Fun fact: at 4:31 the REASON the meshes were like that is because the playstation had some strange texture wobbling that would happen, adding more geometry hid most of that!
That is super interesting. I've seen that when playing PS1 games, and didn't consider that is why! Thank you!! :)
@@Level_reDesign Ey of course! If I remember right it was a cost cutting measure on the hardware end that gave it that look!
This, and also because the "lighting" was painted onto each vertex. So in order to get more control over it, you need more vertices, otherwise everything would have to be very flatly "lit".
and also because if the game used multiple textures in one atlas, you couldn't have the texture repeat. you need to make one face with the repeated uv coordinates for that specific texture
@@GogglzMUSIC The console approximates the vertices to integers on screen causing that wobble
I am a thirty year old man getting emotional over this my guy. Please keep up the good work and trigger my mid life crisis lol
Only 30 I'm 34. You got years to go my friend before middle age
31 here, just as intrigued. Dont care too too much about the movie, but the game was awesome for me when I was a kid.
32 here! Please make this game buddy. Most of us now have some
Sort of income as compared to the first time we played this game as kids. So you bet that we’re gonna happily pay to buy this game and appreciate your hard work!!!
30 is way too early to start a midlife crisis, wait 20 years longer :
BETA!
i love how a dude on his free time can just rebuild a classic game from the ground up, for the love of it. bravo my friend- looks incredible.
"rebuild a classic game from the ground up" lol
Cool to see you using Narrative Quest and Dialogue editor!! Nice vid
Thanks for watching reubs! Narrative is a great tool!
Ay Reubs🎉😊😅
Keen for the Lego city series !
The fact you made him glow, it could make Slime Time look like a horror genre boss fight, and Elevator Hop might be even more difficult.
Friend, you have all our support in this project. I played that incredible game when I was 13 years old. It would be a dream to play it remastered. Please continue with this project and you will be a legend for the entire gamer community.
FINALLY, someone who proclames "REMAKING" a game in Unreal and doesn't do a cheap copy with free assets from the store of the first map of the freaking game
This is heavily amazing, keep the great stuff!!
Love from Spain my dude
This. There is a really popular Banjo-Kazooie "Remake" that does just this. It's a shame too because it gets tons of praise from people who have no reference point as to how lazy they truly are.
@@manulis_I think the praise come from a perspective of not having anything like a remake from Microsoft nor fans
@@aguilarrojasoctavio4402 Sure, trust me, Banjo is a really special series to me and I understand the fanbases thirst for content after a two decade long dry spell. Although I will point out that Microsoft DID do an Xbox port with upscaled textures which I would argue is a much more appropriate "remake".
I'll just say that shamelessly downloading ripped and textured assets from the original game (not crediting the uploader), then slapping premade unreal assets and textures on it in an attempt to call it a "remake" is quite disingenuous and in my opinion, looks just terrible.
It's why I appreciate videos like this, where the creator shows their process and what tools they use. It shows how these things require a ton of moving parts to get traction and how any large project like this, inevitably becomes collaborative.
lol this guy
@@a.akacic lol indeed.
Dude! I'm so in love with your work right now. This is THE GAME of my childhood, as a child I never had much more than that old PS1 with just 5 games, but this was my favorite by far, I have very nice memories of spending an entire afternoon trying to pass it all at once, I had no memory card so I always took as a challenge to beat the game, the day I got it was simply awesome, I would love to be able to play it again, good luck with it pal!
This, Spyro, Toy Story Racer, and Speed punks were my PS1 games. I love all of them lol
Yoooo I had a similar experience, I was born in 2001 and I remember being like 6 or maybe 7 and it was like a year after the PS3 came out, my dad bought me a used PS2 and GTA Stan Andreas, when I turned the PS2 on, a game called Burnout 3 was inside so I got that for free, also I later got a game called The Simpsons Road Rage. So those were the only 3 games I ever had, and also I didn't have a memory card so I had to borrow my friends memory card and I remember most of the time, I wasn't able to save the game, I remember playing the first levels and areas of all 3 of those games over and over again because I couldent save, also I remember all of my discs got super scratched up and they all just stopped working, we didn't have the cases for them because when you bought a used game at GameStop, it would come in this weird paper sleeve thing that we would just throw away
The reason the walls aren't just two triangles is because of how the PS1 worked. If it was just two triangles, it'd be really shakey.
PS1 graphics are so nostalgic because of that! Its like you could see the game actively being rendered. Instead of just seeing the final render like modern games. If that makes any sense
@@alicatdotcom It's basically cause the PS1 had the vertices (the points in a mode) snap to pixels. Cause of a lack of "subpixel rasterization"
@@alicatdotcom But a lot of people who loves the old PS1 style forget that the CRT TVs were doing its share on how the games looked and hide those imperfections. So..pixelated textures and shaky low poly were cool but not for moder screens.
@@AKuld The pixel snapping caused the vertices to wobble but the textures wobbled because of a lack of perspective correct texturing.

I never thought this day would come. This was a childhood game for me. I had the PC version of this game that came on a CD and I still have it to this day. I've played this game several times recently on my PC with a PS emulator (The PC version was better though but doesn't run well anymore). Also been listening to the game soundtracks which have been playing throughout the video as they are really good, my favorite being the construction yard sound track. Looking forward to the project, especially once you start creating the enemies and I hope you try to stay as true to the original game as possible.
Buzz definitely needs to keep his wings inside of this suit, because it might end up breaking, not in game but in real life.
Plus it would really be appreciated if this remake resembled most of the original.
I plan to, but since the default animation state of the wings is open, and I am using placeholder, generic animations at the moment, the wing bones are not given any instructions (such as close or open). When I remake the animations, I will correct the wings then! :)
No way someone actually decided to do this. It’s a gods gift, very unexpected. Thank you sir, whoever you are
Man I hope your channel blows up in popularity because this is an incredible amount of work you’ve put in and very well done! I’ve subbed 😊
Reassembled is a very clever name, congratulations.
Antdude did a video about Toy Story 2 that is pretty good, and he suggested Disney to remake the game and name it Toy Story 2: Repacked, which is also a great name.
This game was so fun as a kid. I love the first few levels! I mean, Andy's house is iconic
I have a friend who just played the game for the first time last week. He beat the game, and he said that Andy's house was the best level. The general consensus from my friend group is that the best levels are Andy's house, Al's toy barn, and Al's Apartment. But that is mostly among a group of 10 friends talking. lol
Bro did not need to explain how everything worked, but my dork ass appreciated it. Usually people just say things like "So I added a light source to Buzz... Anyway!"
Wow. This looks incredible! One of my favourite games growing up! I CANNOT wait to see more!
LOVE the glow in the dark light mechanic!
Oh man, I really hope you can finish this, but I see a cease and desist from Disney in your near future.
If you have time, you should add the option to play as a different character if you beat the game. A lot of games from that era had this feature. It was mainly for visuals, fun, and replayability, so it doesn't matter if it doesn't fit in the story. They could just be a reskin or if you wanted to go the extra mile you you could give the alt-character similar abilities (Woody gets pistol-toy instead of laser, Bo-Peep throws sheep, Zurg uses his blaster, Ham shoots a coin, etc)
If you don't like the idea of doing it from beating the story, you could add other ways to unlock them.
Maybe they cost a variant of the pizza planet token instead (you could hide a few within the levels). This way you can have certain characters cost more than the others.
Or you could even add a character in some levels (Mr. Speak and Spell for example) who gives you a task to find letters. If you find all of them, it spells out the name of the character and you unlock it.
@@AgentHK-47 I REALLY like this idea... but the character you're thinking of was called Mr. Spell
Yes! This would be so cool. Reminds me of the spider-man 1 game from ps2 where you could play through the game as pretty much every character.
That idea kinda reminds me of what was done in the Disney infinity games (2-3 to be specific iirc) where in the second they had a specific amount of tokens (like in the Spider-Man playset, there was tokens for iron man and the hulk) and stuff with an extra animation showing their arrival, and 3 just had collectible tokens of each character that allowed you to play as them
How about making it so he can play as every other buzz lightyear from the movie? There were shelves full of extra characters!
This looks absolutely amazing so far. I can't wait to see how the final product will look. Great video
This is a fantastic breakdown of a remaster. You are a scholar my friend. Please keep up the good work and thank you for your hard work.
Wow! That's a bunch of stuff that went over my head. Great work!
Great work and amazing breakdowns of each mechanic!
Thank you!
Great work! Looking forward to seeing all the wonderful things you do with this AND BEYOND!
Oh my gosh, I'm so excited about this that even my back stopped hurting after todays day at work!
I can't wait for further results, I keep my fingers crossed that the whole project will be successful!
This is such a fun and cool project! You're doing such an awesome job too. Can't wait to see it come together in the end. Keep up the stellar work man.
This was awesome man thanks for recreating one of my childhood classics
Keep at it! I know I'm not alone in wanting to play this game again. Amazing work! Being able to switch from first to third person would be a nice modern touch ;) got yourself a new sub my man
This is absolutely incredible to watch and I feel like I learned a lot in a short period of time. Thank you so much for making it.
Narrative! Love the plugin. The game looks fantastic! nice job :D
Hey D3kryption! :D Tell Ruebs that I said Narrative is great 😆 thank you for the kind words!
Man, this is the first game I ever remember, I played it multiple times. Nice work, I really want to see the future of this project. You won a sub
I'll definitely be following this. I have a similar fondness for this game--whenever I have a bad day, I boot this up and know every inch of these levels. Good luck on your journey in recreating it, I'll be cheering you on.
Thank you for the kind words :)
I'm just getting into all fo this kind of stuff for the first time myself. You;re videos are super fun to watch as I'm learning this stuff and all the basics myself. Keep up the amazing work!
Childhood memories live on.
We appreciate all the hard work! Keep it up. Can’t wait to see what more you have in store for this series
Oh no, I am early, I have to wait for the next video :D
Great stuff! Super fun to watch
Dawg u got an instant sub from me, I cant express how much I love what ur doing with this remaster, I truly hope u release this for download when its well and ready coz this game was one of my most rented video games from Blockbuster back when I was kid, this remaster is gonna stay in my head lmao
Saw your work over TikTok, I'd like to congrats on your efforts and results so far. This is one of my fav games, and was thinking to replay it anytime soon. Hope I can do it in your version
Your remake is the version I remember playing after school xD
Loving the project, cant wait to see it finished and play 😍
So glad i came across this video! this was one of my favorite games as a kid and i still love playing it now and again, looking forward to more videos, this looks amazing!
Fantastic work! Buzz finally glows in the dark 🤩 I’d lean towards no portraits in the dialogue boxes, but you can always do a test to see how it looks
Great work! Loved the progress you made and how you showcased it in the video. Keep it up!
Very cool, it’ll be exciting to follow along this journey of yours!
YESSSS!!!! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REMAKE!!!
Great job!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
This game was my childhood and I always get emotional playing it, reminiscing about the memories. Thank you so much for making this video, it awakened the inner child in me again ❤️
Wow incredible stuff man, randomly came across your channel and i'm hyped! Excited to see what you do!
Super cool seeing this. Can't wait to hear Rex scream BAHZZZ when you get even remotely close to him
This was my absolute favorite game as a kid! cant wait to play this remake, it looks sick so far!
This is awesome man! I loved this game as a kid its cool to see you remaking it!
So many memories... So many hours of my childhood. Im so happy i came across this video 🙌🏻
This was my favourite game as a kid. Not for the Toy Story universe but for the platforming and puzzles. There was so much to see and do.
Amazing work! Can't wait to see the next update!
This is Quality Content!!
First time seeing you, but keep going with the great work, amazing seriously.
Putting the trello board in the description is genius, kudos, great video
That looks amazing ! cant wait for new videos !
Played the hell out of this game with my friends back on the PSOne days! Cheers from Brazil, keep up the good work!
Man I really appreciate the effort you've put into this because this is phenomenally impressive, it's fantastic work what you've done
Brilliant! I remember playing the old game for the first toy story and this hit me with that nostalgia.
I played tens of hours of this game on a shitty work laptop as a child. Thanks a lot for recreating this game
This was my favorite game as a kid. Please complete the project and let the people play it. Keep up to work!
i remember having the PC version, this was a great game! glad i found your channel. good luck with the development!
This video is so cool. I have absolutely no clue how to do any of this, but you explain it in a way that I can understand it. I absolutely adored this game as a kid so to see this is so cool. Looking forward to more and keep up the great work!
Thank you for the kind words :) Also, I really enjoyed your Planet of the Apes video. I'm a big fan of that franchise actually lol
@@Level_reDesign Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Hoping for the best out of Kingdom!
This was one of my favorite games and now you made it even better!
Dude this is amazing!!! This is one of my favorite games of all time and a huge piece of my childhood. You clearly love this game as much as i. I trust your creative changes. Do the big head speech bubbles if ya want! I hope to be able to play it one day when you're done. This makes me so excited! ❤
this was one of my favorite games as a child. Holy W of a youtube recommendation, will be following too see how this project goes
On the cusp of my 32nd birthday. Seeing this brings me joy. I've been wanting to see a lot of my favourite games from when I was a kid updated lately because most of the games coming out these days don't seem that interesting to me.
Can't wait to see your progress!
Man what a nostalgia bomb. I loved this game as a kid. Good luck dude!
To this day, this remains one of my favorite games of all time. This was my banjo kazooie, dangit! Super cool to see this project, and can't wait to see what you've got in store.
Great vid! Excited to see how this turns out!!
Loved the game, this is looking amazing, can't wait to see more!
Two days ago I had this idea, with everyone remaking old games, I just tought remaking this could be awesome, and here we are, somebody did it, looks great man
it's weird I just recently played and finished the entire game 100% because as a kid it was just super hard now one day one more time will get to play this masterpiece childhood game keep it up !
I just got recommended your video via RUclips feed. And I am so glad, such a great idea. Subbed and liked
RUclips recommended this to me, it's like it knew this was my favourite game growing up and that I dream of a remake!
Anyway needless to say I just subscribed and will look forward to more! Don't know if this could ever be playable for anyone else but even if there was just a play through I could watch that would make me so nostalgic for this game ❤
Well, this just took m back to my childhood. This is amazing, thank you!
I was thinking about trying to do this but im not confident enough yet. Im so glad someone else is. This game is terribly underrated.
Awesome work; can't wait to see this continue.
This was my very first game. This sounds and looks awesome! Good luck!
I loved this game so much. Keep up the good work!
Awesome work! This game was my childhood. Glad to see it getting some much needed attention
Damn, no joke this is one the best ps1 games out there. Looking forward to updates...The game and the OST def deserve the remake! Great job.
This is one of my childhood games! So many games out there needs a remake, and I wish you luck on this project.
If music also gets changed, I hope it still resembles the original but as awesome! Quite excited for this!!
I have the original music for the game downloaded to put in the game, but I may change the track from the original music in the 1st level to a different level's song. I think it is one of the weaker songs in the game funny enough even though it is the best level lol
@@Level_reDesign Fair enough, haha. With it being the first level, not long after Woody gets kidnapped, maybe a mix between worry and rescue like theme music could work sort of?
I'm not good with ideas myself, but I look forward to how it turns out regardless. (:
Also, don't worry about forgetting the spin attack. It took me 12 years to figure out Zurg's weakness, being the first boss that's immune to lasers. XD
This man outstanding dedication makes a fully grown man cry, keep up the good work brother!
OMG THIS IS GREAT!!! I love this game so much
Amazing work, I tried to do remake of this game as well, I managed to get Buzz working and finished Andys room in unreal 4, but then I went onto another project sadly, Im so glad someone else remembers this amazing game and is fully remaking the first level so thank you so much for making this 🙂
I get the desire for working on new projects for sure! lol But unless Disney reaches out mad that I am making this project, I 100% guarantee that I am at least doing the first level. haha
Good luck with this project man, hell yeah
Subbing because i can't wait to see if this gets finished
This is dope! Persona styled dialogue seems like a cool feature to me.
DAMN, great shit. Hope to see more soon!
Dude. Awesome! You’re remaking one of my favorite ps1 games. Subscribed ❤
Awesome, man! Made me wanna replay Toy Story 2 but with your build.
Im very surprised no one has tried to do this yet! I grew up playing this game and i loved it and i bought it and played through it again on the ps5 and thought to myself how cool it would be if it got remade! Obviously you probably wont release this when its all done for reasons and thats fine, its just neat seeing you go for the challenge and remaking one of my favorite childhood ganes!
Your channel is about to blow up with subs and views after this video, honestly this game is so nostalgic for me and many more, loved it so much growing up.
I already consider this "blowing up" lol. I expected like 2 thousand views...not 130,000 lol. This month, I have gained 150k views so far, and over 4k subs. It is crazy haha
@@Level_reDesign not sure the legal side of this but I’d happily pay money to get a copy of the finished product , genuinely 🙏🏻
Dude, this is beyond awesome! bringing back my chilhood in HD!
Jesus man! This is fantastic stuff
This is so amazing to see! I have always wanted a modern version of this game. My mom gave it to me when for my birthday so I have always cherished it. The glowing you added is actually really cool and I didn't know I would have loved to see that! Well done with that! If I could ask for anything with this project, I would really appreciate the option to switch the boss themes for the Bombs Away and Slime Time fights. For some reason the n64 version of the game swapped the themes and I think they actually fit better like that xD I will look forward to seeing how you progress this in the future. I wish you all the luck with it c:
I was playing this game a few weeks ago and I was thinking how cool a remake would be, I even though of doing it myself, I just never had the will to even start it, much less the knowledge, I'm so happy seeing someone doing it
Toy Story 2 is one of my absolute favorite movies and games. Beyond excited to see how this progresses, dude, keep up the good work! Also make sure to take plenty of breaks if you need them, burnout sucks.
You’ve earned a new subscriber. Can’t wait too see how this goes.
Love this game and LOVE this project! A true work of art.
Keep up the good work! ❤
