He has a helmet so the Airbag Is unnecesary, and for stunts they are kinda dangerous.
@@juancitobentos6351 The point I'm making is that they claimed the car was unmodified, when it very cleary is modified.
@@8bits59 he means that the car overall is not modified in structure, but for this kind of stunt is mandatory to take out the airbags because the driver already has a helmet and if they deploy they can cause unnecesary damage to a human body, and i say unnecesary because they already have the helmet so the head wont hit the steering, but the airbag will cause the same damages as normally, like wounds, burns because of the gas, whiplash, damage in the muscles, etc etc. But overall the car is not modified, just with the Airbag system deactivated.
Juancito Bentos airbags aren’t just to stop the drivers head hitting the wheel, they slow down the overall deceleration that the driver experiences meaning less force is exerted onto their body, resulting in far less major injury

You might know but unless you don't, Fifth gear was made to complement top gear as it sailed away from informational reviews, as old top gear was. Tiff Nedell for example used to be on top gear.

I remember reading about yielding lampposts way back in the 1980s. The authors were impressed how car drivers might survive hitting one of those.
However, (same as in this vid) they ignored that the lamppost would work like a mighty steel whip possibly snapping at bystanders and killing some in the process. Not much was heard from that idea since.
But these sign posts seem to let drivers live without wreaking havoc among pedestrians, so: good job, deploy!
On controlled access and high speed roads these are probably a good idea. In an urban area where there are likely to be many pedestrians, if you can't survive hitting a sign post with your car, a pedestrian probably also couldn't survive being hit by your car at the same speed, and I think you'd be better off lowering vehicle speeds or improving pedestrian safety than worrying about the safety of drivers hitting road side obstacles.
Wonder if the rotation and flip would have been so severe had the car not been swerved hard to the left just before the impact? Would have been interesting to see it hit head on like in the second test.

The thing is,
1. When a car hit a lamppost or signpost, it usually is in a sideway position due to prior loss of control. That's why the Euro NCAP tests pole collision sideway.
2. I am sure the conventional signposts were already designed in such a way that they compromise the collision safety, wind resistance, and cost. I wonder how this would go according to those criteria. We cannot just think about collision safety without any consideration of cost.

William, you must have very good eyesight LOL, it's actually on the A45 about 9.5 miles from the M1. South of Earls Barton on the A45 westbound - I pass it several time a week as I live nearby.

Many if not all interstate signs here in the US use aluminum I-beams with slip footers. Slotted holes for the bolts that extend to the end of the connection plate and the base plate rather than regular closed holes in the steel plate. They're designed so that the sign pole "slips" off the base plate and they disconnect from each other.

edit: as an addition, street light poles are designed with a breakaway base and quick-disconnect terminals for the wiring so upon impact the base breaks away and the pole + wiring safely frees from the footer
The last moment's correction made the remote control car especially unbalanced. I think it wouldn't flip if the impact was in full overlap.

Unfortunately one of the least scientifically accurate measurements. One car had the weight of a robot, which pretty much loss control before hitting the post, and the other had the weight of a man, who kept the car straight into the post. These results have waaay too many differences to how they were conducted.
I don't think the first crash would be fatal. The car barely slows down at all, the crash energy is transferred into rotation. Car maintains speed, rotates, tires grip and it rolls. Seat belt on and you walk out like nothing happened.
Except the roof squashes when it rolls so fair chance if you're tall it's going to (at best) cause a major headache!

They need to make these post out of something that while yielding also has very little value at a dodgy scrap yard to avoid them becoming a night time target for thieves.

I like your vids, a lot,, but don''t run in to sign posts, trees, large rocks. It is actually very easy, to not run in to those things.
Wait untill you get a high speed blow out, or sudden catastrophic component failure on the suspension/ steering , or just dangerous driving from some other idiot on the roads ( I do hope this does not happen ! )
@@andy530i , I hope that doesn't happen either, again. I have had all of those things happen, blow outs, ball joint failue, and idiots on the road, ect. during the last 45 years. The occasional sign post is nothing, compared to the millions of trees, and I have managed to avoid all of them. Should we have the trees removed too? Cowardice seems to be the order of the day, these days.
Under normal conditions of course, but what if it's slippery and you slide of the road and hit it or you want to dodge something on the road or someone hits you🤔
@@axeljonsson151 , yes, unexpected things happen. But, I have survived driving (and riding motorcycles) past literally billions of roadside trees in the last 45+ years, I am all for safety, but lets not lose any sleep over some road side sign or lamp posts.

It's only pronounced differently in America as I'm aware. This is in the UK where cars are right hand drive and we have a different accent to USA.

That 2nd pole test was a COMPLETE FAILURE. He is lucky the middle bolt got stuck, if it were one of the two side bolts, the pole would go sideways, making the car jump sideways and everything will go sideways.
