I've got the Xikar Pipeline pipe lighter. I purchased it a few years ago for around $50. It was the most expensive pipe tool I ever purchased. What sold me on it was the LIFETIME warranty. After using crappy drugstore butane, it quit working. I went back to the B&M and told them what happened. They tried cleaning it out but it still wasn't working. They just handed me a new one! "That's the great thing about a lifetime warranty," the salesman told me. I also bought a couple of cans of the Xikar butane. It's been working great ever since.
I've had my eye on this lighter for a while before you posted this video and I wanted to express my appreciation. I was hesitant to buy it due to the low price but your review convinced me to try it. I got it in the mail today and I love it! I also bought the Mr. Brog pipe you reviewed and I am very pleased with it as well. Thank you for the time and professionalism that you put into your videos, and please keep the Fallout videos coming too!
Cool, I've noticed you seem kinda "meh" about most of Brogs products, while other people are raving about the great deals. Nice to hear different perspective.
I've bought a few things from Mr Brog, and feel the same. I've had two tampers, two lighters, and one pipe. All had a little something wrong with them, but only minor. A decent steeping stone to something better down the line.
spot on review! I have a mr Brog lighter and while it has it's cons, it's still a very usable lighter. Would love to get a 100 dollar one when I have some spare cash. Thanks for the review!
How long has it lasted/do you still have it? I bought a Chinese lighter that stayed lit while open, it also made the super flame. One day I was lighting a bong and got surrounded in fire for 2 seconds. Never buying Chinese again
Quality has improved in them ..their lift arm models are most certainly worth the $15 to $20 they cost . last one i had lasted 2 years of daily use at a desk still worked when i lost it. Gold plated finish stayed good amazingly . . so i got another. Recently And the quality is even better .fwiw i don't like their lower end peizo ignition ones . with mr brog lighter always go for flint operating .
Enjoy your channel. I've used the lighter for several years, no problems. Great lighter. BTW, the pick on the tamper is perfect size to adjust the flame.
I have tried a lot of lighters over the past few years and think your review is spot on. The past few months I have been using the Z-Plus pipe lighter insert for Zippos. It is 100 times better then the Thunderbird insert. I got it from wannalight.com for about 13 bucks. The description says torch flame but its not it is a very nice soft flame lighter and works every time even in the wind. The Z-Plus also has a tank that is clear so you can see it fill up with butane and is a perfect fit in the Zippo case. Just my 2 cents.
+Thomas Grube - I was NOT impressed with the Thunderbird inserts. I prefer to NOT use butane in my Zippos because they're my "outdoor lighters," but it's nice to hear that there is a good alternative.
Finally, my (im)patience and youtube page refreshing has been rewarded! This seems to be a BIC lighter wearing some fancy duds. What to do? What to do? Save up, or go for it? Hmmmm. Thanks for spending your time with this item and making a review for it...
I've both Corona and Peterson. I prefare Peterson which's older...I don't know why.Mr.Brog might be a solution for smokers whom might loose easy their lighters.I wish a nice start for the upcoming week.
Sorry to bother you but I've a question. Va/pers has played a major part lately. Been smoking obvious blends like St.James, Escudo,Elisabethian,LBF,Flake Medallions,Old Gowrie....Been smoking long time mostly "English" and Burley blends,so my knowledge in Va/pers is quite Limited. Thanks.
Thanks for your answer. Got myself a Tin of Davidoff English Blend. It reminds me of Nightcap,,Davidoff lacks of depth of Nightcap and black Cavendish. Better than I thought.
Good, thorough review. Provided the snuffer cap and flint housing don't begin to wobble over time, the Brog looks like an exceptional value. Even the Corona OB isn't perfect when it comes to tight fitting parts, despite the price. And some people prefer a less weighty lighter, which can be more comfortable in the pocket. Still, nothing seems to be as good as my refillable Clipper with its sturdy flame-resistant nylon case. 3000 lights per fill. Very inexpensive. Difficult to beat. Mark
+Bartholomew Fotheringay-Phipps - Yes, no product is perfect, but some can perhaps be perfect for YOU. Sounds like you may have found that in your lighter.
Exceptional tobacco, good lighter, good pipe all are apart of the "experience" and joy of pipe smoking for me. Now if I could only get my hands on a small oblong silver serving tray with handles; the hunt begins! I actually was leaning toward a peterson but the chrome striped was sold out! Went with a Corona Old Boy, warranty/repair work for the Corona being right down the road from me is pretty convenient; just a nice little perk haha.
Mine flew apart after a couple days of use. Contacted Mr. Brog via eBay for an exchange or refund and never heard back from them. Up until this purchase, I was pleased with other Mr. Brog products.
There's no way you can compare Mr Brog to the Peterson on the build and quality of the lighter, but hell at $15 bucks it does very very well and you really can't complain about it. Had mine so far for 6 months and no problems so far, and that's smoking 1 to 2 bowls a day. Pipe clear is just fine, if I forget my tamper or can't fine a nail or gold tee lying around this tamper is right there with lighter whenever you need it.
Piece of crap This is a generic lighter probably made in China. My lighter is exactly the same but has the 4th Generation logo(Stokabee) .Unfortunately I paid $40. Cant seem to fill with Butane. ? leaking valve. No warranty. Stay with my Bic.
I picked a couple up last week figuring if it was complete garbage you would of done the review a couple weeks ago ha! Works pretty well and is scratching that old boy itch for now. I'll probably still break down and get a Corona eventually but will at least wait till mine fail. Cheers!
I'd pick one up for that price for a "walking around lighter". I have Peterson and an Old Boy both of which I like a lot. I also have a Xikar that I don't care for. Maybe mine is defective, but I can't adjust the flame high enough to suit me. Anyway, good reviews. Might look at a Mr Brog pipe and lighter for a knockabout kit.
Hi, bought the same lighter about the same time. The flame on mine does not get as huge as yours when the gas turned up to max, after that its been ok for me. Thx for your review.
Richard Logan Bought this lighter, nearly same experience. Actually it was a bigger flame. It lights every 4/5 times. Ordered the Peterson for $56 or so from GP. Looking forward to it
Great review, and as always, I enjoy your announcer voice you use to read the manufacturer perks! Looks like a good value, while I wait for my dream lighter to be gifted! I need to do some butane research also, my Thunderbird insert gives me quite a bit of trouble. Thank you sir!
Looks like a Xikar pipe lighter. I gave up on cheap "old boy" knock offs. I finally bought an old boy and what a difference. The Peterson sounds intriguing because of the bigger reservoir and I hardly ever use the old boy pipe tool. Another Great review!!
+Gus Evening - Yeah, the larger capacity is what caused me to finally choose the Peterson. I'm sure I would have been happy with the Corona as well though.
about the warranty l bought 3 of these lighters 1 broke in 5 days the other in 6 months all you need to to get a replacement is go to there web site and with your order# and product number tell them what's wrong thin a day later they will send you an email asking for pictures of said item you email them the pictures thin they will send you a new one
I doubt very much if the Mr Brog factory makes Pipe lighters, it looks identical to the Xikar lighter churned out by the 1000's in China and India, there are several versions of the same style cheap available, eBay and amazon seem to have options for the finish, however i bought an Ebay special old boy copy and it worked....just for about the time t took to enjoy a bowl, then you have to refill, a mixture of small tank and leaking extinguisher valve. not brilliant but as you say for $15 dollars as cheap to throw away as spend the international postage sending it back with a stinker. good review ...where is my Sunday smoke? Simon :)
+simon cooper - Yes, I think the same company makes many of these cheaper lighters. I always try to post Sunday Smoke by 4:00 pm Pacific Standard time.
I should've got this instead of the Vector Thinderbird insert. I've thrown mine out after wearing my thumb out. It usually takes 20 flicks per light. I am saving for a Peterson. Just wish they had more favorable designs.
@@stuffandthingsyoutube i know this is 4 years old but on my vector insert, after I flip the zippo open, i have to blow at where the flame should come out and then if I hit the striker wheel it'll light up on the first spark. for some reason there's no oxygen after you close them. but If i blow on it before I try to light it it'll light everytime. it just needs fresh air :/
I chucked mine after 4 days. I got it as a truck lighter originally. I should have bought $15 worth of Bics, at least they don't leak all the butane inside an hour.
I got one. It wasn't producing a huge flame, so I adjusted the flame size. Now it's huge. You can HEAR the flame. I emailed them and got the "we are sorry. Send us a picture of the broken item with amazon order # and we will replace it." Mine was closer to 25. I like it though.
Have had ome for 2+ years. Worked fine till i lost it. Got another. Seems even better built . tighter spring more uniform gas adjustment range. The only con is its got a small butane tank

What you call a pipe scoop at the end of a tamper is actually a screwdriver to adjust the flame height
