Since Covid started, I've been feeding my local crow family every day in my back yard. I call them by saying, "Hello crow! Hello crow!" I didn't even know they can mimic the sound. They do talk to both of us, and they sit on the wire to peer in my study window, but now I'll have to listen more carefully to what sounds they're making.
@@CharlotteIssyvoo Wonderful, I read that you have to feed crows 3 times until they recognize your face.... I feed crows in a park and go there only once or twice a week. There is a group of about 100 nonbreeders (mostly juvenile crows) which I 'observe'. In the beginning I wasn't sure wheter the crows recognize (and react to) me or not. I was close to give up, when I realized that the birds followed me (from tree to tree) whenever I walked around in the park. Now they also jump and fly next to me. At home I have magpies in the garden and I trained a juvenile magpie to come if I call her. But magpies are much much shier then crows, she's still easily scared and and so far I couldn't film her.
@@crowwhisperer My crows are not shy. They come when I call them. They'll come to the balcony and join me for their snack, though they're more leery of my husband. They play peekaboo with me too. When I go out (not much because of Covid), I do think some of the crows on my route know me now too, because I give them peanuts.

All corvids can mimic if they learned it at an early age, when they were handraised...
@@crowwhisperer We've now had two young ones coming since the first fledged in August. They know us well, but we didn't hand raise them, of course.
