Agree. And did you see how many custom shops are in GB? You could get anything fixed or purchased in GB. Here in the US they're like "Wha?"... Not good. They were better off in GB.

While I am sure Ed did his homework before plumping for a recon steering unit, I'd be wary of a manufacturer claim when it comes to spares / DIY. In my experience they're not always honest as they'd rather you pay them to sort it or at least pay them for more parts than you actually might need.
One example is the somewhat tatty gearknob in my Astra. Vauxhall claim you can't just change the knob, you need to change the whole shifter as a unit, which is £300 from a dealer. However a short search on the 'net reveals you can get a replacement knob for under £20 off eBay and, while it can be a bit of a faff, you can change it at home with basic tools.

Dealt with stuff like that. The "non-serviceable" parts are just another way for dealerships and authorized vendors to grab more money out of our pockets.
