    Your woodworking skills are "Mads", you did a great job on the companion way as well as all the other trim work, it looks incredible. Ava, what can I say, your spice rack project is spot on, that was absolutely a great way to protect all the spice bottles. You guys sure make a lovely couple! Until next week, Sea U! P.S. Happy Birthday Mads!

    Ava, here's a tip from Australia for getting to grips with metric measurements. In building construction here, we don't bother with centimetres, or that weird decimetres thingy that Europeans love to use, or even metres. We refer to ALL measurements in millimetres. Thus, the 5cm width you got wrong would be 50mm, a standard door would be 820mm wide, and 2 metres, 53cm would be 2530mm. Saves a whole lot of confusion!

    • @normanboyes4983
      @normanboyes4983 2 года назад

      If I am doing large measurements I often mix them deliberately - for example 6 foot and 10 mm. 🤣

    • @Garryck-1
      @Garryck-1 2 года назад +1

      @@--2442 I agree.. but when verbally communicating a measurement to another person, it eliminates any chance of mis-hearing the units being used. Love the bananas thing!

    Allow me to compliment you on the companionway doors....they look great. Through the years I've built numerous companionway doors for various sailboat designs including Island Packet, Pearson, Irwin, Hunter, Tartan and many others, using either teak or Starboard per the customer's request. If I may, allow me to make a suggestion-on the outside of the "last to close door" add another piece of trim to cover the exposed gap between the two doors when they're closed. That way there will be seals on both the inside and outside, providing additional weather proofing. What I've learned through the years is once companionway doors are installed, boatowners love them so much they leave them in all the time, forgetting about the washboards. I have doors on my Beneteau that I made from Starboard and they're only removed when racing.

    • @bryantarms
      @bryantarms 2 года назад

      Also, that trim piece will hide the gap. The gap will quickly become imperfect, so hiding it is good.

    Lovely job on the companionway doors, what a difference!
    Never really saw either of you two as having feet of clay, but hey, anyone can have an off day.
    Can’t beat a decent pair of wellies for taking on the UK in the winter months. My personal preference are MuckBoot “Chores” for a serious sole and really good insulation. They’re dead comfy and having warm, dry, feet has transformed my working day on the farm. Not the cheapest but far from the most expensive out there.
    Cheers from Cornwall, R.

    • @normanboyes4983
      @normanboyes4983 2 года назад

      Actually it was Chichester to Arundel and the aspiration of connecting to London never ever came to fruition. The Chichester canal actually had a short commercial life of only 25 years (1822-1847), it had a later brief resurrection for commercial traffic under the Corporation of Chichester 1898 - 1906.

    The Perspex on the companion way doors will need some tint, you'd be amazed how hot it will get being clear. Maybe some standard film will do the trick, I use a deep bronze color on my home windows and tried on a customer boat, it cut the surface temp of the port light (measured from the inside with an infrared thermometer) by 20 degrees.

    • @svbarryduckworth628
      @svbarryduckworth628 2 года назад

      I think that the windows could have been built into the doors as easily removable insets and with screens built into the outside. The screens would act as sun protection/tint and allow for ventilation when the windows were snapped out.
      I suppose Mads could make a framed screen that could slide right into the washboard slots for keeping the bugs out.
      When & if they ever make it to the USA they will encounter noseeums in Florida, the Bahamas, and much of the Caribean. Also biting flies and mosquitoes. Apparently they dont have bugs in Europe because few Euro-made boats come with screens.
      Without screening in the Americas a boat will be miserable being either too hot or infested every day with the irritating biting bugs. We close up every afternoon where we are in Florida about an hour or so before sunset and make sure all the screens on the boat are secure. It is too hot even in the winter most nights not to have screens -especially in the companionway for proper through-boat ventilation.
