In 2019, The Malay Times conducted interviews across Malaysia with several thousand Malaysians, alongside an online survey involving tens of thousands more Malaysians. The results were absolutely shocking, over 78% of Malaysians expressed that Malaysia would not dare go to war with Singapore due to Malaysia's significant reliance on Singapore as well as inferior military compared to Singapore. Approximately 11% of Malaysians mentioned they do not know what to do if Singapore were to attack Malaysia. Another 10% of Malaysians stated that they would flee Malaysia if Malaysia ever dare declared war with Singapore. Only less than 1% of Malaysians indicated they would stay and fight Singapore. In light of these findings, from a strategic standpoint, one could argue-drawing from Sun Tzu's The Art of War-that Singapore has achieved the "ultimate victory" because Malaysia's internal instability would lead to collapse even before any formal declaration of war with Singapore, sparing Singapore from firing a single gunshot or expending any resources at all and just sit down, relax, drink a cup of tea maybe and see how Malaysia be defeated without spending any resources at all.

Can or not S'pore defend itself ?? War is never predictable, not even for military xperts. Even if so, what's the motive or objective for this question??
It was reported that both China & Russia are against Singapore joining BRICS. One day all the ASEAN nations and many other Asian countries would probably be joining BRICS and Singapore would be left out. Russia had branded Singapore as one of the unfriendly countries. If Singapore were to have conflicts with any countries, no one would come to render help. As a small nation it is not wise to sanction Russia.
Well I expected a much more in-depth coverage. Ukraine has shown that hardware is but a part of fighting a war. Also, in which universe is an F-16 better than the F-15? Even the F-16V (which Singapore's F-16s are all upgraded to) is not going to be able to go head-to-head with an F-15, let alone an F-15SG, which is closer to the F-15EX. RSAF fighter jets are ALWAYS outfitted with additional secret Israeli tech, so it's even more capable than the American versions. F-15SG has a much larger AESA radar (with higher signal processing capability) than the upgraded but smaller AESA radar in the F-16V. The F-15SG can track, target and fire at more enemies at longer range than the F-16V. The number of beyond visual range AMRAAMs the F-15EX can carry is more than double that of the F-16V. When it comes to close range dogfight, the F-15SG twin engine generally can sustain a turn much longer than the F16V, which loses a lot of energy (speed) doing sustain turns due to the less powerful single engine. When that happens, the F-16V becomes a sitting duck. Lastly, any invading forces will have to fight in ultra urban places where the casualty is going to be astronomical, including a lot of underground tunnels. But the most important defense is having friends who are willing to stand with us in wartime.
Why do you think Singapore has air assets overseas?? Does the nearby foreign nations can deploy 100s of missiles in a wave? They dun even have 50 combat aircraft of gen 4.5 and above.. ground based surface to surface missiles, they also hardly have any..
Singapore's neighbours are not the threat. For them to bring down Singapore would be like cutting off their arm or leg. Moreover, what is there to gain for any neighbour in conquering tiny Singapore? There will be capital flight and no natural resources to take over. Singapore's financial hub is needed by its neighbours, and as stories have emerged recently, it is also a stepping stone for the very rich in SEA to take their money out from their own countries. As it is now, In SEA, Indonesia will become the economic backbone with Singapore continuing to be its trading and financial hub. ASEAN losing Singapore would be bad for ASEAN members. The most apparent threat would be the People's Republic of China. Taking over Singapore and having a military / naval base there would be a great strategic feat for China. By now, China probably knows all the details of SIngapore's military and defensive systems. Can China take over Singapore through military force? What do you think? As for the Five Power Defense Agreement, it is merely a consultative grouping, and a relic of the British Commonwealth. Upon an attack by China, Singapore's closest ally Malaysia can't do much. Malaysia's economy has dove-tailed with China's quite a lot, so it would be difficult to respond. Malaysia's military capability can't do much. Australia, the UK and New Zealand are too far away.

As a Singaporean, i can say I've learned more about Singapore's military in this short video than all the social studies classes I've attended combined.
Depend on the US? Nope. Never. Since 1941, we learned the bitter lesson that ultimately we can rely on no one else to fight and die for us. Hence, today Singapore has NO allies. Not even one. The closest is the FPDA, where partner nations will CONSULT if any one is attacked, and no doubt issue very angry words at the aggressor. Yes, the core to the country's defence is indeed diplomacy. A very careful dance between all the major powers and countries in the region. Not no permanent friends and no permanent enemies, only permanent interests, as I think Gladstone once said of England, but for Singapore it is permanent interests with everyone as friends as far as possible. If country Z does choose to attack, countries A to Y will protest and support, militarily if necessary, simply because they have too many billions of investments in the country.
Most of Singapore's conscripts (past and present) are always whining about the time wasted to serve and defend the island. If we consolidate all the stories from these complaint kings, I am quite sure it will be like 10 million pages (A4, double sided) long.
don't get too overconfident, singapores population is tiny compared to its surrounding neighbors. In a protracted war against a larger country with a larger population its not viable, they could inflict heavy loses but they wont be able to replace their own as easily. Singapores best defense is diplomacy, unless their population grows 10 times its current size in 3 years.

Just look at how much (budget) Singapore is spending on military as compare to its neighbors ... you'll know that the neighbors will think (twice .. trice ... maybe 30 times) before it decides that an open war with Singapore has no benefits for both sides at all ... Singapore is a small nation with a big military might + a totally big Zero natural resource country - what's the point of destroying it and taking it over ... lots of damages but not much economic benefits at the end~
Against its neighbour, Spore can’t. Spore don’t have enough weapon systems to defend itself though these weapons are great. Spore can’t fight a long drawn out war. Spore don’t have the big space for manoeuvring and sustain continuous bombardment. What about defending against large drone swarms? The city cannot support its citizens unlike in Ukraine after continuous bombardments. Spore will be cripple if there is a sea, land and air blockage.
Sounds like you have no idea what Singapore's military strength entails. Which of its neighbours do you reckon would trouble Singapore with continuous bombardment and "large drone swarms"? You assume that Singapore's neighbours are capable of blockading the island or that the Singapore military would sit idly by and let that happen.
@@aero.l no way Singapore can defend itself in a long drawn out war. Short term can. Have you seen Gaza now? How many artillery shells Russia had to fire at Ukraine daily? How many shells you have in Singapore? Singapore have advance weapons but not quantity and she doesn’t manufacture them. Many Singaporeans themselves believed Singapore is indefensible. Singapore don’t really have a strong navy. It can be blockaded. It’s a small place anywhere. Difficult to get replenishments in time of war as no merchant ship will sail there.Anyway this is my opinion.
Good luck trying to wage war with your neighbours while trying to defend your moms dads aunties in the HDB flats. So much to lose in the tiny red dot. Singapore has superior air and naval power by far and would make short work of its neighbours without even needing to deploy its land forces. And if they do, they have superior tanks like the Leopard 2As and precision artillery like HIMARS.
Perhaps the thinking has changed now. My time was that if the button is ever pressed, the assumption is that there is already no home to go back to since it will have been destroyed by the time we come back. The objective is to cause as much pain as possible such that the enemy will not want to touch whatever is left so that our home stands a better chance to rebuild from ashes.

China and USA have singapore's back
However, if China and America confront each other, Singapore would probably be at the frontline…
Singapore is too small, so there is no place to deploy troops.
So once the war starts, Singapore must deploy its troops to Malacca along the way.

Even if we were to fall, we will fall with our love ones knowing we have did everything possible and see our forefathers with pride.
Your capabilities say otherwise.
