    Excuse me but the BARRETT STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES and smaller Honors sections of the massive prerequisite classes and lifelong friends weren't even in the honorable mentions?!

    My daughter was just accepted to ASU and will apply to Barrett. Any Engineering students?

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  Год назад +1

      I would guess the majority of Barrett is probably engineering students! It’s a difficult combination from what I’ve heard

    what’s the application process like besides the additional essay? I’m applying this fall and I’d love to additionally apply to Barrett, but just curious as to what is required. Thanks! ASU is my dream school ❤️

    • @spottedsnake

      From what I remember you need 2 letters of rec, ACT or SAT scores, and already be admitted to the school! You can apply before you’re admitted but it’ll be evaluated after admission. GPA and test scores are mildly important (I had a 3.6 in high school and had an 1890/1310 on the SAT since mine was out of 2400). So actually a bit lower than average. But I was in marching band and president of our Model United Nations. So it’s all about have a well-rounded application! And the essay is what I’ve heard is most important. It sounds like a lot but I always say go for it :)

    Hi! My question- How much does the rating of your High school matter if you want to get into Barrette ASU? Also how many AP classes do I need to take if I am looking for scholarship at ASU?

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  2 года назад +1

      Hi! If you mean your personal record (GPA, etc) It depends a little, but if you have a good essay and extracurriculars, you can still get in. For reference - I had a 3.6 GPA in high school. If you mean an overall high school Grade A School rating, I don't believe it would matter. For AP classes, there's nothing saying you have to take them. A friend of mine didn't take any, he only took Dual Enrollment and still got into Barrett and received scholarships. ASU looks more at overall grades for their main tuition scholarship. Some are need-based, some are leadership based, and some are based on essays alone. There's tons you can apply to on ASU's scholarship portal.

    Hi do you know how the personal bedroom and personal shower room looks like? Also what things do you recommend to take to dorms? I'm planning to go to the tempe one on fall 2022 in the barrett honors.

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  3 года назад

      I’ve never seen the personal rooms unfortunately. From what I heard they are very limited and often not available. You can look up any list for what to bring! Don’t stress too much - if you forget something you can always buy it!

    Hello! I'm thinking about applying to Barrett and I'm wondering if you could give me any information on their environmental programs. Everything about the school seems perfect to me except for the fact that it seems the focus on environmental degrees is lacking compared to the other schools I am applying to (Duke, Berkeley, University of Oregon....) I hope that my observation is wrong!

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  3 года назад

      Hi! A good friend of mine is finishing sustainability and he loves the program. He says that his main point would be that it’s not overlooked, it’s just a growing industry especially in Arizona. ASU isn’t known for its environmental science program, but it’s great nonetheless because it’s what you do with it and there’s lots of avenues. Barrett is big on sustainability and has the sustainability dorms. They have a rooftop garden and have lots of events.
      The other schools may have a better program based on where they are (Oregon especially). But they’re definitely going to be more expensive compared to ASU, at least if you’re in-state in Arizona. Barrett also offers lots of scholarships, as does ASU.
      Hope that helps a little!!

    Is it good for Computer Science?

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  4 года назад +2

      It turns out between our group, we don't actually know anyone in computer science. But there are a lot (217 pages) of past thesis projects that have to do with it! So you could definitely get a good thesis with it, and the workload is doable with a lot of majors, you just have to be okay with it. They offer a good amount of honors sections for CSE courses, and a lot of Gen Eds do too. For the pandemic, any class run by Barrett offered a pass/fail opt-in.

    • @emmasease1068
      @emmasease1068 4 года назад +1

      I think Barrett is good for any major because they let you use honors contracts and sections to get credit for the courses in any major.

    what are the size of the business classes in Barrett?

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  3 года назад

      If you’re taking an Honors section of a class (I do not have friends in business so this is from a general standpoint across our old majors!) they tend to be smaller around 15-30 people! The entire class will usually be Barrett members, though I’ve had Honors sections that were 20 people, 5 of them Barrett. This happened because there were not enough Barrett people to fill the class so it opened to others, but it still counted for Honors credit!
      Barrett itself may have business centered courses taught my honors professors, but these will always count for only honors credit (not business credit) and will be up to the professors description when they are preparing their courses for the semester. So they may not always be available.

    Hey! What advices would you give to a good but struggling HS Student? I would like to apply but I’m super nervous and indecisive. I went to a charter school previously and my GPA was not good. Public school with a mix or AP and on-level has been perfect. I’m visiting Barrett’s in November to see how I feel but that’a not in time for early action. Do you think the honors college would be a positive experience for me?

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  2 года назад

      Hi! I think there’s definitely no harm in applying to Barrett! If you’re doing well in AP classes, I think you’d be fine. Human Event the first two semesters is a very tough class with lots of reading, analysis, and intense essays. It can knock people out of the program, but if you utilize your professors and TA’s, they’re always there to help you through it. I had Dr. Barca and she was fantastic.
      Overall, I think it depends on your major. If you’re doing a really intensive major that takes a lot of time, Barrett can be a lot of extra pressure. It can also really help you in the long run with graduate programs, etc, with the faculty. Only you know yourself best, but Barrett also won’t just let you struggle.

    what is premed at barrett like?

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  4 года назад +1

      Unfortunately I never had any friends in pre-Med! But Barrett tends to add a lot to your workload, so I would gauge how much you can handle. However I think the thesis project could be incredibly interesting to pursue!

    Is Barrett a good option for Social Sciences?

    • @spottedsnake
      @spottedsnake  3 года назад

      I had a couple of friends in PoliSci and Anthropology while I was there! Human Event, the required course, has a lot of good readings for Social Sciences depending on the professors choice of readings. Unfortunately you don’t know what they read ahead of time. I had Dr. Barca and loved her! Lots of honors professors are in social sciences and will teach very specific courses that could help you! I loved Dean Jacob’s course on Food and Human Evolution (the first section is all Anthro). You can really get some small class structure and specialized courses for social sciences to get honors credit!
