The way Ghetts say "Richard"! Cracks me up to this day 😂😂 Bro this is some good work big up ya self for this, brought back bare memories. What a time to be alive!!!
He won't get the flowers he deserves until he's dead. It makes me sad. Good to see some people giving him the recognition he deserves though. Solid documentary. It's hard to summarise such a big career into a fifty minute documentary, but you did a damn good job. Like Scorcher said, when you really think about it, he's the GOAT, for Grime and everything that's come from it. Just imagine how different it would all be if Wiley died in freak accident in 1996 say.
Amazing docu, some great stuff to see again. Also when Grime was emerging, there was another term for the sound buzzing around, and that was ‘8 Bar’…..
It's that time again. I've got my headphones on a couple rolled enjoying the vybz. Your narrative is on point too. Big up yourself for the upload.💯😤🫡💥👏🏾👏🏾👊🏿
Tbh, i have and am still enjoying our evolution. If you know, you know. Yes, it's not how it was, but it's all about keeping it moving and respecting. We move people but dont not forget 100% real.
I get the argument but So Solid don’t even call themselves grime, they were garage. Granted they were a newer, darker, lyric oriented version of garage compared to the party stuff, but it was still garage. But it was them beats that massively influenced people to try new things which would eventually become what we consider grime today. When I first heard “Pulse X” in 2002 was when I first really noticed the shift. Around the same time Wiley was really pushing the Eskibeat stuff like Igloo and Ice Rink etc. Very exciting times.
Wileys sound is one part of what grime was back then. His sound wasn't 'the first grime'. Radio sets weren't just wiley tunes. MCs dud grime before during and after Wiley. Wiley was an important part of grime but so are a lot of other people. To make him the figurehead is dumb and pinning it on one person is part of why grime is in the mud right now
@@deadpresidentials Wiley was the best mc in the 1st biggest grime crew, he created the eski sound and he co signed the first grime mc to go mainstream. Jammer was a top producer, but not mc! Dizzee was top mc, good producer but not like eski! Out of the 3 it has to go to Wiley
Noone is even talking about DJ's like Slimzee who were the ones actually playing the tunes without caring about vocal tunes in the sets like other DJ's before.
@@tSt4RifY wiley wasn't better than dizzee. Roll deep on equal footing with NASTY. Wileys 'co-sign' (using dizzee for his own gain) didn't get Dizzee signed, Dizzees talent did. Wiley was a prolific producer, but quantity doesn't mean better quality than Dizzee
Grimes coming back for 2025 you can see the shift happening. Yea jammer dizzy slimzee helped shape the sound but Wiley gave it the push to go beyond what garage and jungle did

Honestly, I'd say So Solid - Oh No is the first grime instrumental.

Nah “Oh No” was still considered garage. So Solid, Ms Dynamite, Oxide & Neutrino, they all made the new garage sound, but it wasn’t quite grime yet.

Stormzy came through socials 😅. wileys free speech timing came at the wrong time of the beginning of the woke culture.
You forgot to mention Channel u as that's the 1st the place where we all saw the 1st grime videos before youtube was available
Boy Better know was Big H lyric which JME catted.
He ain't built it he helped put it on the map don't gass him up 😮
Only man there from day 1 till done tho wot you call it 🤘

Truth. Jammer & Dizzee deserve more props. Wiley is a pioneer but Eski is a specific type of grime.
