      Thank you! Soil is a really interesting thing but still a bit of a working theory. But so far from my experience with a few species keeping it simple has been 100% successful with breeding.
      A few other keepers using specialty mixes with beautiful tanks have had no success and we're starting to think soil acidity and debris might play a role. "Craby" another regular commenter here has similar ideas as well.
      We'll figure it out sooner or later!

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  6 дней назад +1

      Honestly, I'd go 10 gals.
      5 works but you'll have absolutely no space for the next generation. In a 10 or 12 gallon you can at least have babies without the parents eating them all.

      @andyd834 5 дней назад +1

      @IndoorEcosystem thanks. A couple more quick questions. I know you have used a small usb pump. How has it lasted? When I look at them on Amazon there's tons of options. However when you start reading reviews they all have comments where people said they went out under 2 months. And what filter foam did you use when shielding the pump. Did you use the courser foam or the finer particle foam.

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  5 дней назад

      @@andyd834 If you're doing a ton of 10 gals don't bother with pumps and filters. They are a waste of time. I only add them because RUclips viewers loves them!
      But in reality they don't really serve a purpose in a VC tank. They just add more drama and maintenance. Keep it simple for the most relaxing experience!
      But to answer your question anyway I have bought 2 cheap amazon style pumps. One lasted 2 year the other 18 months and still going. It's a luck of the draw kinda thing.
      For the filter foam I used a medium density one but I'm not sure on the density grade.

    something i want to say about the population of crab tank is this, the real important thing about that is the numbers of male, if you put just 3male in 25L tank, i will say 1~2of them will end of dead. we should remember that male crabs are territorial, so you should think about thier territory 1st, that's why i say the minimum is 20cube for one pair, but you should at least give them a 30 cubes (60L) well if you goes to the limit, i could say you could have 6 crabs(2male 4female) at 30 cubes, but it's really risky, cus it only works when each male has chose the opposing coners as there territory

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  6 месяцев назад

      Male get really rough in tight spaces alright! Especially when they have no where to run and be safe!

    What would be the best way to add a filter to this build if you wanted one?

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  5 месяцев назад

      If you can find a small enough one you can stick it on either end. But it's hard to find something that works in a shallow small space like this. You don't need one though they don't improve anything.
      Though, if you are making a similar set-up in a bigger tank, say 10+ you can put a filter at either end of the water section easily enough. But again still not required. I've got build videos for bigger tanks where I use a pump.

    Is it possible to include shrimp in a tank like this? I feel like the amount of water space would be far too small, but I'd only intend them as a food source for the crabs, if they can catch them, and not permanent members of the ecosystem. Thoughts?

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  4 месяца назад +1

      Way too small to be honest. Vampire crabs are pretty useless at catching shrimp too. They'll pick off sick ones but healthy ones have a 99.9% successful evade rate. I have a few tanks with double the water volume that shrimp hitch hiked into that keep breeding though. It's not a lot of water either really but they seem to be doing well.

    Also would a pair of female crabs work?

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  6 месяцев назад

      A pair of females works from my experience. I've not had any issues. Even 3 of them.
      If you get pregnant ones though you might get a lot of males down the track.
      But that's not a common occurrence or one you'd be too worried about.
      Babies grow quite slow so you could easily make another home for them.

    I Still Love how my 6 vampire crabs in (45x45x60) idk how many gallons. All the same species Geosesarma hagen with a fuck tone of hiding spots to the point i didn't see them for weeks and enough food to make an elepahant obese nearly all killed eachother and the ones that are left is one Traumitzed female, one male with last time checked only one claw, and the one i am suspecting to be damn crab h*tler as he's the only one to be so fine. And yes i know that they all died from fights as no one died with all limbs. Lovely animals 🥰

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem  6 месяцев назад +1

      That sucks a lot! But that is a really, really good example of how random some males can be sometimes! I have had a lot of fairly peaceful tanks set up without much fighting but I have had one where one crab was just an absolute nutcase! There's certainly an element of luck involved with this! Hopefully that female drops some babies for you to make up for all the chaos!

      @@IndoorEcosystem I hope so too kind of as i do not.really see the female living long enough for that too happen nor do i see the babies living well trough this or i'll have to put the male away from the tank as i have only one what makes it all even worse for me, as i put all my hopes in them and now i dont have space for new ones, or anyhting else i was Thing to put geckos or frogs in there too but i am unsure if they would again Just Hurt eachother again

      Bigger is always better but it is how you design their habit that makes all the difference. I highly suggest you check out the other 100 videos on my channel and get back to me :)
      If you want to help this cause though, you can jump on some of the horrendous selling practices coming out of South East Asia. I have a video on it somewhere here.
      The community here is about making them the best possible homes possible because they will not be leaving the hobby ever.
