This video is still useful after 10 years. I just replaced the power board on my old laptop and this really helped me find all the screws and know where the ribbon cables were.
(Though I did still somehow end up with an extra screw in the end... Maybe I'll figure out which one was missed the next time I have to take it apart)

Hello again! I finally fixed my problem.
First I ordered 2x4Gb RAM to replace the standard 3Gb, didn't solve the problem. And I really didn't know what the problem was so I just left it and started to watch a movie from my hard drive. It was doing the same thing as TERA, so I monitored my computer from task managers resource monitor and found the problem. Each time computer froze I saw Discs highest active time skyrocket. HDD was my problem, so I ordered SSD. Now it is better than ever.

Oh! That explains it... Thanks a lot, Sir! You are the best.
If I have further questions, I'll definitely let you know. :)

    1) For just accessing the motherboard without removing it, you dont need to remove the fan nor the video connector.
    2) Before removing the motherboard, it would also be a good thing to remove the internal coin battery ;-)
Very good video anyway (except maybe for the focus of the camera ;-). Very clear and complete.

there are many possibities of that loose contact. 1st. it could be the video/data cable that is loosely connected to the back of your LCD or LED screen. So you need to open the back portion of your screen and reset the cable. I will also check the connector on the systemboard. Try to reset it too. 2nd: It could be that your LCD sreen high voltage wire (pink/white or blue/white wires) are also loose. Check those suggestions and see if it improves your experience. Good luck!

sorry for late reply... I can't give you definite answer on this, except that you can check in Google for compatible replacement for nVidia 310M or maybe check with nVidia supplier if they can match. Best site to start is Alibaba since most of GPU chip suppliers are mostly from China. Good luck, sir!

yes, you are right. Your CPU is overheating and that is the reason why if shuts off the whole system. Just put thermal paste in between CPU and heatsink, as well as thermal pad in between the GPU or video chip and heatsink if you are using NVidia chip. Just Google on how to apply thermal paste on the cpu, same with 'how to apply thermal pad on the video chip'. Good luck!

14:46 What is the processor just left from where you were unscrewing?
There was a small rubber on the lid that goes on top of it and I forgot to put it back. Do I have to do it?

hello, I got some problems with my optical drive. I read it's possible to adjust the laser so it'd work again but do I have to disassembly the whole notebook to gain access to the laser potentiometers?!

Hi, please connect your notebook vga port to an external monitor and see if you can get a normal display. If so, then you have to do trial and error test on your LED screen. You said LED, correct? If so, then it does not have any inverter board. I'm sorry that you have to get another similar LED screen to test on your notebook. I have tried other LED from different machines but as long as connector pins are same, just to test whether the LED bulbs will light up... Good luck!

My Asus K52F right click of the touch pad is not functioning, i already updated the Elan software. What do you think is the solution for this?Should i check the button inside the laptop? Also, is it proper to drain the remaining power by pressing the power button for a few seconds to avoid static inside the laptop, after removing the battery pack?

Hey, have an old Asus K52JT with an i7 740QM.
Can I safely upgrade to the i7-920XM or 940XM?
If so, does the cooling work? :D
    Greetings from Germany :)

If you google "what's the difference between Asus X and K series notebook" , then you will find so many answers. I would assume the K52 and X52 are but same in physical design with only few enhancements with chipset or other parts... I suggest to just open it, but make sure you know where you took out the parts. Use a digital camera to record your disassembly process. Unless you open it, then you can't upgrade to 8GB.. Good luck! P.S. I share disassembly tips in my other videos. Pls watch them

    The P/N is Chi Mei N156BGE-L21 REV.C1.
The problem with the display is that it's extremely dark / completely dark, while the external monitor works perfectly.
I "restarted" (replugged) the display from the motherboard, but it didn't help.
I should replace the whole display, shouldn't I?

    Hello,
Thanks for sharing this nice video. I am having problem with screen after assembling. It´s white and does not show anything. I have checked ( Well I think so) that the video cables( the thick black one for screen) and two thin (black and white) are correctly attached. Any other check the I might do, or missing? Hi. I have a question about my ASUS K52J laptop. I'm pretty sure that the problem is somewhere in the hardware, but don't know where. When I start playing TERA the online mmorpg, my computer freezes constantly and loading screens take 30min at worst. The game takes 30Gb of room, but that isn't the problem, I have plenty. So what do you think is the problem? Should I upgrade my RAM from 3Gb to 8Gb? Or try to upgrade CPU? Or is that even possible? Thank you in advance.

Hi there, I wanted to ask if it would be possible to upgrade the GPU on this model. I have the same one and the Nvidia 310M it has is not quite as powerful as would like. If it can be upgraded, would you be able to recommend a replacement? thanks for the video, its very helpful.

Hi, I am trying to replace the hinges on a K52f. Do I have to take out the fan and heatsink to do it? I have removed the screws around the bottom edge but the bezel covering the hinges is not lifting off. do I have to unscrew the mobo? Thanks for any advice.

Hi, your problem is the backlight or LCD bulb. If it is the inverter board, then it should not have even lighted at all. Reddish or pinkish color is an indication of poor connection or bad bulb. I have one tutorial on how to replace a backlight, but I warn you, it's not for the faint of heart. It may need a little of expertise.. but you are more that welcome to try it. Good luck!

    ...comm continued
Now there's a picture on the screen, but it is unclear and red. It's not the VGA,because when i connect notebook with the monitor, picture is fine.
Do you have any idea what is the problem? Did i broke the LCD or invertor? :/
    Sorry because of my English
    Thank you!

Thanks lots forthe vid! I have a question which may lead to several others... If i have a current blackscreen LED without the inverter, how exactly do I know its an LED (my laptop is an Asus K52Jr-A1 Series) and if its surely a LED screen how can I fix the blackscreen without knowing its not an inverter problem? (The blackscreen shows several lines of light, but not exactly what comes up on the monitor) thanks for the help if so...

Thanks for the great vid! I have a question though. It seems my inverter is not working properly, so I'd like to replace it, but unfortunately it's not below the LCD display (as it was in your clip). Do you have any idea where it might be located?
    My laptop is Asus K52JT-SX505V.

Hi, thanx for your video.. it's really amazing to see how to disassemble the K52J into a lot of pieces.. ;) But I've a question, maybe you can help me out. First, I have a X52J.. I'm wondering if my X52J has the same structure of components as your K52J, because only the K is a X. I googled around a lot, but I still don't know the difference between a K52J and a X52J.. The point is, I really want to upgrade my mem. from 4 to 8 GB, in case if this is possible ofcourse. Maybe you can tell.. Thanx!

    Hi Jarcomtech,
I was just wondering if you knew offhand if this Laptop has the same layout as the A52f? Reason i ask is that i have to renew the thermal compound on the GPU and CPU because they are running hot even with the fan on (have been told the manufacturers use cheap rubbish stuff to begin with and i should put Artic Silver or something like that on there) if it is the same layout i can use this video to see how i can take the cooling system off.
