I absolutely loved that, it was mesmerising. I hope to visit. The suspension bridge pier made me wow. So many images of interest particularly the people. Thank you.
3:13 building on left was National school corner of West St Newport went there 1962 to 1966, as an Islander born and bred, I made out most of the places, great video thanks
Lovely. Thank you. As an ex-pat Islander I think I got about half of these. But surely the very large 4-screw ship on the ways at 4:44 can't be on the Island, as she was far too big for Sammy Whites. Perhaps Tyneside or Belfast? Some places haven't changed a bit, for example Sea View High Street is exactly the same. Very good.
Great pictures of my home, i think one or two didn't belong but most of them were great, the one of the market in St James Sqare Newport was great, i remember the market in the area where Morrisons is now in Newport, mum used to takes us around there every tuesday, i loved all the animals
Born in Newport in 1955, in the 60s use to go to the Church Litten Market on a Tuesday ,then over to Church Litten park under the weeping willow tree for a fish and chip lunch and in the 90s worked on the old site of the Market, when being built for the Morrisons ( Safeways) store
At 3:10 went to school in the building on the left, in 1962 to 1966 it was West St Cof E school in Newport and at 2:47 is Godshill my mum used to work in the gift shop in the middle of picture in the late 70s
That was so wonderful - thank you for putting it together. Also - it must have been incredibly difficult to choose music for it and you chose very, very well!
According to 'They All Love Jack' by Bruce Robinson the Isle of Wight is where Jack the Ripper retired. He was Michael Maybrick, aka Stephen Adams, who was the mayor of the isle 5 times. He died peacefully in his sleep in 1913.
5:38 shows the Seaview chain suspension pier (also visible in background at 6:44 Seagrove Bay beach tents). The lovely house at 6:19 is Swainston Manor near Calbourne. The owner John Simeon-Barrington was the MP for Southampton, and he had his own private railway station Watchingwell Halt built nearby on the Freshwater line for his personal use !
This has brought back so many happy memories. but most of all the picture of Hazelwood in Ashey road Ryde where us boys played in the bombed building after the war.
I absolutely loved that, it was mesmerising. I hope to visit.

Well done everyone.
Thank you for this wonderful video - it has given me a glimpse of what life was like for my ancestors there (Butler family)
0:31 Literally a shed on a raft works better than the flashy floating bridge we have now.
Great photos, had a lot of fun trying to name the places.
Thank you 👍🏻

Oh, that I were a time traveller! I'd go back there...and probably stay there.

The picture at 0.37 is of my road! Our house isn't there as it wasn't built then. Interesting video, thanks.

6:39 Castlehaven the last one at 7:08 is the old Blackgang road under Gore cliff, now mostly in the sea
Superb video, I have great memories of the IOW from the 50s through to the 80s
That was so wonderful - thank you for putting it together. Also - it must have been incredibly difficult to choose music for it and you chose very, very well!
The music is by Vangelis and the album is Oceanic. If you like this song you will like the whole album.
7:08 is the old Blackgang road beneath Gore Cliff. Not there anymore due to landslips.
Very nice some writing to with the pictures spotted some places like the Crab inn Shanklin
The abandoned railway station at 3.07 is Godshill.
Very enjoyable. Many thanks.
(The photo at 4:28 can't have been taken before 1948, though, since that was the first year of British Railways.)
That locomotive still exists as the sole remaining member of its class, preserved at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. W24 Calbourne.
Excellent all round. At least there's no wrist-slitting music in THIS video.
6:22 Winkle St Calbourne
Childhood memories of playing in that stream
Quite a challenge to try to identify the locations before the picture faded -some were Very Hard. Thank you.
