Joe Fletcher and Sonia Denoncourt - On-Field Session

  • Former FIFA Referee Sonia Denoncourt and Assistant Referee Joe Fletcher led an on-field session at the 2019 Ontario Soccer Summit promoting the use of teamwork. The pair went through a set of three different drills to test referees' sharpness of mind under pressure and fitness.

    I'm going to definitely steal these activities for my future clinics. I love the stressed points, like the whistle tone(foul coming out versus a PK) or the hand to call a PK, explaining why. I would also throw a curve ball, like telling the center privately to ignore the drop, so the AR has to bring the center's attention up. The run at the end is fun, but can be dangerous without a proper warm up.

    They were so worried at the drill in the beginning about making the wrong call - that they whiffed on the whistle which was the easiest

    Hey Fletch! Why don't you put the cones in a circle instead of a square, that way they don't have to keep stopping and turning. Looking good though! 😄
