppers and how they grew” by Margaret Sidney dated 1938. It was a old book even when I read it but i remember that I loved reading about the Pepper family. I will try to find the “Wind Boy”, the illustration on the cover is beautiful. I remember you saying you were hoping to read it soon in your last video. I am loving your spring commonplace book I signed up for as soon as you posted it. I have my own that I have been adding to over the years. I never knew what to call it since it wasn’t a diary or journal, but now I know. Thank you. 💕

I grew up on my mother’s books, so subsequently read whatever books I could find in her shelves, including Monica Edwards who is one of my favourite authors. I did collect them a little just to find the ones my mother didn’t have, but they were hard to find and expensive in Australia. I was so happy when I discovered Girls Gone By Publishers. I can now say I have the fully set of Romney and Punchbowl books from GGBP! I would say they were the ones I focused my main collecting on, although I have many more books now by other authors.

Yes, a calamity indeed 😂😂! it's the second title in Margaret J Baker's charming children's series. The first one is easy to find as it was published as a Puffin (Castaway Christmas). Highly recommended if you enjoy vintage children's stories too ❤️ 📚 P.S. You can read more about it on this blog post I wrote a couple years ago: mirandasnotebook.com/blog/cut-off-from-crumpets

Hi Miranda, this is one of my very favorite book videos of all time. I added the books you mentioned in the beginning to my tbr, especially for spring reading. I like how you rearranged your bookcases. It makes more sense to have the old books together plus it looks very pleasing to see. While there are some current authors I do like, such as Kate Morton, I find I enjoy the older books more. I have several book shelves of older books (published before 1950), which are mostly children’s collections and I have all of Charles Dickens but 2 books which were lost in a fire. I have some random older books too, with some inscriptions to my Grandma and Grandfather when they were young, and even a little old book dated 1860 to my Great Grandfather when he was a child. Im about your Mom’’s age and feel the older stories suit my reading tastes better. I greatly admire your book collection. I would like to add more vintage and old books to my collection too. So I will be rewatching your video about a hundred times for suggestions. Thank you!

This is my first video of yours to watch and I really enjoyed it! Your voice is so pleasant! I love all your books and found so much inspiration there.❤ do you have a good reads account? I know that I would love the inspiration from your reads. I love the Miss reed books but I don’t own any as yet. I grew up reading lots of old classics on my paper white kindle because they were free and i grew to love them so much! I never really read children’s series though aside from those written by Louisa may Alcott and G. A. Henty because I just never came across them! But no I so enjoy them. Some of my favorites series are the Ruth Fielding series, Betty Gordon, Annette, the Radio boys, the Rover boys, the areoplane girls, the areoplane boys, the Boy Scouts, and the campfire girls.❤

    Hi Miranda,
I am really impressed with your book collections and the awesome organisation of your books. I did start collections of childrens books but my mother took them away:( However, I have started to hunt them down and start up my collections again. I love the school stories, as well as Enid Blyton, I liked the Sue Barton Nurse series to name a few. My uncle used to give me books for Christmas and I also used to get books for Christmas from Sunday school:) They were always loved and cherished.

I love going to second hand bookshops and explore them to find treasures. And I'm not picky about the state of the book except when the pages fall out, but I'm willing to make an exception whenever I find a vintage book of a title that I love regardless of its state, I always hope that I will magically find some professional who could restore it.
