Another way to make the magma method safer is to put a hatch controlled by pressure plates down the chute, so smoke will be blocked. You might need a lever as a backup just in case it gets stuck in an open state. Also, the placement of the magma example isn't ideal as it is a bit too close to bedrooms. Putting it further away and behind a few doors can help with the miasma issues if it's not illuminated.
a cheeky idea i found to reduce items flying everywhere is to put a retracting bridge one level above the atom smasher and link it to the same pressure plates. it completely eliminates item launching.
Using the cart stop to automatically dump the refuse stockpile is really clever approach! Usually I just used dump zones and levers to dispose manually like the other youtubers promote. I can't believe I never thought to use the minecarts even after years of using this exact mechanic for quantum stockpiles.
I would also remove raw hides and fish from the refuse in the items list otherwise you'll lose a lot of leather and food. Also horns/hooves can be used to craft too and might be asked for a strange mood.
Fish aren't in refuse piles - they're in food. For hides though that's a good shout - since adding autobutcher from dfhack I've found that my tanners can't keep up with the butcher output so I now remove non-rotten skin from the cart, that way the hides end up in refuse but won't get dumped unless they rot. I wasn't aware that horns/hooves are strange mood items thanks for the heads up there!
@@FurtherReadingTV "Prepared" raw fish is in the food tab. The Raw "unprepared" fish is in Refuse same as raw skin. Type "Raw" under the Refuse > item types.
You may not have encountered this yet, but if you dump a large item into magma it creates magma mist which kills anything that gets caught in it. Magma dumps should drop at least 3-4 levels to avoid the chance of your dorfs inhaling magma :)
Thanks for these good contents. I started to love this game after watching plenty of tutorials made by you. Could you please let me know how to toggle the shortcut letters on the game user interface? I searched the settings but there is no such thing. I presume you are using a mod or something else?
Where you set the dump will make it dump on the floor not the pit as they put items directly on the single dump square. I know since I often do that with stone, creating a single tile dump next to my workshops, mark a bunch of stones to be dumped, and then reclaim the stone.
Nope in this case because there's an open space next to it it'll go in the hole. The b-roll of all the folk dropping fish is done from a similar adjacent dump. I think there's a shot of the dumped rock inside the hole at one point too.

I come here after 6 months of break, always a pressure to see your tutorials again thx a lot

May I ask for a video tutorial about using blueprints in DFHack?

Finaly some automatization. I tired mark things as a garbage in garbage stk already. Thaks!!!
Don't forget bones can be useful for strange mood...
Would like to see a video on cool stuff you can setup after you've captured goblins etc in cages.
My next video is gonna be on cage shenanigans in fact!

Yeah I'm I using a mod! It's called something like interface tweaks, it should be on the first page of steam's most subscribed mods.
@@FurtherReadingTV Got it. Thanks again
