Great content again Heinrich. I think the “Rule of Three” is particularly useful when briefing up. It is both deep enough to (hopefully) show that you have credibility, and brief enough that the senior officer attention span will (hopefully) not be easily broken. Obviously no one format of the rule is a “cookie cutter fit” for all scenarios, but I currently tend to favour the approach in the military of: 1. Situation - What it is 2. Recommendation - What we should do 3. Execution - How we could do it Great work!
Excellent communication hack, Heinrich. So simple, but addresses human need for structure and simplicity, especially for top-down thinkers which I find most of the executives I deal with are. Thanks for all the great coaching!

Thanks for sharing the videos, Heinrich. I like them for three reasons: 1. It helps me to see new perspective at work, 2. It teaches me many new tricks thats usually only consultant knew, and 3. I keep on learning new things. Thanks Heinrich; God bless you. 👍👍
3 points on this video. Firstly, great to use an example. Secondly, super applicable. Thirdly I generally love content on clear communication as its such high leverage.
I love this rule of 3. i use something similar in my formal writing. The conclusion, 3 points, repeat the conclusion. if I move away from that style (especially for executive summaries) then my communication rambles. Good tipt on how to manage my oral communication so I don't ramble. Thank You!
Can say that the rule of 3 came instinctively to my mind while improvising because of all the points already said in the video. Added to it I also thought that it was least time consuming, as the attention of a normal human being has become lesser than before. Love your videos, it has helped me improve my skill sets by a lot. Thank you so much!!
I think this rule of 3 is a very structured way in communicating our findings, backed by the supporting strong pointers to support our hypothesis. And to get to either ‘next step’ or ‘risk assessment’ is great way to enable the third pointer. I will try this and share my experience soon.
Interestingly, I once studied Zen Buddhism and my teacher spoke about how structuring with 3 points contains a completeness. An example is a haiku. Firstly starting with a verse, secondly broadening that verse. Thirdly a contrary verse, something more random, however connected.
Reinforces what I think of consultants: they are about trying to present themselves well, and worrying more about how they come across, rather than concerning themselves about whether they are offering any real valuable advice.
Thank you Heinrich for sharing this valuable content! I often get stuck on the 3rd point and your advice on replacing it with next steps/risks is a great way to overcome this :) Question: You started by saying 'My hypothesis is....'. In my experience, this can be perceived as theoretical (instead of practical) by some clients. Would you have any recommendation how to overcome this? Thanks
I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching! Of course there isn't a one size fits all approach for all clients and each client relationship must be treated uniquely!
Three reasons to use the "rule of 3": 1) Havving a structure that you can always use 2) Giving enough information but not too much 3) The other person will understand and remember better your answer
Hello Heinrich, just a small question on which I would like to have your opinion: according to you in the professional life should we give priority to money even if we must have lot of work hours or should we do a job that we like even if it implies to earn less?
I think that everyone should choose a career that they enjoy but finding the balance between compensation and work life balance is a personal decision and everyone must do what is best for them! :)
If this is a check-in comment from CEO, it would be important to end the answer with biggest open questions or remaining analysis which the team will be embarking on to prove / disprove the current hypothesis
Hello, thank you for the video; your content is really informative. I do, however, want to ask you a question that is not related to this video. I'm applying to study business management in consulting at Warwick business school. I wondered if you could name a theory you learned in graduate school that consultants use in their daily jobs.
Great to hear you enjoyed the video! I will think about doing a video on useful concepts learned at business school which can be applied to consulting :)
Thanks for watching! I believe if you have an understanding employer and you are able to express your communication difficulties then you would be able to find a job that suits you.

Hi, great interpretation of the rule of 3 with your structure - thanks for sharing :) Best, Heinrich
Thank you Heinrich. You made me passionate about consulting and provided great content. I have now an offer from BCG!
I am so glad that you enjoy the channel! Thank you for watching!

Very helpful content! I've watched several of your communication videos and feel more confident as a new consultant.
Your channel provides so much value to professionals - thank you!

Interesting reference. Definitely something magic about the number 3. Thanks for sharing Anton! :) Best, Heinrich
Nice! I'm using the rule of 3 for interviews for the first question to introduce myself
Hi Ludovic, yes agree, this rule is also very relevant for interviews! Best, Heinrich
It's true that in McKinsey the magic number always is three. You always plan out three scenarios, suggest three options, etc. 🙂
It certainly is an easy way to communicate your thinking but one cannot apply this as a blanket to every situation! Thanks for watching the video!
🔥🔥🔥
Third point; next steps, doubts/downsides
:) Great to hear you enjoyed the video
Great Hacks!! Thank you;)
Thank YOU for watching! :)
The rule of three is one of the first one I learned in my rhetoric courses, I think it goes back to the classics and ancient Greece.
excellent summary if this concept
Super happy to hear the video is helpful, thank you for watching!

Sorry to hear you made this experience. From my perspective, what you describe is rather typical politics you will find in any large company.
Hi Heinreich, great video as usual! I'll see if I can use this technique in my upcoming interviews at McKinsey and Bain.
Have a nice weekend!
Great to hear that you found it helpful! Good luck for your interviews!
Would love to see you start a podcast!
Good video, thanks.
Thanks Alistair!
great content!! Top down + Rule of 3 sounds like a great trick

Love his accent
Thanks for watching Christian!!

Great video, very informative and to the point. Can we use these when having a weekly 1on1 with your manager on project status?

Hello sir i have stammering problem does it affect my software engineering career 😭
Thanks for watching! I believe if you have an understanding employer and you are able to express your communication difficulties then you would be able to find a job that suits you.
The only risk is that your third point is weaker and people get bogged down in debating the third point, rather than absorbing the key message.
Yes agree! Definitely not worth it so say something super controversial as a "weak" third point :) Best, Heinrich
Destroy the like button 😂 i just did
Thanks! :)
Better organised
:) Thanks for watching
This is the issue with consultants.
Thanks for watching!
