      Feral swine can be eaten, but it is very important to thoroughly cook wild pork to 165 degrees. Most feral pigs harvested by JAGER PRO™ Hog Control Operators™ are either processed by guests or donated to local families and churches for food. Any carcasses NOT used for food are buried per Department of Agriculture regulations.

    Out of curiosity.. would it have been better to erect the trap first and have baiting outside the trap.. this would eliminate the need to "change things" after they were comfortable outside the trap and around it.
    Your thoughts

    • @JAGERPRO
      @JAGERPRO  6 лет назад +12

      Great question. We earn our living performing feral pig control and must make performance-based decisions based on process and product efficiency. Wasting time is wasting money and an inefficient business will eventually go bankrupt. It only takes five minutes of labor to erect a feeder along with our cellular I.C.E.™ Camera. Strategically, we place feeders at least 300 acres apart to ensure multiple home ranges are targeted which helps identify the total number of sounders on a property or discover pigs have moved to another property. The feeder's digital timer dispenses the same amount of bait at the exact same time every day. Allow the automatic feeders and cellular cameras to perform all the labor during the conditioning process. The most accurate camera surveys for population assessment occur when pigs are conditioned to initially trust a feeder without a trap enclosure present.
      Building a random sized trap without knowing the number of pigs in the sounder is a costly mistake. What if a 15-foot diameter trap enclosure was built but there are 30+ pigs in the sounder? (1) You waste more time building a larger trap or (2) You educate more pigs than you capture using the smaller trap as any pigs outside the trap when gates are triggered will learn from the experience and become "trap resistant" to the process. Whole-sounder lethal control prevents any pig from surviving, reproducing or being educated to the removal process. Lastly, shooting would be more efficient than trapping if the camera survey only reveals one or two pigs. These are the many reasons why professionals conduct a camera survey first at a bait site then adapt the trap enclosure to the sounder population expending the least amount of fuel, time and labor to accomplish whole-sounder capture success.

    • @JAGERPRO
      @JAGERPRO  5 лет назад

      @Chew Chew Train - A "sounder" is a matriarchal family group of feral pigs consisting of adult sows (females) typically related via two or three generations and includes their piglets. A sounder of wild pigs is like a herd of cattle, a school of fish, a gaggle of geese or a murder of crows.

      The US Department of Agriculture does not allow wild pork donations directly to food banks (federal regulation) due to swine brucellosis and pseudorabies. This is why it is very important to cook wild pork to 160 degrees before eating. Most of our hogs are processed by guest hunters or donated to local families and churches.

      @Draggy654 No worries man but maybe i cant understand that pigs can be infestation and cant compare them with rats . As i said im professional hunter and member of a hunting club and i consider them game so this ways of dealing with overpopulation seem to me very cruel. But as i said on other comment thread id deal with them in some different way like selling and domesticating the hogs making them farm animals or something like that. I' ve personaly raised wild pigglets that we found alone with dead mothers. Even when one of my hunters killed few sows by mistake by not recognizing that they are nursing pigglets and when there were actions of controling the overpopultion of them, cause many people(farmers) will kill wolves that are natural enemies of wild hogs and our law punishes them very harshly but even than some wont stop doing that.. litteraly dudes come out of jail and do the same thing(if tou commit poachery you end up in 6 months minimum in jail).

      It only takes 15-18 months for a trained and certified Hog Control Operator™ to eliminate feral pig populations from 10,000-acres. But there are several factors which determine how long a property remains at "zero balance" after a successful Integrated Wild Pig Control® (IWPC®) program has been implemented. Future reproduction and migration would have to come from adjacent properties since an effective IWPC® program would prevent escapes, method education and reproduction from the entire generation of feral pigs living on the property.
      Are neighboring landowners implementing a successful IWPC® program?
      Are there enough trained and certified Hog Control Operators™ in the county to effectively implement the IWPC® program?
      Has the state passed legislation to stop intrastate and interstate transportation of feral pigs?
      How well are law enforcement personnel enforcing these rules in the state?
      Are judges and the court system prosecuting those breaking the rules with heavy fines?
      How many criminals are illegally transporting and releasing new feral pig populations in the county?
      The amount of time a property remains at "zero balance" greatly depends on the answers to the above questions.

It is NOT legal to transport a feral pig alive from the property in which it was trapped which makes it illegal in our state to sell pigs alive or transport them to a meat market without a special feral swine permit along with a a swine brucellosis and pseudorabies test. In our opinion, legislation should be passed in all states to stop intrastate transportation of feral pigs to stock hunting preserves, bay pens and holding facilities with heavy fines to those breaking the law.

      MetusBatmanV4 Our company performs feral swine control for a living and harvest 4,000+ annually. It is illegal to "sell" wild pigs in Georgia for human consumption and the US Department of Agriculture does not allow wild pork donations directly to food banks due to swine brucellosis and pseudorabies. However, this does not mean wild pork cannot be eaten. It is fantastic table fare, but very important to thoroughly cook wild pork to 165 degrees. To answer your concern, the feral pigs JAGER PRO harvests are processed by guest hunters or donated to local families and churches for food. Feral pigs are known carriers of at least 45 different parasites (external and internal) and diseases (bacterial and viral) that pose a threat to domestic livestock, pets, wildlife and human health. The threat of disease transmission from feral pigs to domestic livestock is a major concern to the farming industry. Several of these diseases are swine specific (both feral and domestic) but others can affect cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, horses and several species of native wild mammals. Infectious diseases that are significant to livestock include Pseudorabies Virus (PRV), Swine brucellosis (Brucella suis), Bovine tuberculosis (TB), Foot & Mouth Disease, African swine fever and Classical swine fever (Hog Cholera). Zoonotic diseases transmissible by feral pigs to humans include Leptospirosis, Brucellosis, E. coli, Salmonellosis, Toxoplasmosis, Rabies, Swine Influenza viruses, Trichinosis, Giardiasis and Cryptosporidiosis.

      Blame those few men that thought it a great idea to start planting this destructive beasts in strategic locations across the country.
      They have been around for centuries, but in the last 25 years they have been purposely planted in many previously low hog areas of the country causing their populations to skyrocket in those area, where native wildlife has zero chance of competing with them.

    What do you do with the pig carcasses ?

    • @JAGERPRO
      @JAGERPRO  4 года назад

      Pigs are killed inside the trap enclosure because it is illegal in most states to transport feral swine alive or sell the meat. The US Department of Agriculture does not allow wild pork donations directly to food banks due to swine brucellosis and the pseudorabies virus. Feral swine can be eaten, but it is very important to thoroughly cook wild pork to 165 degrees. Most feral pigs harvested by JAGER PRO™ Hog Control Operators™ are either processed by guests or donated to local families and churches for food. However, there is another perspective to consider. Mission success is based solely on removing the entire sounder from each property since whole-sounder lethal control prevents any pig from escaping, surviving, reproducing or being educated to the removal process. Whether a non-native, agricultural pest is eaten or not has no value in the "damage management" decision-making process. Just as removing all termites, rats and cockroaches from your home to stop future residential damage is more important than ensuring all captured pests are eaten. Insect versus mammal makes no difference to the legal definition of a pest or the Best Management Practices needed to control them. The total number of wild pigs we successfully donate has no bearing on the number of animals we must euthanize. The United States cannot BBQ our way out of the feral swine problem. Any carcasses NOT used for food are buried per Department of Agriculture regulations.

    This might b a dumb question but we don't have hogs in New York yet. When you say sounder does that mean the lead hog?

    • @JAGERPRO
      @JAGERPRO  6 лет назад

      A "sounder" is a matriarchal family group of feral pigs consisting of adult sows (females) typically related via two or three generations and includes their piglets. A sounder of wild pigs is like a herd of cattle, a school of fish, a flock of geese or a murder of crows. Correcting your statement - feral swine were first found in New York State in 2008. According to a 2012 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) report, feral swine established four separate breeding populations in the state spanning six counties: Delaware, Sullivan, Onandaga, Tioga, Cortland and Clinton. Most of the state's feral pigs and their breeding populations were located next to enclosed private hunting facilities where pigs were raised for hunting purposes. In October 2013, it became illegal to import, breed or release Eurasian boar in New York. A statewide ban on the hunting and trapping of feral swine went into effect in April of 2014 imposed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to stop illegal transportation and release of feral pigs for hunting purposes. To our knowledge, USDA Wildlife Services was successful eliminating the established populations in all six counties and has did not detected any feral swine in New York since 2015 or 2016.

    what keeps more pigs from coming to the area. we have 800 acres in east texas and we are prevented from planting for obvious reasons. we have 30 x 30 traps we feed deer. is there any reason we cannot put a door on these traps and use the existing traps.
