He won't get the flowers he deserves until he's dead. It makes me sad. Good to see some people giving him the recognition he deserves though. Solid documentary. It's hard to summarise such a big career into a fifty minute documentary, but you did a damn good job. Like Scorcher said, when you really think about it, he's the GOAT, for Grime and everything that's come from it. Just imagine how different it would all be if Wiley died in freak accident in 1996 say.
I agree. Where do you think the best place would be? I think somewhere on Roman Road. Maybe the middle of Roman Road Market or right next to where Rhythm Division used to be. This might be a bit of a stretch but it’s in the same borough, but I think Canary Wharf would be cool too
This documentary really filled in the blanks of the story of Grime for me. I'm from the US and have been following the scene since around 2000, DJ Finnesse UK introduced me to Garage that year, but most of the music I consumed I had no context for. I didn't even know what half the MCs looked like, thank goodness for RUclips. This video gave pieces of the history I badly needed.
The way Ghetts say "Richard"! Cracks me up to this day 😂😂 Bro this is some good work big up ya self for this, brought back bare memories. What a time to be alive!!!
Wiley used to release records every Friday. Had new lyrics every set. Nobody was as consistent as Wiley during the golden era. People won't talk on it because they couldn't keep up. Not only that... He would bounce around sets. If you searched the fm dial you'd catch wiley on another set after his own set. He'd feature on Deja, do a set on rinse... Hours later be on freeze... Graveyard shift on rinse with scratchy and Wildout
@@dogman1807 not saying they didn't have new lyrics but wiley had new lyrics every set. So if he's doing 4/5 sets a week it included new bars on every set. Doogz had maybe max two sets a week. Rinse and mystic with the odd appearance on Deja and a run on heat fm. D Double one set. Wiley was writing 32's minimum.
@@dogman1807 he was a tank. All them beats he used to create and release by the end of the week. Be on radio all week long, write and perform lol no wonder he never used to turn up to certain events. Any normal human would be gassed out. The workrate was crazy
Drake is a culture vulture... Wiley, Pusha and Kendrick have all called him out for this Drake may have many skeletons in his closet and I am sure he is backed by a seedy side of the music industry, that Kendrick has claimed he participates in
This is a really well made documentary so far (17 minutes in) very good work man! I was born early 90’s so directly grew up when grime was evolving from garage, such a wonderful time to be alive tbh.
I knew wiley as a kid he had family in Chatham he used to come in the holidays he was an ambitious kid last time I saw him was 1993 he already had his own sound and was playing and a new year's party in castle rd Chatham. he's been doing this for over 30s.
Growing up with Grime being an influential part of my early teens to my early twenties, this was a real trip down memory lane!! Nowadays I'm more towards my rock and heavy metal side, but occasionally i dip back into grime and have a reminisce. Good documentary thanks!
Some metal artist have dabbled with the grime format. Pengshui being one band. Another called ironed out..... check out there stuff.... also bob vylan. Grime has influenced every genre 8m the uk culture.
Wiley did so much for UK music as a whole. His tireless pushing and pushing of the scene and keeping the level and bar so high perpetuated so many to become stars in their own right. Everything Wiley said since came true, he has been terribly let down and stabbed in the back by the stars and the scene that he helped create. Thank you for your sharing your gift with so many 🙏
This video is well made with superb editing. Wiley is really from the streets that's why his music is so influential to this day and no one's been on his level in the last decade. He needs to start his own podcast or the people need to support it if he has one uncancel the legend
Amazing docu, some great stuff to see again. Also when Grime was emerging, there was another term for the sound buzzing around, and that was ‘8 Bar’…..
Tbh, i have and am still enjoying our evolution. If you know, you know. Yes, it's not how it was, but it's all about keeping it moving and respecting. We move people but dont not forget 100% real.
Wow Wiley did so much in the music industry I don't know Wiley was big like that he needs to get more for what he as done in the music industry and helping so much people
Bro, your style, choice of words & choreography is spot on. I recommend/could you do a documentary of Al Capone? Either on this channel or create a new one for that styled purpose. Get back to me bro, looking forward to your reply 👍
I personally as grown up with this era of music you mic wars are spot on with what Willy done in this time for the music we have experienced. A lot of people put him down and don’t get it wrong he was not perfect. But he didn’t want profit from who ever he clashes like u said there name wound be made main stream if they say Wiley in a diss. Love the video
if i ever bump into Wiley i'll just go for the handshake and say THANKS FOR GRIME. Shoutout to the Midlands as well Sox/Invasion alert, StayFresh, NODB, Derby artists like Eyez, SK, 38/Normanton Artists in the early 2010s

London needs a statue of Wiley. I’m not even joking.

This needs to happen.
Real talk. Sadly it will probably never happen now with all the cancel BS
Blue plaque at the very least

Wiley is the real legend....
Ey, these old clips always take me back to those times. Fun times. The culture was strong n vibrant.
Basically wiley put on half the grime industry
The way Ghetts say "Richard"! Cracks me up to this day 😂😂

Love him or hate him. Every famous grime MC has either worked with Wiley or clashed Wiley. Good video
Nobody hates him, unless you are WEF.
There are goats n there's herders.. wiley is the latter
I respect the achievements of Wiley and it should never be forgotten what he gave the UK. A voice.✊🏽☝🏽👊🏽🔥
Great documentary bro, done with great depth for real. Being part of the scene when it first started, defiantly made me nostalgic. Thank you
Wiley was right about Drake this whole time and no-one listened looool
NO DIDDY 😂

I love Wiley but I disagree Drake was showing love to the UK and even contributed to bringing Top Boy back
