OH MY! I just got my Arabie decant. LOVE! Waiting for drydown... Oh man. I smell soooo GOOOOD!! Maybe a far away hint of cumin. Growl yum sweetness. Dried fruit, date, fig, a mild benzoin purr. (I really want to try Cuir Mauresque, and of course every other single one you mentioned here, but especially Chergui.)
I’ve got my fav’s...never felt like adventuring out till someone gave a bottle of eau de soir which I can’t get enough of. Watching tour videos...I’m trying everything. What a wonderful part of our lives perfume is. Thank you!!!
What a lovely post; thank you. Are you speaking of the Sisley scent (Eau de Soir)? One of my favorite RUclips-ers, Deborah Day, raves about this, too, and I have been meaning to try it! Sounds wonderful. All the best to you!
thank you for this video-i appreciate hearing your personal histories and connecting it with perfume. as for lutens, i have tried several but the only one i own is a partial bottle of a la nuit, which i found on mercari recently. sadly it's discontinued, but it's one of the most beautiful jasmine soliflores i have ever experienced. i find some of his perfumes very challenging and not super wearable but that's what makes them interesting to me. one that haunts me is rose de nuit. i had the strangest reaction when i tried it several years ago, kind of disturbed by it but also really drawn to it. i think i read the inspiration for it was vampires which makes total sense! i like chergui too but sold my bottle because it wasn't getting enough love from me. others i personally enjoyed are: tuberueuse criminelle, santal majascule, cedre, de profundis, and five o' clock au gingembre. beyond that, i just find this house super interesting to try, whether i personally end up liking them or not.
Thank you for providing the names/ideas re: those you find interesting! Even though I’ve only experienced a few, I can tell they are all very interesting, if not works of art... and like you mention, no matter how “easy” or wearable each might be. I think it’s so exciting when noses + scents challenge us! Thanks for your lovely + interesting post!
@@savorsalvagescent2300 yes, they are works of art-that's exactly how i felt about rose de nuit. and correcting myself, a la nuit is still available but now in the bell jar. i guess it was the (less expensive) rectangular bottles that were discontinued.
I'd like to try Chergui. I have Un Bois Vanille..its a beautiful vanilla and black licorice, and Santal Majescule a super smooth incense rose💕 Thank you for sharing the perfumer's background. Seems all great artist's must carry such stories..the caged bird's song the sweetest
Wow, what a beautiful post. While I don’t wish struggle on anyone, those who have overcome it often become diamonds. After I made this post, I was lucky to buy a set of 10 Lutens samples. Un Bois Vanille was the one I couldn’t live without and had to buy. I am enjoying it so much because I am crazy about licorice. I also loved Rose Majeste, but it is so cost prohibitive. I did not try Santal Majescule so will look for it. Thanks, Candy!!
My Dad was a Complicated person with unique tastes. Besides his 9000+ library of books including rare 1st edition vintage and antique books, one of his interests was unusual/rare fragrances. Two of which were, according to him fragrances commissioned by Napoléon Bonaparte from Francois Rancé before his coronation in 1804 for himself and Joséphine with the instructions that they would not be released until 200 years after the coronation. Before he passed away, he gave me a partial bottle of Arabie and it quickly became one of my favorites and I have only a few applications left, so I will need to get a new bottle. Arabie sort of reminds me of one of my Father's other colognes, Elsha, although Arabie is more spicy and a bit more top-shelf. The scent of either one of them, reminds me of him! :)
Jason, thank you so much for sharing your story (and your father’s). I feel like perfume was long overlooked as a true artform so your dad was far ahead of the curve. How fascinating he collected such rarities. And that one smelled kind of like Arabie (which I think is marvelous). I really enjoyed reading your post; thank you. Hope you stay in touch.
Looking for reviews of the Shiseido version of Arabie compared to the newer version of Arabie. If you can get you hands on a sample of the La Proie Pour L'ombre, a new fragrance, highly recommend!
That saying choked me up. Childhood neglect leaves a mark. But also I teared up over the fact that he gives so much beauty to the world. Astonishing, really.
ack, now I wish I had sent 2 of the ones on your wishlist that I have. alas...... 'solitude has hard teeth'. you had me nearly in tears....storytelling is your calling.
Ambre sultan i still cannot get my hands on. It is always out of stock... so i am kinda taking it as a sign that i have to wait (?) the bay leaf note though i am not really sure ...
Dear Paola- Hope you are well. I am not sure if you have access to fragrancenet but they have a decent discount price for Ambre Sultan right now. I would say you must like a very dry amber but maybe try a decant first, if you can get your hands on one. XO.
Oh yay! A new video! I liked immediately, but haven’t watched yet.

Datura noir has been on my list for a while. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet 😁. Great video!

Hello Amy. Love the lipstick. Here watching
Thank you for the kind words. I see you have a channel + just subscribed. Excited to listen! Best to you.
Such an interesting story behind the brand and the creator... I’m still in the lookout for “my” SL, but hopefully one day!

If you love white florals, A la nuit is the one and only jasmine for me! (harder to get full bottles now though)

Kelly, this was my wishlist before you sent the decants! I am so grateful to you! Thank you for the kind feedback, too.
I gave in and bought a loot from SL last November and December... but i agree that they need time to be experienced...
I think trying these out will go on my “list” once I get through what I have. :)
Tfs I just got my first Serge Lutens in December I love it it's Bapteme Du Feu
