Frederick Douglass published his highly acclaimed third autobiography, Life and Times of Frederick Douglass, in 1881 and revised it in 1892. The emancipation of American slaves during and following the American Civil War enabled him to relate in this volume more details of his life as a slave and his escape from slavery than he could in his two previous autobiographies, which would have put him and his family in danger. It is the only Douglass autobiography to discuss his life during and after the Civil War, his encounters with several American presidents including Lincoln and Garfield, his account of the ill-fated 'Freedman's Bank', and his service as the United States Marshall of the District of Columbia and as U. S. Minister to Haiti. This masterfully written book is all the more remarkable because it is the product of one who as a slave was denied the right to any schooling. ~ Adapted from Wikipedia by Lee Smalley

He visited me in my living room last night. First a mist that turned to a spark that vanished. I guess he felt sorry for me crying so much over it. Imagine judgement day when he finally comes back to judge them violent abusers. He's a saint now.

One baffling thing I'll never understand about Frederick Douglas is how could he end up marrying a white woman? Imagine the many women of his own kind available to love and cherish him. He could have changed her socioeconomic situation and that of their children instead of handing his wealth to the very ones who inflicted centuries of pain on a people. That's why I'm not a fan nor interested in hearing hours of his bio knowing how it ends - with him marrying the oppressor after witnessing first hand the atrocities committed by her kind. Makes no sense to me. The irony, sort of makes me wonder if he had a hidden agenda. And considering the times, how come he wasn't lynched? Well, I'm marking this one as "Not Interested".
Just being honest. Just stating the obvious.
