Super helpful tutorial/guide, I'm just starting out w/ modding ER - not just using other people's mods, but making my own - and it was a huge help. I do have a few quick questions. 1- Just to make sure I'm understanding how the two methods work. UXM is altering the actual game files, while ME2 is more or less reading the game files (and presumably whatever changes there are in those base game files?) and temporarily having the content of its folders overwrite or supersede the game's original files? Simply deleting the mods from ME2 will return the game back to normal, while you have to restore the original files with UXM to revert changes (though, it looks like the program is doing that for you with a button click?)? 2- Since I'm aiming to make my own mods along with using other folks, is one method (UXM vs ME2) more suited to that than the other? If there's no significant difference and either would work for my purposes, that leads me to question 3... 3- Can UXM and Mod Engine 2 be used interchangeably without issue? By that, let's say I start the game using the Offline Launcher instead of through ME2. Will the mods contained in ME2 still load/work? And vice-versa, if I load through ME2 will the mods made by altering the actual game files still load? I feel like the latter should work since it's temporarily telling the game to change these specific things, but the former wouldn't since there's nothing there to overwrite it? If they *can* be used interchangeably/together, how are conflicts handled - one taking precedence over the other, or just crashing, etc? 4- If they *aren't* interchangeable/work together - then effectively I can have two modded 'versions' ? Let's say I change an armor set via ME2, and then leave it vanilla in the actual game files, and in the actual game files I change a shield, but leave it vanilla in ME2. When I start via the Offline Launcher, the vanilla armor is there along with the modded shield; but when I launch through ME, would the armor I modded in ME2 be there, *along with* the shield I modded in the game files, since ME2 doesn't have any files in its folders to overwrite it with? I apologize for all the questions & their lengths and def understand if it's too much of a hassle to answer, lol - just trying to get a better understanding of things before I go tinkering too much.
1. Yeah basically with UXM you change them directly in the game file directory, while ME2 only changes them temporarily by opening its own .exe of the game and forcing the game to read the modded files instead. 2. I think there's no difference, both will work with mod that replaces in game assets, unless you make completely new assets then I don't know which method would work. 3 & 4. If you start the game with the no easy anti cheat launcher, it won't load the mods you have in ME2 mod folder, only the ones you manually changed in the game files via the UXM method. You have to run the .exe that's in that ME2 folder specifically if you want those mods to show up. So you can't run both set of mods at the same time but you can still keep them there and it won't break the game or anything. Like I always leave my mods in the ME2 folder and if I want to use them I open the game with the .exe in that folder, if not, I open the game normally. It won't have the mods, and I can play online too. ME2 is defo the easiest and best way to mod the game. It's so convenient and you don't have to restore and unpack everytime you want to play online and get rid of mods.
Thank you VERY much, i'm glad to finally see someone who explains how these works both quicly AND simply. Not sure why but absolutely every others explanations have seen where just not understandable for my tiny brain

Once you’ve learned uxm and me2, that’s the easy part. Now they need to figure out a way to merge regulation bin files more easily. I hate using yapped, always break something.
@@jasonbaxter3658 well, apart from nexus mods forum, I don't know of any. But lots of people use mods in my discord. I'm there to help and so are they, if we can.
Thanks so much for the video, it's really easy to follow and super helpful! For the UXM method, is there a way to only remove certain mods? As in if I install mod A and mod B, is it possible to remove only mod B, or are both of them clumped together now?
You can remove them individually, you just need to know what files they are. But, if it's a mod that replaces a vanilla item, then make sure you have a backup of that file or you will break your save. A lot of modders will have the original file when you download a mod.

I skipped forward in the video at just the right time for the audio to create the sentence "I've been modding PC games since the dawn of-- 2077" and I thought that was pretty funny.
what up, was hoping you could help me with a problem i have. anyways my game is cracked hope you don't mind. every time i install a mod which has a regulation.bin file, i get a "save file corrupted" error and i'm unable to get pass the main menu of the game. every time i replace the regulation.bin file with the original i don't get the error but obviously the mod doesn't work
Im not sure since your game is cracked but the corrupted save file seems to be an issue for a lot of people cracked or not, when it happened to me I had to reinstall the game.
So I'm getting back into the modding community after a long hiatus. I created several private servers for wow 3.3.5 with some heavily custom content in the past. Hi! Just in case if someone wants to use mod engine 2 with cracked version of the game simply no! It doesn’t work with it the bat file won’t lunch the game so go for UXM.
Hello. I wanted to ask some questions for some clarification as I have never tried modding a game like Elden Ring before, as I am used to using mod launchers like tModLoader (for Terraria) and Minecraft Forge. I will point out that I have not tried to start any downloads nor make an Nexus account as I preferred to be safe just in case before starting. 1. Is UXM absolutely required so files can be read for ME2 or for a different reason? If not, then should I just ignore UXM and go for ME2 immediately? 2. If I want to go back online for Vanilla, do I need to get rid of mods on ME2 to do so? I don't really see any option of removing mods besides dragging out the files. Do I also need to remove ME2 to play Vanilla as well without the threat of bans?
1. Yep! UXM and ME2 are two complete different ways to mod the game. I would honestly just use ME2. It’s quicker and much simpler. 2. If you use ME2 as long as you don’t launch the game with the ME2 launcher then you’re fine to play online by launching through the actual game icon on your desktop or through steam, the game won’t have any mods.
I'm getting a black screen before I even see the Bandai logo. I've unpacked the folder I need with UXM selective unpacker, then I threw in the mod files, patched the executible and tried to run the game in offline mode. When I restore the game it works fine, but it won't even launch with a mod installed. I'm using a pirated game copy. Would be grateful for any advice. Nvm, the problem was in that uxm tool. Just get the regular one if you encounter the same problem as me. This guide works like a charm even on the pirated version
After a bit of testing it appears that that uxm selective unpacker works fine, you just have to unpack the whole game and not the one specific folder you need for the mod. Selective unpacker can be helpful if you need to fix your exe without unpacking the whole folder another time
I'm having an error with UXM, saying the file name needs to be "DarkSoulsII.exe" to unpack. Any help? Thank you again for your support, really thankful for your work for the community. :)
Nevermind! I had renamed it previously incorrectly for a different mod method. It was named Elden_Ring instead of EldenRing. Thanks and have a good day hahaha
Hi thanks for the tutorial on how to install this, though i have one problem, after using UXM and launching it, it now says my save files are corrupted. Is there any way to fix it? thanks again
Question, I don't know if I missed a part but, what if I have a lot of mods and want them back after restoring? Do I just have to manually put them back?
If i use mod engine 2 and played with mods, then suddenly i want to play an unmodded game online again, do i just launch the game from steam and it will not run the mods i put in the mod engine 2 folder?
I tried unpacking the Elden Ring file (using UXM) but it says "Invalid executable name given ELDER RING.exe . Executable file name is expected to be darksoulsII.exe, darksoulsIII.exe, or Sekiro.exe." Not sure what is exactly the issue
@@ThatSoulsGirl i realized what was the issue. Apparently I changed the file’s name to capital letters, so i reversed it to small letters and it worked for me. Thanks regardless!
I used Mod Engine and it worked but the one thing i dont like is i cant put in multiple mods like in Mod Loader. I looked up a video that you have to merge regulation bin files and it looks too complicated for me.
great video but i got a quick question, so i followed all the instruction for UXM and it worked, but i found a new mod that i wanna use so should i unpack a second time or should i just replace the original file then patch, since i don have enough space for it to unpack again, it requires 50gb which made me assume that i don need to do it everytime?
Don’t need to unpack a second time, that’s just so you’ll be able to change the files. Once it’s done you can just add how many mods you want as long as they don’t replace the same thing.
thank you for your video! I followed all of your steps to the letter but I can't seem to get my ARO mod working - I put the files into my chr folder after unpacking and enabled toggle eac and ran start_game_in_offline and it's not working. do you have any suggestions? thank you in advance.
Wait so i dont need to do anything with the game if i use modengine 2? I dont need anti cheat toggler or anything? will it start automatically offline ?
TY I have one question tho... I restored the game but I want to play with mods again, now when ever I install the mods and click on patch the game freezes and I have to restore it twice. Is there anyway so I can install mods again?
use Mod engine 2 instead of UXM, you won't have to do any of that. ME2 opens the game without anti cheat, offline, and if you don't launch through the ME2 launcher, you can play the game regularly without having to delete your mods.
hey so i installed Me2 got a mod installed into the mods folder launched the game from the launchmod_eldenring bat file and its saying failed to save game and i cant get past that.
@@ThatSoulsGirl I couldn't figure it out just had to do a fresh install, there was a way on the mod page to uninstall it, but it didn't work for me so rip
hello, is there a way to use UXM and ModEngine2 at the same time? Or is there a way to use 2 different mods that have the exact same .dcx file name in it?
Does this still work? My game crashes when loading a save or creating a new one, I've extracted the entire game and patched with UXM. Seems straight forward to me but I can't figure out why I can't get it to load a save. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
@@ThatSoulsGirl sorry for the very late response but yes steam was open and i even turned off Microsoft virus protection but idk maybe its not meant to be lmaoo

i always make a whole new copy of the game to test it freely before i do anything to my main game in case anything broke i have been moding games as well since before dragons where there haha
@@ThatSoulsGirl Um, uninitiated plebian here & this is probably a dumb question but my paranoia about being banned requires i ask, does Mod Engine 2 have a file/program in it already that automatically disables Easy Anti-Cheat? ... as i can't seem to find that answered explicitly anywhere... X_X;
@@drakeyaeger7939 yes! It launches the game without anti cheat. in the folder you'll see Launchmod_eldenring and that's what you'll need to open the game with to see the mods. If you have mods in the mod folder, and you launch the game normally, it'll be fine because the game won't apply the mods.
@@ThatSoulsGirl tyvm kupo, needed to be 100% sure. ME2 is kinda like the FluffyManager 3000 that I use to Mod RE2 Remake, in that instead of modding files IN the game, it instead makes the game read IT'S modded files, minimizing chances for corrupted game files. 😁🤩😎
so from what ive seen here? you cant uninstall the mod manually, you have to tap restore button? and then it restore the file right? i cant understand since it replace the original file which make me scare to install this type of mod if i dont like it how it look in my game
If you use UXM to manually add the mod, using restore will restore all the original game files and remove the mod completely. If you use mod engine 2, you can leave the mods there and just launch the game with or without mods, and you can delete them and change them easily.
In this case, I wanted to add several mods, and some mods have regulation.bin, is there a way to mix or combine the two into one and use the mods I want?
Does mod engine 2 work for every mod or there are exceptions? I want to download a simple mod that removes the compass hud but the mod page only mentions UXM so I'm unsure if I can do it
I'm pretty sure it works for every mod that replaces parts in games, like armor, weapons, etc., all you need to find out is in which game folder it would go, so you can create it in the mod engine 2 mod folder. But if the mod file has parts in it then you're good.
Hey! I have a question. Is there a different process in case of a game update? I modded my game using uxm and then there was an update for elden ring. So now do I have to repeat the process?
hello ! Thank you for this video, it was really helpful ! I did the same as you did but i had an error at the end of the unpacking using uxm (maybe it's relevant) I have every folder in my game folder Then i chose the mod i wanted (the ringed knight set mod) Replaced the files in parts (I had the armor in my inventory before installing the mod) Used Uxm to patch Launch the game with the offline launcher (anti cheat disabled) And the armor is the same as the original one, no changing at all, i don't get it Can you help please ?
keep getting Catastrophic failure when trying to unpack. Anyone know what is happening? side note is that i do have seamless coop installed, could this be the issue and how can i remedy this?
@@ThatSoulsGirl I thought so but I went through Steam and used “browse local files” option and followed the path, and it didn’t work. Hey, so I have the cracked version of the game and I was wondering if I can try to use the uxm while using the wemod trainer and also, if this will revert all my progress since i'm now on New Game+
Hello, I want to mod Elden Ring. To do this should I unpack Elden Ring with UXM, change the files and then can I put the changed files in Mod Engine 2?
No, UXM and mod engine 2 are two different programs that let you mod the game you have to choose one. Mod engine 2 is way simpler, especially for beginners, so I would personally use that. If you want a full guide on ME2 I have recently made one that's a bit more complete on my channel (it has a ranni thumbnail).

If i use mod engine 2 and played with mods, then suddenly i want to play an unmodded game online again, do i just launch the game from steam and it will not run the mods i put in the mod engine 2 folder?
yes, as long as you don't launch with the launcher in the mod engine folder, it won't launch with mods.
@@ThatSoulsGirl thank you :D
I tried unpacking the Elden Ring file (using UXM) but it says "Invalid executable name given ELDER RING.exe . Executable file name is expected to be darksoulsII.exe, darksoulsIII.exe, or Sekiro.exe." Not sure what is exactly the issue
I think the path you're giving it is just not in the folder where the Elden Ring .exe is.
@@ThatSoulsGirl i realized what was the issue. Apparently I changed the file’s name to capital letters, so i reversed it to small letters and it worked for me. Thanks regardless!
@@faisalthefenrir8359 oh man, such a little thing! Thanks for the info though and glad you fixed it.
Do i have to remove the mods from ModEngine2 before i launch the game regularly to not get banned?
nope! don't need to. That's the beauty of ME2
Muchas gracias!!!! Thanks a lot
I used Mod Engine and it worked but the one thing i dont like is i cant put in multiple mods like in Mod Loader. I looked up a video that you have to merge regulation bin files and it looks too complicated for me.
yeah the only way it so merge regulation.bin files, I will make a hopefully easy to follow video on how to do that very soon!
great video but i got a quick question, so i followed all the instruction for UXM and it worked, but i found a new mod that i wanna use so should i unpack a second time or should i just replace the original file then patch, since i don have enough space for it to unpack again, it requires 50gb which made me assume that i don need to do it everytime?
Don’t need to unpack a second time, that’s just so you’ll be able to change the files. Once it’s done you can just add how many mods you want as long as they don’t replace the same thing.
@@ThatSoulsGirl thank you so much!
@@ThatSoulsGirl so after adds for second time after add files do i need to click patch? or just add files and good to go?
@@talkbigdosmall3192 no patch is just once
thank you for your video! I followed all of your steps to the letter but I can't seem to get my ARO mod working - I put the files into my chr folder after unpacking and enabled toggle eac and ran start_game_in_offline and it's not working. do you have any suggestions? thank you in advance.
The update might have broken the mod check the posts and comments on the mod page.
Wait. At the end of your video, are you saying "MODS" can only be applied "IF" you wearing the armour or sword? If it true thats explain a lot to me.
Some mods will require you to wear certain pieces of armor from the base game that have been modified to have the new visual or look.
Wait so i dont need to do anything with the game if i use modengine 2? I dont need anti cheat toggler or anything? will it start automatically offline ?
Yes and yes!
TY
I have one question tho...
Yeah people have issues with that but it never encountered that issue. People are saying to verify game files in steam or restart the PC. Or do both.
@@ThatSoulsGirl xD as soon as i sent that comment all I did was launch the game through steam exit then just launched it through the me2 bat file.
hi, im triying to use ME2, i bought ER on steam but for some reason ME launcher doesnt work. do u know how can i fix this?? thx!
How do I uninstall uxm and the Elden Ring randomizer, thought I would ask here because I couldn't find an answer anywhere else
hope someone can help, I haven't used this mod yet.
@@ThatSoulsGirl I couldn't figure it out just had to do a fresh install, there was a way on the mod page to uninstall it, but it didn't work for me so rip
hello, is there a way to use UXM and ModEngine2 at the same time?
Or is there a way to use 2 different mods that have the exact same .dcx file name in it?
you can only use one method
😭😭😭 I been trying everything and is not working for me idk what I’m doing wrong help please
Which one are you trying to use (UXM or mod engine 2), and what mod?
Now we just need Something along the lines of dsfix
Does this still work?
My game crashes when loading a save or creating a new one,
I've extracted the entire game and patched with UXM. Seems straight forward to me but I can't figure out why I can't get it to load a save.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Needs more likes
Thanks!
my modded ring won’t open and i followed all the steps??
It also will not launch with mod engine and i literally did everything step by step
Thats odd, and you’re certain that steam is open?
@@ThatSoulsGirl sorry for the very late response but yes steam was open and i even turned off Microsoft virus protection but idk maybe its not meant to be lmaoo
In the UXM option, where did the MODDED RING.exe came from?
It’s not from UXM it’s form easy anti cheat toggler and offline launcher mod that I talk about. You make a shortcut with it.
sister when i click on launch mod elden ring .bat
it doesnt work and didnt launched elden ring with mod
how can i fix this ??
Are the mods in the mod folder? And then are they in their respective folder like parts, char, etc? And make sure your steam is open.
@@ThatSoulsGirl sister i have cracked verson
can u make a video about the launchmod elden ring .bat it doesnt on my crack ver 1.02 and i cant update the game cuz the internet is very very slow here in iraq i hope u understand
i have the cracked vrs of the game ... i did the unpack then the replace ..... patch
i entred the game and nothing changed ataall no new weapons (am new in the game but i done think it matter right!)
What mods did you get to install?
@@ThatSoulsGirl weapons (voertex and fewvst stuf
When I run the game the mods are not there even I have checked the twin maiden husks store do you have a solution
what mods? every mod is different with how they add items to the game.
i always make a whole new copy of the game to test it freely before i do anything to my main game in case anything broke i have been moding games as well since before dragons where there haha
bro, thanks bro, thanks, just, thanks...
If I wanted to play online again, would re-enabling EAC simply disable my cosmetic parts mods? Or will I need to verify all the game files again?
Yeah with UXM you’d have to do the unpacking process all over again.
@@ThatSoulsGirl Um, uninitiated plebian here & this is probably a dumb question but my paranoia about being banned requires i ask, does Mod Engine 2 have a file/program in it already that automatically disables Easy Anti-Cheat? ... as i can't seem to find that answered explicitly anywhere... X_X;
😁🤩😎
can you help me mine says could not find a part of the path ( i cant unpack it)
Did you extract the zip fil on your desktop before running it? If that doesn’t work just use ME2.
Question can u play the game (offline) while unpacking or can u get banned?
offline is fine
so from what ive seen here? you cant uninstall the mod manually, you have to tap restore button? and then it restore the file right? i cant understand since it replace the original file which make me scare to install this type of mod if i dont like it how it look in my game
If you use UXM to manually add the mod, using restore will restore all the original game files and remove the mod completely.
If you use mod engine 2, you can leave the mods there and just launch the game with or without mods, and you can delete them and change them easily.
@@ThatSoulsGirl i see, thank you
In this case, I wanted to add several mods, and some mods have regulation.bin, is there a way to mix or combine the two into one and use the mods I want?
yes you need a program to merge .bin files
there's an error message at the end of patching of UXM saying about access to the .exe. file can you tell me how to fix this
Hi I still can't find the Vader mod and i followed all your steps. It's not appearing in game
check the mod page maybe it hasn't been updated for the new patch.
Thank you... i stupidly installed mod engine 2 and uxm when all i needed was me2
rip!
When i unpack it fails to unpack what do i do?
Does mod engine 2 work for every mod or there are exceptions? I want to download a simple mod that removes the compass hud but the mod page only mentions UXM so I'm unsure if I can do it
I'm pretty sure it works for every mod that replaces parts in games, like armor, weapons, etc., all you need to find out is in which game folder it would go, so you can create it in the mod engine 2 mod folder. But if the mod file has parts in it then you're good.
So when I use modengine2 and open the game in Steam the mods are not active and I can play online normally?
Yep!
Hey! I have a question. Is there a different process in case of a game update? I modded my game using uxm and then there was an update for elden ring. So now do I have to repeat the process?
Nope! You shouldn’t have to.
@@ThatSoulsGirl Ah okay, thanks
hello ! Thank you for this video, it was really helpful !
I did the same as you did but i had an error at the end of the unpacking using uxm (maybe it's relevant)
I have every folder in my game folder
Then i chose the mod i wanted (the ringed knight set mod)
Replaced the files in parts
(I had the armor in my inventory before installing the mod)
Used Uxm to patch
Launch the game with the offline launcher (anti cheat disabled)
And the armor is the same as the original one, no changing at all, i don't get it
Can you help please ?
Try using mod engine 2 instead then it’s more simple
@@ThatSoulsGirl ok i'll try ! Thanks for the answer 😊
Edit : using mode engine 2 and it works like a charm ! thanks a lot :D
hey is the anti cheat toggler compulsary for cracked version of the game?
yes you need it
do you have a video of how to use Yapped?
I don't know, I need to figure out how to do it myself and eventually I will make one!
@@ThatSoulsGirl i Understand, thanks for your time anyway!
is it needed for patching after unpacking elden ring? i need that answer, thanks
patch after adding all the mods you want before starting the game
keep getting Catastrophic failure when trying to unpack. Anyone know what is happening? side note is that i do have seamless coop installed, could this be the issue and how can i remedy this?
hopefully someone can help, but maybe the path you chose to unpack is not the correct folder where the game .exe is located?
@@ThatSoulsGirl I thought so but I went through Steam and used “browse local files” option and followed the path, and it didn’t work. Your video was great and helpful, im just thinking seamless coop replaced my previous save files for ER and that’s my issue. Thank you for replying so quickly though👌🏼
Ohhh maybe yeah. Check on the mod page maybe people have a fix for it.
@@ThatSoulsGirl will do, thanks!
Hey, so I have the cracked version of the game and I was wondering if I can try to use the uxm while using the wemod trainer and also, if this will revert all my progress since i'm now on New Game+
I have no idea what wemod is, but I guess as long as there's no conflict it should work.
I launched the modded Elden Ring but nothing was showing, i put all the files in the mod folder
Did you make a parts folder to put the files in, inside the mod folder?
@@ThatSoulsGirl I actually didn't, thank you so much
@@guywithjob7046 no problem! that should fix it.
im using the cracked version
i unpacked the game as shown in the video then replaced old files with new modded ones then repatched but there is no change
the mod loader for uxm does not launch when i click on it it DOES not launch before it did this it would start and instantly crashed ive been at this for way to long
what exactly did you do, step by step?
Can i mod multiple combat overhaul mods? Ex: Berserker Move and Carian?
Not if they both use the regulation.bin file. Unless you want to use a program to merge the files yourself
