  • In this short film we meet Matthew Herbert, one of the UK’s most innovative musicians and a master at manipulating sounds.
We see him prepare for his latest live performance set-up where he incorporates sounds made by the audience directly into his music.

He tried this at worldwide festival 2015, was not impressed. A crowd just really eager for some music and he was fluffing around recording claps.
On the other hand, having just seen him at Gottwood, absolutely smashed it!

I made "music" with a chain & a garbage can, wok lids, frying pans with water in them, seed pods I found on the street...
Once I carried a cassette recorder while I played back earlier cassettes, like a 30 minute overdub loop

If there's one guy who's gotten lost in the technology; obsessed with HOW he records, but not with "what" & "why" he records it.. this is the man! So what if he is the first man to record a sea gull farting whilst hanging upside down a prison of vipers at sea with the longest boom stalk ever? So what!! Only people desperate for attention find something pointless enough to enter the Guinness book of records!! So you won't change the world.. ok.. that's not what music is about. However, you have to admire the man's singular vision! That's what makes a good artist I guess. ;)b

@RoadKillzine he tries everything and anything sometimes he hits sometimes he doesn't but no denying his talent, listen to "I hadn't known (i only heard)" or "Hoping (Herberts high dub)"

lol, herbert is a musical genius, if he did this for attention he'd have way more interviews and way more social media presence. like the above commenter said, listen to "i hadn't known," one of the best songs i've ever heard in my life, also all of his work as wishmountain is so good that i shake my head every time i hear it (radio, bottle, a machine drilling for oil),. he's played live with bjork ffs, music is subjective, yaknow? your taste in it just blows, sorry.
