I am considering this bike or the Specialized Turbo Levo, which costs a little less. I don’t think the Specialized has the Bosch motor, which seems like a good selling point for the Trek. Do you have any experience with the Specialized or any pros/cons vs the Trek?
I looked at all of them and I really like this Bosch motor because its the same motor in the top end Trek bike. All the other components can be replaced over time, but not the motor.
I am getting close to buying this bike but I am having difficulty justifying the cost at almost $4k when I can buy a small displacement dirt bike for around the same amount. I know that you can’t ride a dirt bike on mtn bike trails, but it just seems like you get so much more with a small motorcycle. Any thoughts on pros/ cons of the two? Thanks.
Incase you didn’t know you can get the bike deristrricted with something called a speedbox. I think it’s the speedbox 3.0 you need if you have the Bosch cx motor
@@CarolinaCowboys thank you for your insight! While your here, is there also a big difference between 2020, 2021 and 2022? What trek bike do you recommend for the value 😊?
@@ABoxIsMyHome if you can get a 2020 model or newer in new condition then I would definitely get it. Stay tuned for my next Trek video to drop Saturday morning!
I ride a 2015 Specialized Stumpjumper 29er with full suspension and started looking at E MTB's. It dawned on me that I only ride with the rear in lockout mode. I don't even like when the rear is bobbing around. The Powerfly sounds like it might be a good option for me.
Wow.. I have '92 GT RTS-2, looking at the Trek Powerfly 4 too. Thank you for your review. Any other comments on that Bosch motor? Weird noises or characteristics?
It's been solid! The same motor in their ultra high end bikes. I kinda want to put a booster in there so I can go over 20mph but I don't want to void the warranty.
Thanks for the honest review. I am in a similar position to what you were, looking at some options but the Trek stands out for me. I will hopefully get the Powerfly 5 but the 4 could be an option. I would prefer to get the 625kwh if I can! Are you able to upgrade the seat to a dropper post? Look forward to some more videos in future
FYI the Powerfly 5 has been discontinued in 2021, Trek is pushing the Powerfly 4 as their low end eMTB. This was also why I went with the 4, I don't want anything that parts are going to be hard to come by later on. Ya you could do a dropper post, the only application I could see using it is for extreme downhill. I was able to slide off to the rear just fine. I'll do another video soon with some of the stuff I've done/learned. Thanks for your interest!
@@CarolinaCowboys that's interesting. I do see some bike shops near me still selling the Powerfly 5. I may even look further at a Rail 5, at least I get full sus then too if I wish to do some downhills 👍🏻
@@R0BBS Ya they're likely selling their 2020 inventory. Take a look at the Powerfly FS4 if you want the full suspension. The Rail is nicer but more than double the price.
Great insight to the Trek powerfly 4. Is this model a 500wh or 625wh capacity battery ? I'm Interested to know type of real world mileage your getting? Also I've not been on a bike for a while... What's the gearing like for commuting ? Id be Commuting via road on week days but wanna take off road exploring on weekends :) P.s looking forward to future ebike content and more pros and cons !!
Thanks for the comments, I put a link to the bike in the description. It has the 500WH battery with the Bosch CX motor, I just charged it up for the first time since buying it after riding almost 50 miles and still had 2 bars left. That was mostly ECO mode and 6 miles of MTB mode. More than adequate! I'll do another video soon with things I've learned from it.
I mostly ride on tour mode and it’s adequate to handle just about every situation. Of course there’s times when you find yourself in turbo mode climbing steep hills. I do a lot of commuting And I’ll ride 50 miles on tour mode and will still have just under half a battery or 2 bars left. My only con is the the drive train, I have 200 miles in the first two weeks of purchase and the the Deore shifts extremely hard. Doesn’t effect performance, no slipping, just really hard and annoying shifts. The brakes are ok and for the price point You have the best motor in (my opinion) on a bike even compared to a ebike that’s around 13 grand. The motors are same across the low end e bikes and high end.
I just ordered a powerfly 4 gen 4 just waiting for it to arrive. I’m very excited to get out more often and to ride farther than I ever did before.
That's awesome, you'll love it!
I upgraded the Tektro brakes on my e-bike to Deore M6120 4-piston brakes and the difference is incredible. 100% recommend.
Did you have to replace the brake hoses?
@@CarolinaCowboys yes but it’s easy to do. I just followed the instructions from this video ruclips.net/video/dbmy_7LOySk/видео.html

Nice!
Hi, I found a second hand Trek Powerfly 5 2018 for 1,990 USD is that a good price?
I wouldn't buy it, they made so many improvements in the 2020 model
@@CarolinaCowboys oh hmmmmm seriously? So is it better to go with the 4 instead of 5 but just a later version?
@@ABoxIsMyHome yes with the biggest being the Bosch CX motor!

You said on downhill you are still limited to 20mph. Can't you kill the motor and continue pedaling to increase speed downhill?
Yes but then you're pedaling an additional 52lbs
How do you like it some months later? I'm considering getting the same bike.
Hi, I just posted a video on that - ruclips.net/video/9U7w9CodhDc/видео.html
Awesome looking bike! I’m ready for an e bike.
So far I'm glad I bought it.
I have a Powerfly 4 and i take it into Peak district National park. I love it and its great off road on gnarly trails !!!
Have you upgraded anything yet?
Many improvements in the 2024 model. And actually cheaper as well. Never put a kickstand if you are serious about riding mountain bike trails.
Yeah I never ended up getting one, I just lean it up
my friend has an e bike and you cant hear a motor at all
That's interesting
Think yourself lucky here in the UK it's limited to 15.5 mph
I'm thinking of putting on one of those devices that removes the limits
cool
thx
Low price, high quality
I agree!
26 inch wheels look so funny .
I had to ride my 26" backup bike yesterday and it was very odd, almost hard to control I was not used to it anymore.
