After buying afternoon delight and it literally making me gag, it’s refreshing to see a review that doesn’t claim it smells like “a cozy French bakery” with an affiliate link. I know fragrance is personal but this one gave me trust issues 😅
I completely agree about Afternoon Delight… going to keep it and set it aside for a few weeks to see if that cookie note becomes more forthcoming. I’m hoping that’s the case here like other fragrances I’ve sprayed out and let it sit. Moving forward I won’t be blind buying tho 😂 these marketing schemes won’t be catching me again 🙄 I will say I layered it with Dulce by Rosie Jane and it balanced that milky note from Afternoon Delight
I'm so with you on getting caught up in the marketing!! 😅 I wish I lived in an area with more variety to shop for fragrances because if I want to try anything that isn't mainstream fragrance, I basically have to do a blind buy or hope there's a sample option. Now the wind howls in my empty wallet...
I blind bought Afternoon Delight and was severely disappointed. I love the Replica line and it smelled like a mix of play doh, pencil shavings, and vanilla to me. 😂 Edit: heavy cream was also disappointing to me, it 100% dried down to swiffer for me lol
I was absolutely going to blind buy afternoon delight, so THANK YOU for saving me the money 😭❤ I strongly prefer lactonic literal gourmands so while afternoon delight sounds like a hard no, I will definitely be picking up phlur heavy cream. thanks for sharing your thoughts 🫶

Whaaaaat?! I love Afternoon delight. To me it is the best fragrance of the year. I literally cannot get enough of it. Fragrances are definitely very individual things obviously.
Afternoon Delight is incredible. I’m very happy with it and glad I got the big bottle. Carousel was ok and I’m happy with the travel size. Heavy cream smelled like spoiled milk and I returned it. And Cherry baby is foul, and somehow it smelled worse when I tried to scrub it off. 🤮
I loved afternoon delight! It has a very soft, mild scent and my husband (who is verrrry picky about fragrances) even said he loved it. Just goes to show how subjective fragrances are to each individual. 😊
I like it a lot, but don't love it. I get virtually no sweetness or vanilla. I get a warm, bready, unsweetened milk scent. I think it will be good to layer with sweet vanilla scents like Vanilla Skin, Vanilla 28, or Heavy Cream. I don't think I will get much out of it alone.
Afternoon Delight...OMG YESSSSS!! I thought it was a weird chemical smell to this. Trying to like it, but not really feeling it. I have the one oz thank goodness.
I get so excited when I see Lauren posts !! you are so in depth I love your approach - it’s super fun yet almost systematic lol. you have a spin that no one else has!!
Y’all are giving me hope. I ordered it from the actual site not Sephora cause they gave me a 20% off coupon 😂 I was very scared, but ya girls are giving me hope 🤞🏻😂♥️
I still have to use Afternoon Delight a bit more but my initial impression was positive ❤, but I’m a girl who also loves Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Milk. Neither smells stinky to me. 😊
Lauren if you haven’t, get your nose on the new milk body spray for B&BW!! I got in on a whim cuz I had a free product- it’s HEAVENLY!!! I hear you saying it’s lactonic when I use it. It’s like sweetened milk & oat something it’s so good especially to wear around the house or layer.
afternoon delight seems like a rare miss from margiela! NO ONE seems to be happy with it! not necessarily dislike, just seeing a lot of "not what i expected..." i won't be surprised if it's discontinued by this time next year.
As always, blind buying is the root of all the disappointment and its so apparent in the case of Afternoon Delight. Blind buying is a thrill while things are in transit, but the hype and fomo are crazy at this point. Whenever I feel I'm getting too wrapped up in all that, its time to take a step back. Personally, I don't mind Afternoon Delight, but I'm not shocked that some people didn't enjoy it. That's the nature of fragrance...and anything else. Fragrance in particular is so individual and the freak outs over this launch are cringy. The mass hysteria over this fragrance not being perfect for everyone (and the answer to everyone's vanilla prayers) is silly...but also telling. Fragrance is always so subjective. For those saying, "thank you for reviewing, I'm not getting it!"...that's cool, save your coins, but why not maybe sample it? Smell it? Try it on the skin? Are people only experiencing fragrances endorsed by their fav influencers rather than actually smelling them? If you were ready to spend the money, why not still experience the fragrance? No fragrance is going to be everybody's cup of tea. I love reading about fragrance, watching reviews and being introduced to scents by influencers and genuine fragrance lovers, but I think it's time to step away and experience launches in the real world. I think I'd rather come upon scents by actually browsing. That way you end up with a curated collection and not hundreds of gross dusty bottles. This launch was really eye opening as a consumer. Between the fake and/or incentivized Sephora reviews, to the ridiculous amount of people ranting about this launch...its a hot mess. I'd rather see someone talk about a fragrance they happened upon on, a fragrance that they find special, than to see everyone review the same damn thing over and over. Lately, even when we're shown fragrances people absolutely love, they're on to the next literally a day later. Everything becomes less special and now we're just buying just to buy. I don't even mean Lauren...I get it, its her job. For most people, though, its not. Eh...some food for thought.
I was so disappointed in Afternoon Delight. It was kind of odd and screechy in the opening on me and very light, like nose to skin light. Not what I was expecting.
Afternoon Delight is so disappointing. Almost everyone I have seen trying it ks returning it, including myself. I wonder how fooling us with marketing benefits the brand? It seems like a bad way to sell a product
Afternoon delight is less cozy than I wanted, but I still like it! I like a powdery scent occasionally. Heavy cream is DELICIOUS. Wow. It’s amazing bc Phlur has mostly disappointed me 😂😂😂 I like heavy cream and vanilla skin even though vanilla skin is SMOKE CITY on me sometimes.
I had such high hopes for Heavy Cream, but the coconut overtakes everything else, then it dries down with a faint whif of vomit on me. WHY. So naturally I had gotten the big one... Caramel Skin is absolutely delicious though.
I almost pulled the trigger for afternoon delight and so dang glad I didnt! I have to be in the right head space to wear vanilla milk by ellis Brooklyn and i have to layer it with certain scents like bbw whipped coconut milkshake. And even then if it's one of those days, it can kinda smell like spit up and turn my stomach lol So glad i saw ur review before blind buying it! 😂
I was honestly a little surprised how many people were getting sucked in by the Afternoon Delight marketing. Replica has some great scents, but even with the marketing I would have been pretty surprised if it had been a super sweet, bakery gourmand. Aren't most of their scents pretty unisex? (Not that guys can't wear sweet scents, but those aren't typically called unisex.) I'm glad I trusted my gut on Afternoon Delight and passed on it. I'm sorry for the people who felt kind of swindled by the marketing. 😢
I work in the fragrance industry so I'm surrounded by all the brands, so I'm patient when it comes to new launches. I refuse to blind-buy online; I wait till I can try it in store.(exception is if it's not available in stores/ never ever) but that really hasn't happened. 😂 I'll check out the Phlur in store. So far, I like the Mango Mood and the Coconut skin. ❤
I also bought Afternoon Delight & Carousel. Afternoon Delight was not at all what I expected and I do see what everyone is saying, but for some reason I’m drawn to it and it takes on an almost custard scent on my skin. I’m curious to see how it would pair with By the Fireplace. I’m not sure about Carasoul yet. I think my expectations were too high.
Afternoon Delight smells AWFUL to me/on my skin 😭 It smells like spoiled cream/milk or something. I really dislike it and I'm SO disappointed by it. Definitely not a safe blind buy!!
I've been buying samples, and 5-10 ml decants. I'll buy a full bottle if I love or still love it after the decant is gone. My last blind buy was Zenobia, which I absolutely hate. I also ordered Blond Redhead, and I hope I love it, because there weren't any samples or decants available. Thanks for the video! :-)
Afternoon delight to me was not delightful. I smelt vanilla the first few seconds, like cooking vanilla then it immediately turned to a terrible caramel. I scrubbed it off and it went back. Brown girl Jane always smells good initially but they all seem to have a dry down that has baby powder that’s so off putting
I don't bother with these "Sephora exclusive" niche brands anymore. I would love to know more about them...have they been around for a while or are they incubated by LVMH? E.g. Clean Reserve, Ellis Brooklyn, Jo Malone, Nest, Snif, Phlur, MM, Commodity, 7 Virtues, etc.

Me too but I chose the opposite 🥴🥴🥴 I’m glad I got the travel size but even that was $40 after tax. I’m thinking of returning it because I will never wear it
I thought Afternoon Delight was very sweet--too sweet, in my opinion. Almost cloying. I'm glad i only bought the travel size. I did buy the Anna Sui Cosmic Sky on your recommendation and love it!
Hands down the best dessert scent I've ever tried is Eat Me from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. It smells like the most delicious toasty vanilla cake with currant jam. I'd love to see you try some gourmands from indie perfume oil brands like BPAL.
This is the only review that seems to be smelling something like what I smell. Unsweetened milk. It's also bready to my nose. Not sweet at all. I'm not getting powder or spit up though. I like it. I think it will only be good to layer it with sweet vanilla scents like Vanilla 28, Vanilla Skin, or Heavy Cream to add more warmth to.
Listen, I was SO underwhelmed by Afternoon Delight. It’s ok but it smells nothing like I was hoping. I just get a lot of the sandalwood and and an alcoholic extract type of scent from it. Heavy Cream on the other hand I was very pleased with and the combo of the two was pretty nice. Heavy Crean puts me in mind of Whipped Coconut Milkshake from B&BW, so sweet and creamy. I only purchased a travel size of AD and I probably won’t be blind buying again, at least not until I see some reviews from people I can trust cuz the hype and the marketing got me out here looking like 😵💫😵💫
Kinda glad they aren't amazing. I'm kinda broke at the moment so I don't feel like I'm missing out after hearing this. When I'm caught up I might go try to smell at the local Sephora before their semi annual sale.
Hi Lauren, unrelated to the video, but I think a fun video idea you could do is testing out subscribers’ fragrance combinations or layering suggestions!
Afternoon Delight is beautiful but I can see depending on skin chemistry how this is going to be a love it or hate fragrance. I don't think it is going to be one that can be just a like for anyone.
I had the same reaction to afternoon delight and I also bought a full bottle! I played around with it and layered it with sucre de coton, and that pushed it in the direction I wanted.
I don't love the Margiela perfumes. I can tell they're well made because of the lack of an alcohol smell but other than that...I don't even like the By The Fireside scent, it just smells like pepper to me. As in the condiment.
I just got the Gleam Gritti “Vanilla crush” brand new on Mercari yesterday for a great price! I can’t wait to get my hands on it! It’s apparently a beautiful powdery vanilla with iris and spun sugar and musk! Someone said it reminded them of vanilla pudding! Boy I can’t wait to receive her in the mail! I’m headed to gulf shores for the second time this summer at the end of the month, so I’ll probably be taking vanilla crush with me! It’s originally 185$ and I got it for 121$! ❤ It’s apparently a beautiful vanilla and a pink bottle too! It’s gonna be my first one from the house! I’m not a fan of replica fragrances at ALL! Not interested in their new one either. Never been a fan.

The marketing gets me too, girl. Put any dessert in the promotional material and I will want to buy a bottle 🥲
They are well aware of this, cough Kayali

Thank you so much for your truthfulness.
Heavy Cream has become my bedtime scent.
Never been a fan.
i got a 10 ml to try first and I don't like it at all... I will return it
