Although I am a football player but the craze for cricket is way more than football in India, I hope football also grows in India but at the same time I don't want the craze of cricket to go down in India as my whole family is a great cricket fan and they really enjoy the moments.
Cricket has become a very lazy , excess greedy , unrelevent , lots of ads and weather oriented sports. If our football team was strong enough or even compete in world cup regularly cricket would have died long ago. Cricket is factually a waste of time. That's why it is not preferred as first sports in many developed nations.

He has said the same early this year when he wasn't retired. Facing the reality is first step to improving. Now football is getting more money than few years ago due to league matches so now they can do better as they are getting better coaches too. You can't always blame the older players. If some sport is getting money now, we have a population of 1.4 billion and that means if we want we can make a good enough team to compete at international level. There was a lot of politics going on in Indian football. Politics ruins any game. Look at West Indies cricket or few years ago even South Africa went down briefly or Sri Lanka or Pakistan. They were good team with good players, WI was once the top team so they didn't just forget playing cricket but politics ruined it from within and now they are trying to rebuild
