    I am flattered this footage has become so popular all of a sudden. First, it's definitely not fake Second, I'm the pilot, and I own the store that sells these kites. The model I'm flying is a 1.5 Custom SUL in the Black/Lime color pattern. Anyone that would like to learn is more than welcome to visit the pier, I will happily take you down to the beach and teach you. If you have questions, please call the store, I'm happy to talk to you about them. Someone posted there are now probably 80,000 looking for where to buy one....that would be spectacular. I don't quite have that many in stock, but I have 100 or so! Thank you all for the kind comments, it was VERY fun to do, that kid was awesome! I hope he comes in again and says hello.
    Best,

      *That was very dangerous flying your spinning kite next to that kids face and eyes* then stopping your kite close to his head and to those people walking by. Its very irresponsible kite flying which would have got you thrown off the kite park where I fly. Rule number 1 ...dont fly near or above people. Its dangerous! and can result in lost or damaged eyes, plus burns and cuts from kite lines. 0:20

    Hey Scott,
    I'm honored to be compared with JB, but I'm sorry to report, that is not John at the helm, it is actually yours truly. Also, the kite is not his signature B Series, it's one of our Custom Rev 1.5's (that has the same Icarex sail material, frame, bridle, etc. as a B Series, B Pro, etc.). They are on my web site in various colors and models if you'd like to check them out. The exact model being flown in this footage is a SUL (which actually isn't available in a B Series) with a 2 wrap frame on 50# line at 75', in about 4-5 MPH of wind. Thank you for your comment, I know John will appreciate the comparison also!

    • @scottralston130
      @scottralston130 10 лет назад +3

      So, so Sorry Dave and JB, when I saw the walking thing that's where I went with it and since I haven't seen the kite, figured it was JB's. Wow, I went wrong on every possible level... Guess I shouldn't try and be a knowitall. Props to you Dave, I guess now I should run up and buy my next kite at the Kite Connection, yes?... I am closer now, are you still on the pier? BTW is there going to be a KP this year?

      @@mrinterested Well since buying everything i think i was able to get out to fly about 5 times. Weather and location in nyc is not so great so i usually head out to a beach. I have become very comfortable setting up and getting it up in the sky. I have had about 4-5 hard crashes and no frame work broke so it was amazing. Crashing becomes less as you fly more. I am hoping with the good weather coming in I can hone in my my skills and work on clock work.

    The supper thin, extremely low stretch strings on these Kites can make a serious cut. I wouldn't let a child play in that position. I go to a holding position overhead when people cross the path and caution children to keep a reasonable distance, it's not as if the lines are so long (about 70 feet) that the distance is great. Just better to be safe and more importantly teach safety. No matter how good you are, some people take the expression "I am experienced, don't try this" as a challenge.

      That is very good advice, thank you. As a professional flyer of 30 years, with insurance, I can assure you the child was never in danger, and the parents were well aware of the flying line characteristics. But again, thank you for reinforcing the safety guidelines.

      +Dave Shenkman , on second look at the video I realize that the child is on the back of the kite, opposite of the strings. I have a really old Rev 2. The look of the kite is so appealing to people I am a bit nervous people will rush up to it sometimes. Worthy of note; your flying skills are far smoother than mine, fortunately the beaches in my area have a small fraction of the visitors that I see there even though we can only use our beaches about 3 months out of the year.

      Fysh They are quad-line (four line) kites.
      Most people are only familiar with single line kites. With those you can only let out more line, making the kite go out and back. Fun for young kids, but most people grow out of that phase.
      Dual line stunt kites are somewhat more common. Pull on the left string and the kite turns left, pull on the right string it turns right. With a small amount of practice you can draw patterns like circles and squares, stair-steps, and more; pair up with a friend and in tandem you can do all kinds of visually fun designs. In addition to being able to steer in any direction, you can give a sharp tug to make it flip over on axis, make it lay down (turtle), tumble end-over-end, and much more.
      Quad line stunt kites like the Revolution shown in the video allow an amazing amount of control. The kite pilot has two small rods with lines affixed to each end, the top and bottom of both rod. By pulling or twisting the rods, effectively the pilot can push or pull on any of the four corners. When you learn to control all four corners on a quad line kite, you can control nearly all aspects of flight, only limited by (invisible) changes in the wind. Given a steady wind at your back and practice at the controls, controlled stunts like the ones in the video can be done easily.
