They absolutely need to expand on the military/battle gameplay, a medieval kingdom builder just isnt the same without ze Landknechte and peasants fighting in the cornfields, sending them out on missions is not enough. Even the building itself feels more rewarding when the walls and gates actually matter and you can plan out where the enemy might come from and put a guard tower at a bridge or chokepoint ect. It gives the whole game a sense of metaprogression about why you are building all this other then looking nice.
