    The first time I used Tidal in my living room it was like hearing music for the first time in years without ear plugs. The mids and highs are so much better than Spotify, Pandora, and RUclips.

      I know, right? I was really surprised how the quality differered from Spotify and RUclips. Especially when comparing videos. Although, I should mention that I have a rather nice speaker setup at home...

    • @AlKidd
      @AlKidd 3 года назад

      @@fredriklundquist4276 Yes. One might try the premium Tidal service IF (s)he already was moved some time ago to buy a really good set of stereo speakers (e.g., Polk) and good headphones (e.g., Stax). But if some folks even then still cannot hear the superiority in Tidal's MASTER series of hi-res. songs, then they should know that they already wasted some of their money some time ago on audiophile gear. They should stop wasting any more of their money on trying to own very good music quality; they simply are not to the manner born. They simply ought not to subscribe to the extra $10.00 premium service. It's not for everyone. Problem for them solved.

  • @rybob7

    Finally, a video that explains Tidal the right way. Well done. Complex News' video was terrible at explaining the service like other RUclips channels. There is no way for the average consumer to tell the difference even with $250 headphones. You're talking about at least a $600 setup.

      rybob7 Well, it depends. If you use bluetooth, there will be extra compression at a bluetooth channel side AFAIK. And one thing certain about lossy compression is that if you compress something with losses, uncompress it, and then again compress with losses - you will seriously damage the quality.

    • @johancarloolsson
      @johancarloolsson 9 лет назад +9

      rybob7 As long as you're not using a portable device, your 200-300$ headphones (as long as it has a range around 5-30000Hz) you'll tell a track in FLAC and 320kbps apart any day. Not trying to defend Tidal, as I use Spotify premium every day, I'm just not agreeing with what you're saying.

    • @JosePablo24
      @JosePablo24 9 лет назад +1

      oh yeah, now everyone can tell the difference, on ANY track , yeah

    • @clydesmithmaaaaaaaan
      @clydesmithmaaaaaaaan 9 лет назад +6

      rybob7 it's not that simple... I can tell the difference on gear that's not even that great, but its really much more of a feel rather than a sound. The main thing people don't understand is that an mp3 takes inaudible frequencies and removes them from the file format. The human ear is not suppose to be able to hear what the mp3 takes away no matter how expensive your gear is. Your dog on the other hand would have no trouble hearing the difference...

    Sorry but Tidal is not for the poor. Sorry you guys hear it that way, but someone has to say it. If you don't pay for your music, stick to Spotify and your shitty headphones. It's ok. TIDAL is for people that love music. I myself, don't have TIDAL; not because it's expensive but because I don't need it.
    I LOVE the idea of Tidal and I do believe is the future. I love how they have a lot of artists involved and each giving exclusive content to the customers. The media and the community of people that use spotify hate it because they don't have money to pay for it. If they did, they probably would try TIDAL and stick to it. In reality it is not a bad service, but it has a lot of misconceptions already and people hate it because other people hate it and it is the cool thing to do Just like it is the cool think to hate Iggy Azalea without knowing her.
    Smarter people will understand you don't need to talk shit about TIDAL because you hate it. There is no certain reason to hate tidal as much as people on the internet are showing. If you don't want to pay for their service, don't. If you do, do.

      +Farid Audee I love music but hell I wouldn't pay 20 bucks for a service they're providing that other competitors are also serving for a cheaper price. Don't get me wrong, I believe in supporting artists and their music and if I really like their work I'd just buy their records. So if you're asking me to pay 20 bucks just to support an artist I'd just rather use that money and get a new record of that artist. Maybe tidal is giving a neat service to people who actually want it, but like you said it's not for everybody. So the minority who don't need to use it won't, and most likely wouldn't like it, considering there are other companies that are providing a similar service at a cheaper price point.

    we should defiantly be pushing to listen to the highest quality music, there is no reason in this day and age why we would still think an mp3 is an acceptable audio format... I study this alot and it's not as simple as "some peoples ears are different so some will notice the difference and some won't", Everyone has ears that are basically the same shape and designed to work best at certain frequencies. Basically, when listening to an mp3 certain frequencies get cut out of the song and although most of the time these are very minimal and like you said can only really be noticed on good speakers/headphones, our brains are still making corrective adjustments on a subconscious level to 'make up' for the loss of frequencies (so in our heads we think we are still hearing the same sounds) Hence why it's so hard to tell the difference in qualities. This matters because it's alot more enduring for our brains to process lower quality sounds than it would be if you were sitting in an acoustically treated room listening to a high quality wav/flac.......(we get worn out / tired quicker when listening to mp3's or through crap speakers)
    We don't make 4k videos then compress them back to 360p, why do it with our music!?!?

      Yeah until everybody on Earth gets gigabit LTE speeds and unlimited data, streaming at 320kbps is our only option. Also, Spotify streams in OGG Vorbis, Apple Music does in AAC, etc. No mainstream music platform uses MP3.
      And, finally, lossy audio formats only cut away parts humans can't hear (< 20 Hz & > 2000 Hz).

Tidal isnt revolutionary it's literally the same thing as spotify if you want something to take over and be revolutionary you have to make available to the mass population and I doubt that every person in the world wants to spend $10 a month, at least the other music streaming websites have free options. It was a good concept but definitely not as "revolutionary" as they market it to be.

    Mashable reviewer downplays a key ingredient of this service I believe.
    In the 1970's a large segment of the listening public spent thousands of dollars and much time, on their stereo equipment - the industry destroyed that arm of the business. Tidal's CD quality option will succeed I believe, and at the same time will rebirth production of great listening and viewing equipment (multi-media W3 connected devices) --- because people want great media quality of their favourite artists, period. It's part of the action that creates identity, connection to the artist's brand.

MP3 works well overall, and it is just fine for most people's needs. However there are many specific sounds MP3 does a horrible job at reproducing, and that is when the difference between it and FLAC becomes obvious. MP3 will distort and butcher those specific sounds while FLAC will not, the FLAC will sound exactly like what was heard in the studio when they recorded it.

    I love how they say "a Lux audio setup " but do not quantify what that is... So... IMHO... and it is ONLY an opinion. ( I have listened to Tidal on iphone 15 max, computer with decent speakers with sound DAC, wireless earbuds ( apple and JVC), bluetooth ( JBL Charge 5 and Sony) speaker and HiFi...)) If you are listening thru a phone speaker, wireless or wired earbuds, a bluetooth wireless speaker, computer speakers (Not Audio Speakers or Monitors) and I, personally would add any USB or Mini stereo headphones under 150.00...... dont go for the extra, it will be wasted. However. If you have a home stereo or AVR that has Tidal built-in or a high quality streaming DAC or the like go for it! It is crazy good!
    I'm running Tidal thru only a 3.1 with an Onkyo RZ50, Klipsch RP 6000II frnt, right and an RP 505CII center with a SPL120 Sub, thru Dirac Live.... I think this is a "Moderate level... LUX". I can tell you... That ripping a CD at high bit rate lossless vs Tidal FLAC ( or FLAC in general) on the same song and album is audibly quite noticeable! Especially when you are pushing the volume. The Volume at buzzing/tickling the eardrums, is undistorted and clear!! The volume below 20db is crystal clear as well! It's a whole other level of listening! That said... Take some time and select your genera's and artists upfront! The app really is smart and chooses "Similar" references that are quite nice! Now... If everything you need to know...... just attempted to instruct how to use it better..... LOL!

    It sucks : too expensive and there are way better services out there !

    • @nextlifeonearth
      @nextlifeonearth 9 лет назад +16

      HebboFan It's not for you. The same can be said about an iPhone, XBox, fancy car etc.
      The video is better at representing Tidal. What you probably mean is YOU think it sucks because YOU can't afford it and YOU think there are no benefits with Tidal compared to cheaper services. And that is fine, I can't afford it either. Can't even afford Spotify.
      But if I were to choose a service I would choose Tidal over Spotify any day since it's better to my obscure artists and has lossless audio.

    • @nextlifeonearth
      @nextlifeonearth 8 лет назад

      ***** I like to support the bands I listen to, I don't guess that's included in that service?
      And no, I bloody hate physical media so don't make me buy CDs.
      If all were just on Bandcamp...

    • @carterwilliams1259
      @carterwilliams1259 8 лет назад

      +CapnTates do you know what Kat.ph is?

    • @nextlifeonearth
      @nextlifeonearth 8 лет назад

      ***** A torrent website? That's quite well known. I was saying I like to support the artists I listen to, which kat frankly doesn't.
      I hate to get physical media, so I don't like buying CDs either. So I either need a proper service(not sure whether Tidal is it) or a way to get the music(I own quite some albums on Bandcamp. But very few of the bands I listen to are on there)

    According to this video, Tidal does not offer some sort of DSD steaming. All it's doing is taking 'CD Quality Sound' and rebranding that as HD audio. Why do I need uncompressed CDs steamed to me for $20 a month? I refuse to pay a premium until these are true HD audio tracks.
    This also helps to answer the ubiquitous Tidal track comparison test question.. what rez are we talking about here for what they deem standard vs HD? So far it looks like we're talking about uncompressed CD quality vs 320 kb MP3 samples. Why not just use the free iTunes Radio then, which sounds like they're streaming ACC from CD tracks? That's what I use on my AppleTV today. ACC is what I already rip every CD I own into iTunes with, for the fact that on my main system, I can't hear a difference between it as the the original CD track.
    CDs have never, and will never, be HD quality audio. Get yourself a good Oppo BluRay player, and pick up 'Dark Side of the moon' on SACD. Once you hear that SACD and others in multi-channel, you'll see why some out-of-print discs can go for hundreds of dollars.

      You get millions of songs that you can pick up and listen to at any time and these streaming services have to pay licencing fees for a lot of these songs and music.

    • @CrissaKentavr
      @CrissaKentavr 7 лет назад

      ACN EtzGamer ...And I can turn on the radio for far less of a licensing fee. The idea that the licensing fee must be superhuge is stupid. I can only listen to so much music, and the artists aren't seeing it.

      Crissa Kentavr , the HiFi premium subscription is for those that have high end audio equipment and can afford it.
      Even the regular $9.99 version still provides higher bit rate music(hence better sound quality). Go to Stereophile.com to see the kind of equipment in which you would be able to perceive the sound difference. Most people don’t have high end systems and won’t benefit from the premium subscription.

    Its failing because it actually doesn't deliver to artists. Payouts through distributers are not regular, it seems to be non existent for underground also, and theres no options for artist to look at stats or update bios etc. I like tidal, but it needs work and honestly comes across as an elitists-only beneficial platform that has no issues faking numbers

    Tidal is a service for greedy needy artists to get more money. Seriously they need stop whining. Before streaming, you would buy a CD, a shirt, a concert ticket, then it's over. With streaming, artists are being paid per play. The more I listen, the more money

    • @8363MTR
      @8363MTR 9 лет назад +5

      ***** But the overall question is how much is Tidal going to pay out to the artist? Are they going to stick to their plan and give the artists more money than Spotify, or will they be keeping this as a hush hush until someone actually figures out how much is Tidal actually paying out?

    • @bishbash111gb
      @bishbash111gb 9 лет назад

      ***** Spotify gives out 70 percent of earnings to record labels, who then in turn take a cut and give the rest of the money to the artsists. Are you referring to how much is given to the artists themselves, or the labels?

    Yikes, leave your opinion out of it. I have decent gear, amp and headphones for about 350, and I've been astonished at the difference between FLAC and AAC (for example). While I can agree that not everyone will want to care to notice the audio differences, please keep your recommendation to yourself. It's really out if place and quite off-putting.

    This whole tidal shit is just so badly done and marketed. Why would i want tidal when there are already established services out there? the fact that its marketed more to artists than consumers is a big mistake. You create an app that benefits the artists but the consumers pay more for a service that they can get for free or cheaper. Its so dumb.

      kotal kahn I have hi fi setup at home, and instead of buying 25 million songs on CDs I could pay 20$ a month (which is like maybe 1 + 1/3 CDs). Why wouldn't I do that? Explain to me why that would be a bad idea.

      Shad are you jay z? LOL. Its proven that you really need high end to hear a small difference. So thats 20 bucks a month for songs that you can get for free off youtube, spotify and other free apps. Tidal sucks dickand the only people who buy it are insanely dumb ones

    • @Yupieln
      @Yupieln 9 лет назад +1

      kotal kahn Dude, I don't give a fuck what you think. As I said you can't really hear the difference between spotify extreme and hifi *if you don't concentrate* on it. If I would be walking around outside with headphones on ofc I wouldn't need tidal, hell I don't fucking need tial at home. But it's nice to have. When laying around at home I actually conecntrate on the music I'm hearing. I would notice the diffrence, but ffs it doesn't bother me that much that I have to go around commenting on every video that is tidal related why I think it's shit.
