- A great musician from La Paz playing on one of the great music shops there. Often in the evenings there will be a jam at one of the stores. This was a charango from off the wall that I had just purchased.
Agustin Alonso owns the store in downtown La Paz. He is the guy at end of clip. Well worth a visit if you are there.
Please don't ever delete this video. I've come back to it so many times over the years
you can export youtube videos jsyk… might be worth doing for this one!
Check out Danial Amaya Churango for some other great videos
@@IronHideWildfire Thank you so much!! I found him and subscribed
That right hand is amazing
Same
I visited Don Agustin's shop back in 2016 or 17, when I was still living in La Paz. I had an accident and part of my creole guitar broke. He mas able to tell which wood it was only by touching the surface, totally mindblowing. I came back a week later. The guitar was not only looking like new, but it was sounding even better than before. I will never forget that experience.
Awesome bro. If I ever own a creole guitar and happen to be in La Paz, I know which shop to go to i guess
My life will never be complete until I own. A CHARANGO
It's an awesome name isn't it?
Yeah, it's great, and it's probably one of the funnest instruments I played, which is great since it connects to my culture personally
Lol! I get that.
Did you ever get one?
Brittney Pearce
This video years ago inspired me to travel to South America and get a Charango for myself, ended up learning it in Ecuador from a marvelous Chilean man
How much did it cost you? I’m looking to buy one and I’m trying to avoid overpaying since I’m buying one in NA.
Mucho nivel todo este video. Esos rasgueados son increíbles. Felicitaciones.
Un saludo desde Bogotá, Colombia.
It's early in the morning here in Whittier, CA and this song made me cry. The sound was soulful and magical. It took me to another land
Amazing! What a talented young man. Perfectly captures the soul of my beautiful country.
What an awesome video!!! I love the charango, in fact I own one. My parents are Bolivian, they are also music teachers here in the US. I was born here in the US. I play Charango, Pamflute, Piano, Trumpet and I sing. I sing with my family and we sing and play Bolivian Instruments. If you want to know more message me. God Bless USA and Bolivia.
@Musician Vargas, My parents are also Bolivian, my sister & I were both born here in the US. I am jealous that you can play. I have always been in love with the sound of the charango. In one of my visits I just couldn't resist and bought myself one and still don't know how to play it. People here don't even know what it is. They see it and think it is a Ukulele.. any advice or sites that you may have come across where I can begin to learn.
+CraftyCreativeChic, What is your name on facebook, Find me on facebook, MusicianVargas@yahoo.com
I could not find you. :-(
+CraftyCreativeChic , Find me under Michael C. Vargas
Any links to your family's music, Vargas? I'm on a major charango tip at the moment!
Here in Amazonas Brasil we use it on our typical music, Boi Bumbá, from Parintins city, it is a really beautiful Festival and has pretty toadas (songs). 🤩
I’m a guitar player but when I was in Bolivia I discovered the charango which was fun to play
I had to find something on the internet as to what kind of instrument a 'charango' is and what it sounds like, as for reason that I read that musician David Lindley allegedly has mastered and plays one in addition to about two dozen other stringed instruments.
I'm not only pleased that you posted this video, and thus making it a relatively easy search, but I'm also pretty doggone impressed with the sound of the instrument and the talent of the fellow playing it.
Thanks for posting.
Got one in Cusco and it was the best investment I made all trip. beautiful sounding instrument.
Oh cool Sam, Don't forget the Charango is a Bolivian made instrument. Bolivia used to a part of Peru but because of the separation now they are two countries. My parents are From Bolivia
It's an andean instrument. Peru and Ecuador and Chile and parts of Argentina play it as well. It's a shared heritage. Stop trying to take full credit for it.
Although I will say that most people agree that Bolivia takes the charango more seriously than other countries
I am looking for an awesome teacher for charango like this guy anywhere from Colombia to Chile. If somebody could help me get to my teacher - I'd be very grateful!
Please reach out if anything comes to mind.
Me too
Those rasgueados were on point.
Which part is that?
@@evan_ingalls its the hand strumming
@@evan_ingalls Nearly the entire thing. It's the type of strumming used.
this man changed my life and i need to find him
Show this video around La Paz and I'm sure you will!

I love my Charango! I might not ever get to his level of skill, but I am learning to bring the Chicu out of it.

Yo conocí a Don Alonso (soy de La Paz). No está durmiendo. Está escuchando. El señor es ciego y siempre cierra los ojos.

Man, he's moving his hand at light-speed.
Really nice
Muy bien cumpa
To Valerio...
Depends on the quality and if it is made from an Armadillo shell...
Most are now made of wood...
Look on E-Bay... there are several there... you can see the prices...
Awesome.
Talento boliviano , interpretando el charango , composicíon músical de William Ernesto Centellas grán marstro del charango boliviano.❤💛💚
Is that the song toward the end? Wonderful tune, thanks for pointing us to the author. :)
El autor es Mauro Nuñez Caceres !!
El Arriero casi Similar al tema “ kurukuta “ de Ernesto Cavour.
También es de mi agrado el tema de “ Marinita “ de William Ernesto Centellas.
My friend Frank Rodriguez from Houston sells these. I'm not sure of the website but something like Frank and Strings.
If you like this, check out Gustavo Santaolalla. He composed the music for The Motorcycle diaries and The Last of Us and uses a charango and another very similar instrument called a ronrocco.
Yeah that is cool check out my page, I will upload of me playing charango which I play. I am a American Born Citizen who loves American and Bolivian Folk Music. Charango is a Bolivian Made instrument as well as panflute
Def peruvian, from the andes
The soundtrack for the Motorcycle Diaries is SO wonderful.
@@piesca Neither. Peruvian nor Bolivian. Andean. There was no Peru nor Bolivia back when the Charango was invented. It's from all of us Andean countries: Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.
@@DivvyDeluxe The Andes go thru Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. Not only Peru.
Great my people !!!!
❤❤❤
Dime pf ¿el charango es de Perú o Bolivia? Gracias

How much does one cost if I buy it in La Paz, instead of buying one in the US?

fantastic video... thanks for making and sharing :-)
Blessings from Amsterdam ;-)
Thanks🙏 Story of my life!
And I thought the people playing the tahitian ukuleles had the most craziest of playing!
Tienes ritmo
My favorite part especially starts at 0:57
🇧🇴
cavaquinho misturado com viola.
how much does it cost a charango?
In La Paz and Bolivia - pretty cheap. The one he is playing here is the one I purchased. It was about $100US. That was in 2007.
thanks, very beautiful
Okay dumb question but: are charangos chronic-pain friendly? I had to give up learning guitar ‘cause the one I bought off a friend to learn was WAY too big (and wasn’t designed for nylon strings to simply restring it)
I got to talking to a guy selling a uke at a fleamarket and he suggested that smaller instruments + nylon strings would be the friendliest option once my chronic pain is better managed.
They're definitely smaller! You could try learning ukulele too. Either way both are small and lovely.
monstro.
What was it that he played? It sounded awesome
its called a charango i think
Seriously? It says in the title, "Fantastic CHARANGO playing"...
Erick Vazquez i think he meant what song he was playing
Juan Aguilar Hey Juan - the song is "El Arriero".
Actually it sounds like "vírgenes del sol"
William Ernesto Centellas the best of the best.
My dad recorded with William Ernesto Centallas and helped him arrange the musical notes for him.
It's made from the shell or carapace of an armadillo FYI
SolarAngel Waldeck Before yes, but I really doubt that this one is made of armadillo. This one is probably made of wood like most charangos are made of today.
Timothy Wedel Oh I don't mind if it's made from it or not, I'm not a radical card-carrying member of PETA...LOL I must admit it sounds like a cross between a mandolin and a ukulele, though
I swear I heard the Red Dead Redemption Mission Complete sound at the start.
Alguien sabe el nombre de lo que toca en el minuto 1:01 llevo mucho tiempo queriendo saber
El arriero?
Woo
Awesome!!! Do you remember which music shop it was, in La Paz?
Alex B Can't remember name of that one sorry!
El charango... Porque no?
Excuse my fingers
AGUANTE LATINA AMERICA!
But the great question is...

No Mauro Nunez ....no Ernesto Cavour....for me the best charango player was WILLIAM ERNESTO CENTELLAS.
