You mention a couple of invasions in Britain's history. Add in the Saxons, Normans plus big attempts by the Spanish, Dutch and the French; not forgetting, of course, the Germans, all of which is conveniently forgotten. Add in incessant tribal wars across the globe, especially in Africa and South America and you have to wonder where these Marxists are coming from. The Year 2020 will long be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

My parents went to England in the 1950s. They could not get accommodation because they were "Irish". Should my parents have a grievance ? Irish people were discriminated in United States for many years. Should they have a grievance and start tumbling the Protestant and generally anti catholic founders of United States? Should Israelis go to Egypt and demand the destruction of the statues and pyramid of Ramesis the second because he enslaved them several thousand years ago? History is history. In our modern generation we earn respect as the Irish did. We do not destroy respect and inflame discrimination as the IRA did. Should their descendants start burning, pulling down statues of Colonial monuments across Australia? The Irish earned respect and helped to build a great nation. They did not sit on their asses looking for pity!! If you read about the history of slavery in Africa, it went on for centuries during the Arab conquests across north africa. The caliphates enslaved millions of people in east and west Africa. They mutilated slave mens genitalia, and many of the women were used as sex slaves. It was the Arab traders who supplied the slaves along the shores of west africa to the British and American Slave ships. David Livingston the great British explorer documented the horrors of the arab slave markets. It was the British who forcibly stopped the arab slave trade across northern africa from the 1830s on. All empires were built off the backs of slavery. the British one isn't special. the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians... all of them had slavery and not all of them were black. we need to accept and remember but let it the fuck go.
this is honestly ridiculous and quite frankly asking, no expecting people to kneel and prostrate themselves in front of others in this day an age for something that their ancestors did is disturbing.
BlackLivesMatter was an understandable and important message but I lost all respect for it the moment they chose to propagate and condone violence and vandalism.
then they started tearing down statues? Fuck that. People aren't saints and are often a product of their time. we need to acknowledge the good and the bad. (never mind that some of the statues they're wrecking have nothing to do with slavery). What next, are we going to dismiss and revile Nelson Mandela for being a terrorist? or is that not the same because he was black?

These types are the sort of empire building wannabes for whom no stretch is too far to justify their delusions of grandeur or faux victimhood. Britain has a nasty past, a nasty present and always seems to be involved somehow when darker hued people are being disenfranchised around the world.
It is an historically and institutionally racist country where black opinion, advancement or inclusion is usually stifled by ‘people’ like this. Fact. They’d rather sweep the whole thing under the carpet and convince themselves that that nothing but good happened or is happening - cognitive dissonance of the most irrefutable.
Look at Meghan Markle, apart from marrying into royalty why exactly is she _still_ being hated on even after throwing in the towel and leaving!? Contrast that with Kate Middleton as yet another example of the typical Britishness people are trying to highlight.

It is our History, all history (good and bad parts) belong to us all. We need to preserve it to understand where we went right, where we went wrong and so we can see how much we've moved forward.
Those seeking to remove history and re-write history miss its purpose. History shows us both the great accomplishments and the great tyranies we, humans in general are capable of and gives us chance to reflect.
To tear down slaver traders' statues and remove their memory does a disservice to all those that wouldn't be here and wouldn't be enjoying the country we share without.
Though a sordid, sorry time... The ancestors that suffered under slavery should also be fondly remembered for their suffering which bought people to one of the greatest countries on Earth. We don't have to give thanks to the slave traders on display if we don't want to but if you wouldn't be here without them.... Choose to honour your ancestors that we're bought here because of them.
