Very informative video, I want to leave this comment because I don't see a lot of people talking about this Run-saving trick. If you turn at a corner early you will see sparks on the turn you made, this not only makes you turn quicker but if there is a ghost on the other side of the corner you will pass the ghost and a special noise will play. This is very useful if you find yourself cornered by ghosts at a corner. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this also works for red Jammer Pac-Men
Also, to clarify; the "pass through" thing isn't specifically related to drifting. It's actually the manifestation of a well-known glitch in the original arcade game, in which if you and a ghost pass through one another with frame-perfect timing, the game actually doesn't register a collision. It might happen more often with drifting, though, due to the slightly different way Pac-Man moves in relation to the ghosts.

Great video! I started playing this game a few days ago. My main strategy is to use the Speed and Knockout options. Usually for the first few rounds, I make my way around the board trying to clear it to improve my speed as well as just waste time. In the later rounds, I try to stay in the power pellet state as much as possible. I find this strategy works for me most of the time, but sometimes I need to improvise. One thing that I find super helpful in this game is the circle that tells you when your power pellet is going to run out. I often find myself checking to see how much time I have left. Awesome video!

Thanks for the video. I didn't know clearing the board gave a boost to speed. Since there was no points, I didn't go for board clearage. I only pondered the styles on the sides. I came for the red Pac-man, or more specifically how to send them. i learned so much more.
I never knew about the badges protecting you from Jammer Pac-Man. I thought it was just to show you how many were coming your way like the Tetris 99 garbage line on the left side. Thanks for the info!

i have a question, my main issue i have is that there are rounds where early on i get back to back to back hoards of white jammers, is there a way to fight this, am i having too many people target me and what is a way to counter that?
Fun Fact: the AI for the ghosts are not the same from the original, the reason I know this is because they’ve pulled a 180 and me at least 5 times, they couldn’t do this in the original
They alternate between "chase" and "scatter mode (scatter mode is when. They go to their respective corners, chase is when their AI actually kicks in) They switch directions when they switch modes
@@Glossyhin It's pretty much the same. The 180 that you're talking about is just them switching modes. In Pac-Man 99, the only difference is that they turn corners on the frame that they reach the intersection, not ahead of time. (most likely a change due to the maximum speed of the ghosts being too fast for it to track ahead of time.)
Sometimes during a match, Flashing arrows will pop up in the middle of the screen that point up and down. Any idea what those do, and what triggers them? I have not been able to figure it out.
I was wondering this too! I am not sure, but I was thinking Its possible they are associated with the game speeding up, or maybe when the jammer pac-man go from stationary to moving, or when red ones can start appearing, but I couldn't find a definite relationship to anything definitive either...
@@NateTheGreatDeluxe In the original game, there are 4 intersections, (the two above where Pac-Man spawns, and the two located above the ghost house) where ghosts are not allowed to travel up through. They can follow you down through those intersections from the top portion of the tunnel, but not from the bottom. Since the ghosts and jammer Pac-Men can't go up through those areas, you can use them to escape a close call! The ghosts are forced to pass the intersection and take the long way around. In Pac-Man 99, the arrow icons indicate that the ghosts (And jammer Pac-Men) can now use those tunnels. When the icon shows up a second time, it means they can no longer travel up through those areas anymore.
Do you have to activate a style strategy before eating a power pellet or can you turn it on after? For instance, can you turn Stronger on just before eating a ghost train and then switch back to standard as soon as you’re done?
Eating a power pellet triggers the mode that you selected. It will not change until you have eaten another power pellet, with a different mode selected.
The one issue I have with this game is how it largely comes down to luck in the end, primarily in terms of how many players end up targeting you at once and how many shield badges you get from KOs. The one win I've had so far was the result of a one-two punch of good luck in that I was mostly left alone throughout most of the match, and I ended up getting nearly 3 full badges out of my first two elims. More often, I find myself with half a dozen KOs and barely a full badge to show for them, and then towards the end game I find myself with suddenly half the lobby ganging up on me and sending me wave after wave of dozens of Jammers so quickly that I can't reasonably defend myself against them. I can think of a fairly reasonable fix for each problem: 1. Increase the badge points awarded for unshielded KOs from 1/4 of a badge to 1/2. It's so much harder to score elims in this game than in Tetris 99 due to how the mechanics work and how much faster the game plays out (it can take several minutes for a T99 match to hit Top 50, whereas in a typical PM99 match you typically reach that point within a minute or two), so while 6 elims in T99 isn't all that high all things considered, in PM99 it's a pretty considerable amount. Yet with those six KOs you can find yourself with a paltry 1 and a half badges to show for it if you had the unfortunate luck of all of those being against unshielded targets. Doubling the shield award would change this to a full 3 shields - a much more fitting reward for racking up a KO count that high. 2. Change the attack mechanics to work more along the lines of how Tetris 99 works. Basically, if you eat ghosts while you have Jammers queued up in your bottom bar to be spawned, it starts by clearing out Jammers up to the badge line (if it exists), and then starts sending Jammers to your opponents once your queue is empty. This would give skilled players a reasonable chance to defend themselves against sudden swarms of incoming Jammers, especially if multiple opponents decide to gang up on you at once. As it currently works, you're basically helpless in such scenarios, especially in the late game when it's extremely possible to clear out a freshly spawned wave with a Power Pellet, only to have a new wave spawn in immediately afterwards, faster than you can possibly reach the next pellet to clear out the second wave. Cue getting overrun and basically stun-locked to death, followed closely by a thrown controller.

Try watching some breakdowns on the AI! The ghost pathfinding algorithms can help you learn how they operate in 99 as well. There are also a few intersections and extra tips/tricks that let you escape them in the original, that also apply in 99.

Before you eat the pellet, because every time it resets to the active mode

It's best to at minimum have a feel for how the ghosts' respective A.I operate.
