Enjoyed a long weekend caravanning at the side of that bridge last year and an ice cream from the Black shed, many walks up and down the canal admiring the boats, I thought the nesting boxes on the wall of the lock keepers building interesting, it was your video' of Sharpness that sowed the seed for the visit, Great video Chris..

Peter Scott came to Slimbridge originally to shoot birds and paint!! Slimbridge is a village that belongs to The Berkeley Castle Estate. For hundreds of years this area provided game for the Castle and locals.Even back in 1960s my friend`s dad regularly hunted this area to feed his family. The Estate still leases the land to farmers and WWt.

I have known those bridges so well in the past. I associate each with a walk, time to watch the passing vessels, then a return to the car and off to a place to eat. We were also members of the WWT, so have been to Slimbridge many times. Now, living 200 miles away, you refresh those memories and add to the story I already knew. Many thanks.

Sadly, you missed out on the memorial window to Sir Peter Scott in the church at Slimbridge. Not my favourite stained glass window but a tribute to a very remarkable man. There's some connection to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Yes, sorry to miss that. It was a flying visit so will make a point of going back to see it.

Remember visiting the Wildfowel Trust in 1965 , doubt if I would recognize it now, progress I guess.
