.🎊Remember to comment below 'Why You Want to Visit Hualien?' Best answer will win a specially curated goodie bag from me! Good luck! Contest ends 31 Aug 2024. I will reply to the winner’s comment on 1 Sep 😀
This video was filmed before the earthquake in April 2024. While Hualien City is mostly back to normal business, Taroko Gorge was severely damaged and is currently partially opened (as of Aug 2024).

When I first visited taiwan, taipei in 2020, before the lockdown happened, i fell in love with the place and till this day, I still regretted not being able to visit places like Hualien and the more chill areas instead I went to tourist attractions like Jiu-fen and Shi-Fen. Although an amazing experience, I almost got trapped in taiwan if I did not board my plane in time, because when I landed back in SG, the next day taiwan announced a lockdown, so wheeeee...

I really want to visit Hualien to experience somewhere so absolutely gorgeous and so different from where I live, Scotland.
I’ll be turning 40 next year and I really do want to see more of the world, see different cultures and really immerse myself. I want to push my boundaries and try new foods. The foods you ate in Hualien looked incredible and so healthy however I have to draw a line at eating a Goose or any animals head!
I’m amazed how clean and fresh everything and everywhere looked. It’s very inviting.

For a moment I thought Taroko Gorge had been restored to its original state😅 but read further in your comment that this was filmed before the earthquake…….And so, here’s what went thru my mind initially that you were doing this video to promote Hualian and make this lovely destination worth visiting again. 😊. We all heard and experience Eva Air and Taiwan’s hospitality and it’s really so heartwarming for you to show how you experience it too. We will always love Taiwan as it’s like a 2nd home for our family and a place we chill catching up with their street foods, warmth friendship and all the amazing mother nature has to offer🥰

The sound of crashing waves, turquoise lake, cloud-lined mountains and misty weather simply refreshes the soul. Yes, we all need to be in the bosom of beautiful nature from time to time to ground us and remind us life is more than houses and cars. I freaking love Taiwan Ghib! Fresh out of university earlier in April this year, and I backpacked Taiwan's West Coast (ie Taipei to Kaohsiung) for 2 weeks as part of my first solo grad trip in May :) Truly love the food, and in love with the people like you said - can't explain the many times locals brought me around to proudly show their attractions and culture, and hospitality to make you feel like home.
Why Hualien for me? My grad trip was originally planned to backpack across the whole of Taiwan, but the earthquake unfortunately derailed my plans for Hualien and Yilan. Taroko Gorge looks extremely majestic as a popular nature attraction, and its a place I unfortunately had to cancel my tour for...but really hope to go there to enjoy the peace of nature and people who probably have many lived experiences of the force of nature ❤

I have been to Hualien twice. Once when I was younger, less affluent and a solo traveller. My second time, me and my partner brought my elderly (still spritely) mom. Both experiences were vastly different. Sights and tastes when you are a young solo traveller morphs into a more sublime experience when you are travelling with your loved ones. Taiwan has that scalability which appeals to the young as well as the old. The warmth of the people, the easiness, the welcoming spirit makes it a really special country. As you have rightly pointed out, it is an excellent place to take respite, recharge, and soak in the awe of nature. Unplug from the matrix.

Been to Taiwan many times but never the East Coast. Your Hualien video inspires me to bring my elderly parents there, especially knowing that Taroko Gorge is walking friendly even for wheelchairs 😊 Great content!

Omg I watched this on my TV and I came on my phone to see if this was filmed before or after the earthquake. I am going to Taiwan in Sept and I want to visit Hualien because it looks SO BEAUTIFUL and scenic, especially Taroko Gorge!
I was going to change my itinerary because of your video and plus I thought this is after the earthquake 🥲 I still would love to visit Hualien one day for its stunning scenery and amazing food ❤

I've been a few times to taiwan a few times but never to hualien. Your video has made me want to visit Hualien now. I would want to visit Hualien, Taiwan to experience its stunning natural beauty, including Taroko Gorge and the picturesque coastline. I’m also eager to immerse myself in the local culture, enjoy delicious Taiwanese cuisine, and explore the unique blend of traditional and modern attractions. Hualien offers a serene escape with vibrant cultural experiences, making it the perfect destination for both relaxation and adventure

WOW I remember you talking about wanting to do this during the covid lockdown skits -- to learn Chinese to go live in Taiwan. I'm so happy you're doing this!! Taiwan east coast is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Looking forward to your other videos!!

I actually started watching your videos last week when I was in Singapore. (The internet knows where you are!!!!)
I was born in Taiwan but grew up and live in Thailand. I went back to Taroko Gorge in Taiwan in November 2023 to run my very first full marathon. It was my first time visiting there and I am really glad I get to experience the magnificent masterpiece of the nature’s doing running through the gorge. The earthquake in April left lots of damage behind such beautiful place and it was quite painful when I learned about it on the news.
Hualien is a beautiful place, the people there were so nice to me and my family. Taroko Gorge and Hualien will always have a special place in my memory. Hualien have a tough journey ahead with their road to recovery. And I sincerely wish they will come through with the strength of their beautiful hearts. The least I can do to contribute to their recovery journey is to go back there and experience its beauty and hospitality whenever I get the opportunity again.

Hi Ghib! Loved the hualien trip y'all embarked on! I remember seeing the hotel but unfortunately didn't get to stay there since I only spent a day there... Brings back good memories. Taroko Gorge is indeed a magnificent place to visit as well! Glad u seemed to have fun during the trip and you've potentially gotten me into wanting to visit there again soon 😁.

So inspired by you to also go to Hualien to take a break like that given 15 years of working none stop. Can fully relate why you would do this.

I was there in tw during the april earthquake! was traveling up north from tainan and wasn't feeling very well so i reworked the itinerary to go straight back to taipei, skipping hualien. the next day the earthquakes happened. if i had gone ahead with plans I would have been caught at ground zero, it was a pretty close shave and you could still feel it pretty strongly even in the city center.
would definitely still try to make a stop at hualien on my next trip!

I was in Hualien 3 weeks ago, but I didn't read about the tarako park closure. They advised me not to go yet since plenty are still under restoration and some roads are partially closed (with timings). I still enjoyed myself, such a beautiful place, I would like to go back there when the weather is cooler tho and explore more! It was about 37-39°C (and the apps would say it feels like 46°C and above) Beautiful place, wonderful people, delicious food!
