Coming from Malacca, I'm so happy that you guys loved Asam Pedas Ikan Pari (the stingray)! It's a popular, regional dish here, and my mom makes that every once in a while if she happens to see stingrays on sale at our local supermarket. Stingray is definitely my favorite, but Asam Pedas can also be cooked with seabass (most popular in restaurants), mackerels (cheaper fish option), and beef (less common but still delicious). I remember studying in Penang and people would often ask me "where do you eat the best Asam Pedas in Melaka" when they find out where I'm from, and I'd bluntly respond "I don't know. I always eat it at home". They're envious as hell 🤣
Haha pineapple curry, its like the fusion of Hawaiian + indian. The pickled bamboo shoots are great on salads too. Normally served in chinese resto as soup or stir fried mixed veggies.
Editor gempak best, terima kasih sarikata yang kelakar dan terima kasih sebut nama lauk dengan betul❤. it is NANAS ,which is often wrongly pronounce as NENAS among malaysian..
I'm just amazed no-one commented on the -stench- smell of the rebung.. I don't eat it because it reminds me of public loos 😅.. maybe they cooked the smell out of the dish? Anyway, alang2 kan you guys challenging them to kampung dishes, should have gotten them to eat with hands exclusively like kampung people.. why the fork and spoon?
Try fresh rebung. it is not smelly at all and the taste is better. I thought rebung is smelly too but now I know the smelly one is the fermented bamboo shoot. The fresh one taste better.
Since Alana now got engaged to a Kelantanese guy, so next time she might repeat Ikan Singgang & Nasi Ulam dish at Nasi Ulam Cikgu in Kota Bharu. Quite famous among Kelantanese.
