One of the great shows that most folks have never heard. Outstanding from start to finish. An early Brent era China Rider that is just.... splendid. Jerry's guitar is spinning tall tales with supreme confidence and intent. A gem of a show. Good Lovin doesn't get much better than this one. And so on!❤️❤️
Oh yeah what a memory of a great show, great venue and wild acid-drenched scene. Playing out in San Bernardino, home of the Socal Hell's Angels. Band had a good and unique history playing in that town. Venue was one of those rectangular ones where the band plays on the "short" side. Wild dancing out on the fringes of the floor...my 10th show and first show on acid I ventured into those wild spaces and really lost myself. The show itself is outstanding, the first of 3 nights in SoCal Long Beach Arena on the 12th and 13th. ah the glory days :)
This is one of the better shows from ‘80. First show after John Lennon was murdered, Jerry in tears for He’s Gone. A quality audience was widely circulated shortly after this show. This copy runs quite fast. The Swing Auditorium was a 10,000 seat venue built in the 1940’s, only to be destroyed some time in later in 1981 by an airplane crashing into it. Footnotes: One of my favorite albums of all time was recorded here- Johnny Winter Captured Live. Check out his version of Highways 61 from that- some of the best guitar playing you’ll ever hear. I always thought the venue name had something to to with the swing era of the big bands, instead it was named after Senator Ralph Swing
that high quality audience recording was from the legendary taper Joani Walker. she would sit right next to the SBD was friends with Healy. {{{RIP Joani}}}
@@theOsoRojo yup. I still have a bunch of her tapes including the 12-10 and 12-11-79 Kansas City’s. Her captures were usually the best of the show just because of her vantage point, if nothing else

@chrisleblanc581 Hmm... I won't say that that is a unique perspective, but it is definitely a rare one. If you don't mind my asking, where is this coming from?
@cjridleblanc581. Looked back at some of old interviews, and I see your point. Jerry admitted that some of their shows sucked, and then said that they had improved. "At least now they can expect a professional show" if I remember correctly. Still,it was their ability to sell tickets that got them their first record deal, and gave them the ability to negotiate that deal from a position of strength. They built a fan base that enabled them to earn more in ticket sales than Michael Jackson earned from thriller. I respectfully submit that not everyone likes licorice.

Best I’ve ever heard Bobby’s voice and control Jerry’s voice sounds great as well! Wish they could’ve stayed like that lol

A band that specialized in quantity over quality.
