As a kid, I learned so much about baseball listening to Tony Kubeck when my dad and brothers would watch the NBC Game of the Week growing up as a kiddo in the '70s.
The second inning epitomizes what I loved about baseball and the Cardinals in the early to mid-80's. Speed, speed, speed. They wound up with two runs off of one hit. Ozzie scored from second on a sac fly. They knew how to manufacture runs.
At 1:46:22 that's me in the red jacket in the middle-left part of the screen, waving as the camera pulls back!! I was just 20 then. My Dad put in for the ticket "lottery" and got 4 bleacher seats for the 3 ALCS home games against the Angels and the 3 in the WS. Sad that the Brew Crew hasn't been back to the WS since.
82 was one of the last years to feature weekend day games. They did it for a few more years but by the late 80s, day baseball at the WS was a thing of the past.
Around the 31:00 mark they made a great comment about how a speedy base runner will effect a infielder, pitcher and a catcher. Then 2 batters later they score 2 runs on a SAC FLY! Its amazing how speed on the bases have left the game of baseball but someday it will comeback. Its slowly starting to now in 2023
Also amazing how Garagiola saw it coming. Before the ball reached Thomas he said "this will score AT LEAST one". I was at this game. We were sitting a few rows behind the dugout behind the third base line (before we got kicked out, we had standing room tickets), so we had a great view of this play.
Never heard of Hudson show. Must of not lasted too long. Hudson would be gone in 3 or 4 years also. Good point I thought of the same thing when I heard it. What the heck happened at 1:37, leave the TV alone.
Back when I was a HUGE Baseball fan. You could not give me a free ticket to attend a game today. They permanently lost me with their support of the BLM Protests last year. I'm still a fan of the yesteryear players.
Ok mr uneducated, Lost you with blm ? Well you people were angry when looters were looting and yet it’s absolutely wrong to peacefully protest? You people said to peacefully protest , If all lives mattered earlier in Americas history, We would not need it .
We know you voted for Trump. We know you would have been against the civil rights movement as unlawful. You would have told mlk that he was a communist agitator and Booker t would roll over in his grave .

Amber P, growing up in the 1980's. it was Cubs announcer Lou Boudreau for me.
Nothing like a World Series game during the daytime!
We haven’t had a daytime WS game since 1987, and the last one scheduled was in 1988, but the Dodgers won the WS before it got to a Game 6…
@@michaelholman517minKC and that game had no sunshine
The 1988 one, was it scheduled for a 1pm or 4pm Pacific Time start?@michaelholman517minKC
I'm a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, but I loved that Brewers team back then too. They were my 2nd favorite.

Nothing like afternoon WORLD SERIES BASEBALL
Wish they would bring it back!!!
Amen
Day games yes please!
@@ptduncan NO
The networks call the shots nowadays!
Thanks for posting the whole series. Really brings back memories.
Miss Tony Kubek as co-commentator in baseball games so knowledgeable

1:39:18 - That bottom of the 7th! An incredible 2-out rally.
I can't believe that this is almost 40 years ago
40 now
This is awesome!

1984 Tigers Padres was the last one
@@ptduncan I believe the Twins and Cardinals played a day game at the Metrodome in 1987. But I get your point.
Make weekend games during the day for the World Series
Agree!
You're giving the people who run sports too much credit. They're not that smart.
Thank you
I remember they used that montage before Game 4 of 1984 World Series too, ending with the Orioles celebrating in 1983
That was awesome.
Brewers had 5 hall of famers on this team ..... Wow.
And didn't win the series...haunts me to this day
@@jamesleverentz6294 I bet James . I was Lucky growing up in Toronto. I was 9/10 years old when the Jay's went back to back in 92/93
@@briandonnelly3968 I'd say that's extremely lucky! And I'm extremely envious!
Many still say to this day, if Rollie Fingers wasn’t out with an injury during the postseason, they would’ve won it all in ‘82.
@@CoopLipski Gorman Thomas had 4 hits, 4 walks, and 1 HR (.344 OPS) the entire post season.
1:51:29 .......... even hits like that could cause an uproar in those days. See kids ..... there's more to the game than a HR or a K.

That Ozzie Smith double play at 1:18:38 was just pure baseball brilliance. Wow.
George Hendrick’s classic closed stance is highlighted at 8:23
Back in the day when they showed players wives in the stands.
1:18:32 ozzie being ozzie. youngsters, he did smooth stuff like this in the heat of battle ALL THE TIME.
Game started at 12 noon local (central) time.
U lie. Shadow s are long from the start
49:35 A still healthy, robust, Rock Hudson. Garagiola comments what a handsome man he is. Dick Enberg quickly changes the subject.

The Godfather of AIDS Mr Rock Hudson ladies and gentlemen
Joe Garagiola (PBP) & Tony Kubek (C) 1-2/8-9
Dick Enberg (PBP) Garagiola/Kubek (C) 3-7
💪🏿💯
6 runs after 2 outs without a home run is baseball at its' best
There is NO reason why they can't have daytime World Series games nowadays. At least one or two.

Great video. I could've used less shots of the wives. How intrusive for them. I'm glad they've stopped that practice.
7:14: A French horn???
please more Tigers from the 80s.
Nothing like choking on a hot dog at the ballpark mid big play
Jeffrey Dahmer was nearby in a gay night club while this was going on.
2:18:03 Pure filth.
It's taken a lot of years to fully appreciate how fucking terrible Joe Garagiola was ......
He was much better the following season when he slid over to the color commentator role next to Vin Scully. That was what I remember from the 80s…
So is your comment. 👎
