    I had Posterior hip replacement 14!days ago. I had to use leg lift to get in bed for a number of days. Now I’m able to swing leg over into bed. I have been sleeping on my back. Also put a pillow slightly under leg that had surgery. I woke up one night on my side how I normally sleep before surgery. Ortho told me sleep on my back. Next day I felt a lot of pain. Then four days later my surgery left is swollen from knee down. Foot really swelled. I called and told go to ER might be blood clot. Everything turned out good. Doctor told me too active. I told him about Tuesday on side when I woke up. Have been in pain since and not very active. I also stopped taking two pain pills prior to waking up on side. Had to take them again. Also doctor said three weeks with cane. Orthopedics told me no three months with walker. I used walker for four days then went to using a cane.

    I had a hip replacement because I fell, being a stroke survivor , I was listening to the therapist of the caution shown by you but, over a year later of doing bridging and lying on my affected side while sleeping. I could do half squats and bend affected leg to wear my my sock and shoe putting it up on my other leg. Guess, the above action had help me put the ball and socket joint back to its proper place

    Actually, excellent presentation of important procedures. My joint dislocated itself at the six week post op time. Set me back, but finally got hooked up with an excellent PT / Rehab group. The hospital support is lousy, very unprofessional, very slow emergency response (held me for twelve hours before attempting a failed reduction. Awful experience with that hospital during reduction procedures. Really unbelievable practices. The accreditation process should really take a hard look at them.

    Hi, friend..! Are these precautions going to be for life or only until the surrounding tissues of the hip heal?

    • @SKILLSANDWELLNESS
      @SKILLSANDWELLNESS  Год назад +2

      Only when you are still healing. The doctor would clear your precautions during your follow up and will determine the next steps. But it is not for lifetime.

    I'm a paraplegic and I had a hip replacement on my left side 3 weeks ago. My hip dislocated twice and ended up having another surgery to add a cup to help. It's very hard for me to transfer in my wheelchair and keep that leg straight and not rub my bottom on my tires. There are no videos out here for a independent paraplegic like myself to give us the best way to handle a new hip replacement. Being that I can't feel, it was 3 weeks before I even knew I had a fractured hip. My PT didn't give any helpful instructions. She just told me to continue to do my daily duties and not use this as an excuse just lay in the bed. I did get your normal basic instructions like not cross your leg, sleep with an pillow between your legs and not let your toes point inward. But obviously I was doing something wrong because my hip came out twice and now I'm hoping to God it won't happen again. At least the PT I had after the second surgery gave me some helpful advice but I'm not still 100% sure if I'm doing everything correctly. Also, my wheelchair has my leg up higher than a 90° angle so there's that

      I think you are doing it right as if now. But it will take weeks of observing your hip precautions and therapy. Even athletes take time to heal. Dont feel bad. You are in your way to getting better

    Can you side sleep on the operative leg? Example my operative leg is right leg, can i side sleep to the right side? And one more what should you do if my hip dislocated?

    • @Tamedevil
      @Tamedevil 10 месяцев назад

      Yes, but you need to put a big pillow or cushion between your knees to prevent stress on the new hip components. I waited five weeks until I tried this.
