- The Manchester light-welterweight has not looked the same since being stopped inside 10 rounds by Mayweather, subsequently beating Juan Lazcano and Paulie Malignaggi before the crushing loss to Pacquiao.
And Mayweather believes Hatton has a much bigger role to play outside the ring - that of grooming young fighters to become future champions in his new guise as a promoter. Saying:
"My advice to Ricky Hatton is that his career is over, I think he should have stopped fighting after our fight," "He worked his whole life to get to that point, and he came up short.
"It's hard to keep gaining a lot of weight, losing a lot weight, to stay at that level, the wear and and tear on your body, so the best thing for Ricky Hatton I think is to try and go out and get all the young champions in the UK and get them under Hatton Promotions, and build your company to the best of your ability.
"Boxing is a brutal sport, it's like being a cop - one shot and it ends your whole career.
"I don't think Ricky should fight again. I wouldn't fight him again, even at Wembley. It would be like picking on a guy that we call 'gun-shot, gun-shot'.
"Once you've been knocked out in the way he was by me, it's always in the back of your mind that it can happen again. His head won't be the same."
He was right. Hatton was never the same fighter after Floyd knocked him out. He should have retired with 1 loss, not 3.
Galero15 yep. He was right.
Galero15 Exactly. Nevertheless he’s still a good fighter.
Pauli has more losses then KO’s in his career
pacquio knockout Hatton in just 2 rounds
Galero15 more money and he did win more
This video was posted 12 years ago. He’s saying the same things today. “Legacy can’t buy your kids food”. 💐💪🏾
the most technically gifted fighter in history for me.

agreed 100%.... Mayweather can do everything well..... no weaknesses and extremely smart
I think so too
he's a chicken runner coward tho
@TIGERWOODSBOYFRIEND he’s speaking facts , you embarrassed yourself
People who say Mayweather is running away.. Floyd called Pac-Man out in January. but he ran away..
Thats bullshit,go do your research, and go read what Freddie Roach said how mayweather ran away from manny. go read it before you post bullshit.
The most skilled boxer ive ever witnessed
He's a legend.
Happy man.
Intelligent both in and out the ring.
A role model for all black brothers.
Intelligent out of the ring? Hmmmm
Yh!apart from Sugar ray Leonard he's just another gifted boxer in and out the ring.
He's interviews are great.
lol your opinion of his intelligence brings questions of your own
Being illiterate is something to admire and emulate? Great boxer no doubt, but blacks can find better role models than athletes, because 99 percent won't be good enough to have an athletic career
Godwin Mathew can't be a role model for non-blacks? Oh :(
A very gifted boxer. absolutely schooled canelo who is one of my favourite fighters
The fight was fixed.
@@johnwalhan7076 LOL. Excuses excuses excuses
@@johnwalhan7076 lol
@@johnwalhan7076 that's absolutely hilarious thanks for the laugh g
@@johnwalhan7076 fixed ??? Wtf are you smoking
When I think about it, I remember what Ali said: "I had to convince myself I was the greatest before I could convince the world."
Mayweather is telling hatton to quit and get money by raising the next Hatton.
He looks so young here compared to now
I thought the same thing. like 6 years can make a difference
Its the beard
+razor flipp mustache
He gotta shave the beard lol he would still somewhat look like this
@Franky Salazar Uh, It DOES NOT 😆
This guy is truly a Genius God Bless him
“Our job is like being a cop one shot can end your career” barz
Mayweather knocked it on the head there about rickys weight, you cant live in pubs and chip shops and be a professional athlete, that was always his problem
Lil Floyd with the billion dollar smile lol
Man that united kingdom track jacket is tuff!
"former victim" LOL Love the title of the video
Well put my brother 👏 🙌...People gonna talk no matter if u doing good or bad they gonna find something negative to say...
I really don't understand why people come on here and hate like why watch it if you don't like him that's so wierd
Cause they ain't have nothing better to do in their sorry ass lives.
true man
Because in order to disagree with or even rubbish what someone is saying, you have to hear exactly what is being said first.
@@amazed66 loser, go away
True. ..
pacquaio never agreed to random blood testing ever. It's always either testing after the fight or within a certain time frames. The whole point of the test is that it is random to stop people cheating.
And there's a video of Freddie Roach saying he wanted to know what Alex Ariza put in pacquiao shakes
you can see why he loves the uk. people actually treat him with respect and just give him the chance to relax and feel like the true champion that he is. every interview he does in the states is like a police interrogation. yet they treat every other boxer like a hero, especially pacman. i really dont understand why the US hate him for being a show off when they promote that kind of behavior on tv and in hollywood all the time.

You can do the same with the * character for bold and the - character for strikethrough
John Bell thanks bro ;)
_that's bullshit_
absolutely. Floyd Mayweather is a supreme technical boxer, truly an all-time great. Most of his fights, he looks like he's got plenty in reserve too, he barely gets out of second gear.
I can see why a lot of boxing fans don't like him - and he does box a little too defensively in my opinion - but there's no doubting his technical skills.
HE KEPT IT REAL
Floyd is very articulate. I judged him harshly at first. In certain respects I still think he could handle certain situations with a little more class, but overall I think he's a savvy business man, phenomenal boxer (I dare anyone to deny that) and smart man. I respect him and feel he's right in most cases about boxing.
Hes alot more respectful when hes in England ive noticed, hes seems happier too.
UK fans like Mayweather more than American fans.
@@AlwaysDazedbecause they know hes the best so why knock him for it. smart fans
I love it when Floyd shows this side of him...this is the real Floyd in my eyes...you don't become P4P #1 fighter overnight...he's got the brains and skills to back it up...let's make Pacquiao vs Mayweather happen!
Floyd was on point in this interview... No Pritty Boy , Flamboyant Floyd, or Money Maywheather... just Good old Floyd
Great interview! Thanks for positing it.
lol true. He looks older but now but he's still in fantastic shape and his punches are just as fast and sharp as they were when he was 21. He may be an asshole but his greatness cannot be denied.
He has the stats to back up the talk. Thats how i look at it
great fighter im british and i love the fact he is wearing our flag.best pound for pound fighter well he has all the belts and never been beat i believe he is.
This is exactly what happened to Floyd and anybody who fought Oscar DLH. Everything, down to the gloves were chosen by Oscar, because he was the big money fight that everybody wanted at the time, hence his "Goldenboy" nickname. When Floyd beat him, he became the one to call the shots. You didn't hear people calling Oscar a twat for doing what Floyd does now.
Mayweather's a true champion who respects the sport of boxing. He gave Hatton the best advice of his career.
End this debate here,...Mayweather outclassed Marquez...was basically a shut out meanwhile Pacquiao was KO'd by Marquez..lol...this ends here...Mayweather is untouchable.
Pacquiao is scared of Foyd
revise ur sentence bro
Nope, I say it how it is. Just like you guys do with Floyd. Ygm
Foyd?
Foyd Meywedder?
Can't believe it's been 11 years since I watched this interview.
13 now lol
@@jamarmoore9548🤦♂️
I thought Floyd was pretty respectful here, contrary to his usual antics. He didnt really disrepect Hatton, he just gave an honest opinion an was gracious about it.
You must be one of those who blindly follow the anti-Mayweather rhetoric. Mayweather's 'antics' are purposely done leading up to his fights.
Yeah your right about Hatton not being in Mayweathers league but the referee was a disgrace.Hatton was not dedicated enough at this stage of his career inbetween fights he was ridiculously out of shape i mean he was a premier 140lbs fighter yet he walked around weighing over 200+lbs! he abused his body badly & everybody in 'the know' had warned his lifestyle would catch up with him.
Your all so deluded on here. I'm a massive hatton fan but he was not a smart fighter. He'll even tell u that himself. Mayweather is one of the greatest ever. He agreed to fight PAC man as long as he did a steroid test under Olympic ruling which paquio refused. No one will ever beat this man in any weight class
Mayweather is very beatable. If I ever got the chance, I would prove this theory.
But I doubt I ever will. But if you're reading this Money, let's get it on!!
what*
@James Souza lmaooo he was in a deep sleep when he wrote that shit
Being British I respect him a bit more for wearing that jacket ;)
Yes Ricky is a true champion, but now he has to be smart. he's got a little lad and none of his real fans would want to see him knockout like he was against Pacquiao again. It was brutal...Ricky got lucky and if he continues i see a resemblance between him and Ali...Ali didn't care about being hurt permanently he just wanted to please the fans...Ricky's got to realise he has pleased the fans and he can out of the ring,
I give him the right to what he said. ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. He earned the RIGHT to earn his money.
he was like that up to gatti fight, then they made him the villain. so he said fuck it, ill be the villain! lol
Until Floyd adapted and shut Judah out.. The Pac i saw against Bradley has NO chance. He wasnt that accurate against Bradley. Mayweathers defence in comparison to Tim, there isnt a comparison.
lol at the captions, "what copyright" covering the sky sports logo rofl "zool sports" haha nice one mate.
I have nothing but respect for floyd mayweather he keeps it real everytime.
Hatton should never have fought TBE. Hatton was never a welter weight and floyd gives good advice to quit!!!
This is the most humble mayweather i've ever seen
I dont' think he's scared of Pacquio - but his ego is telling him he has to get more money.
May was starting to catch him before a mass change in speed for Judah, It wasnt completely one sided in the early rounds either apart from the 10-8 round it should of been for Judah. Im pretty confident in my predictions, i dont think Pacquiao stands much of a chance, thats just me.
You were correct! Pacquiao was not at Floyd’s level.
Power is one thing but skills are another.
"i don't fight for bragging rights, i fight for checks..." LOL
how many of us think of feeding our grandchildren at age 35 and below?
i like the way mayweather explained that numero a uno, means number 1
Flyod is a class act we must give him that credit , It be nice to see hatton v flyod 2 thumbs up *
De La Hoya fought at 160 against Sturm and Hopkins, Mayweather fought Oscar and Baldomir big men.
Mayweather - a superficial, shallow, egotistical inarticulate man. And a brilliant boxer who was spot on about Hatton at the end of the interview.
You a random brokie on RUclips with an irrelevant opinion who's most certainly either white or Mexican. You pathetic races need to quit trying to disrespect our fighters. This man is a legend in our community. Fuck off to hell with your bullshit
Pretty good Floyd interview, I felt. Definitely one of the better ones I've seen.
Mayweather said nobody hit him as hard as Hatton!! The Hitman also kept coming!! Yeah he won but Floyd respects Hatton!!
Lies Cotto was his toughest fight
@I'm wrong because, He did say "I see why they call him The Hitman". However, you're right.
The center of his face looks like an angel
When God decided to create a perfect boxer, He created Floyd Mayweather!!
Back when mayweather actually answered the question from his own mind and not the same script he recites now. Truly gifted boxer.
Give us some of those words from that script you mention. Give us a famous quote, please.
I like Ricky Hatton a good fighter who came from a humble back round and common man struggles.
Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate that you have your own opinion.
floyd always kept and keeps it real
hes one of the best ever fighters and business men
Hatton isn't a smart boxer
Crazy how his face changes every single time Pac keeps brought up
dude pacman agreed to the testing... but Mayweather didn't agree to the money that wasn't given to him.
Hatton the most hyped fighter since Pac lmao
Ricky Hatton was WBA, IBF, IBO light-welterweight champ, as well as the
WBA welterweight title, you dummy. He didn't need any hype. There's no shame in losing to Floyd Mayweather, everyone loses to Floyd Mayweather.
+Klate Wilson let him know lol Hahhaa dude got his name a Terence Crawford talk about hype
KHALI SUAVE wtf are you even typing about, make sense
+Klate Wilson He was overhyped imo. I don't think he really should've been in the same ring with Floyd in the first place but he gave us a GREAT fight. Who has Hatton fought? I don't mean that literally, it's just that he hadn't really fought the level of fighters Floyd and Manny have beaten
Isaiah Thomas You don't need any hype when you're WBA, IBF, IBO light-welterweight champ and WBA welterweight champ, get a clue.
"boxing is brutal sport...its like being a cop...one shot could end your career" NICE
His boxing skills are perhaps only matched by Pacman right now, but to say he is intelligent is an insult to intelligent people!
He's a boxer not a politician he shouldn't have to feed nobody other than his kids
That's right! Good to see somebody who knows what they're talking about instead of copying what the rest of the haters are saying.
yes and hes also FACED both of them... at the end of the day PURE boxing, especially from the greatest of defense, beats messy brawling any day
Floyd is a smart buisness man...and a great fighter!!!🔥🔥🔥💯✨
He fought two fights at a catch weight - Oscar and Cotto. Oscar is the one who called Manny and offered him the fight at 145. That was Oscars idea. Now Floyd fought Cotto after Manny pummeled him, but that didn't count. Sure, Hatton lost to Floyd THREE FIGHTS prior to Manny fighting him, Hatton did not take a beating in that fight. Yet when Manny annihilated Hatton, Hatton was now tainted. It's an inconsistent arguement. It's also irrelevent.
He is a defensive genius, it may not be fun to watch.. but its an art.
Showe what fight wasn't fun to watch? All of his fights on this platform has millions of views. You're parroting the haters because you don't have a brain.
I thought Cotto did a good job going up and down through eight, but it took a lot out of him to do it, and after eight he started running out of gas. Castillo too did a good job working down and up. Definitely given his defense a body attack has to be included as a heavy part of any strategy to beat Floyd. It's what works against Pacquio, as his body attack isn't one of his strong suits anymore.
You ever box? Work rate combined with power equals pressure. Manny applies a dangerous level of pressure.
Please could you tell me where I could find the rest of this interview??? Thanks
Mayweather schooled Hatton? i think you"ll find Joe cortez schooled Hatton, never letting him fight inside. he was a very poor ref...
You don't know that. Judah straffed him with straight lefts early in their fight, and his straight left isn't half of what Pacquios is. Anyone who knows this sport knows that ther are limits to predicting fights and lots of fights don't go the way people anticipate they will. You can not say "he won't be able to". You can only say "I don't think he'll be able to". There are no exceptions to this rule.
“Mexicos ‘numero uno’…. Which is their number 1 fighter..” 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😭
Mayweather is a great man. Great boxer.
Margarito in his prime was a cheat. His wins are void in my opinion.
No I'm not. I hope it doesn't happen, but too many boxers can't replicate that buzz outside of the ring, and do self destructive things while trying. Mayweathers actions suggest that he will be another to join that list. Please explain how I'm wrong.
Floyd makes it look so EASY, you forget just how BRUTAL the sport IS!
Its very difficult to predict because there are alot of great boxers and up and coming. Maybe the one to watch is the one thats not in the spotlight but training religiously in the gym for his shot at the championships. I just hope our sport can be a fraction of what it used to be like before.
but after the fight he said he would love to see him fight again? lol
No he is actually born in Grand Rapids, Michigan!
mayweather was looking a real technican against hatton
I don't think Hatton was strong enough to do that to Mayweather. I don't think it had anything to do with the ref. Hatton was able to use that tactic when he fought at 140, but at 147 I don't think he had the strength to impose himself on floyd physically. Floyd is not a strong welterweight, but stronger than Hatton who never campaigned there. And Floyd was in superior shape to Hatton for that fight. Hatton's lifestyle habits were catching up to him at that point in his career.
watching this you can tell he's not a dickhead like he comes across before fights but its just to promote the fight and he is good at promoting fights
Manny fought Hatton at Junior Welterweight, where Hatton was at his best. Floyd fought Hatton at 147lbs, and Ricky was always too small for that weight class.
lol @ the copyright bit, i love the americans when they come to the uk, they allways have to get the flagged clothes when they come here
oscar was screaming am the best in the world and fighting homeless people
God, back in the 60's everyone showed respect, now it's all about winning and who's a better boxer. Show some sportsman ship.
Wtf you talking about
"what do you miss about boxing"
moneyyyyyyyyyyyyy
No, I didn't do any equations. Gambling a couple million a week, losing say half on average. You think he has enough to do that, keep up his lifestyle, and have any left in 20 years? Or even 10 for that matter?
