I have never stopped a video mid viewing to leave a comment. That component drop was the best thing ever. I was laughing harder than was social acceptable.
Very, very nice review of the new release of Merchant of Venus. You have answered all of the questions and addressed all of the concerns I had about this new release. In a word...Outstanding! Thank you for a most enjoyable and informative review!
Excellent, excellent review, Eric! I know I have seen this video a year or saw ago but for some reason I've just watched it again this morning, after I listened the episode about this game on the Long View podcast, where Eric himself was the guest talking about his favourite game, so go and look it up if you enjoyed this review, you'll hear a whole lot more Eric and Merchants of Venus there! Highly recommended. Trust me. :)
Letting your neighbor determine your direction in the nav circles only comes into play if you hit one and can no longer assign a die to navigation. It punishes poor planning. Basically, if you only have a level one pilot, don't activate your throttle unless you know you're not hitting a nav circle. Also of note, if the above situation happens at a telegate rather than a nav circle, you roll the purple event die rather than letting your neighbor warp you halfway across the board.
There doesn't seem to be much player interaction from what I have seen in this review. I am still interested just want to know if this ends up kind of playing like solitaire with others.
Late to the Merchant of Venus party, but thanks for the review! The component drop was awesome :D Checking it out to see if it's for me and the group. Looks like it and now I'm checking out the availability ;)
Normally I don't go for economic games but Eric's enthusiasm is making me consider it a buy. As a new player, I wouldn't consider this 2 games in one but 1 big game with many variants.
Way late to the review, but it's on my list now, seeing your passion for the game, explanation, and clear love for it. And I'll agree with everyone else - best component drop ever, had me laughing so hard.
Thanks for an informative and balanced review. The length of the game is probably going to be a show stopper considering the limited time we have to play games. But it remains a very tempting game. One niggle: Starting with the differences to the classic edition was NOT helpful for players like me who haven't played the original. The segment made no sense at that point in time (lack of context to understand it). It would, IMO, have been better placed after the rules and before your opinion.
So ... should I consider buying this game or not? I'm confused. :) Good review, Eric. I loved the tie comment and appreciate the time you took walking us through the game. At $80 MSRP, it's a bit steep for me, but looks like something I'd like to try at least once.
5 years ago this review had me stoked, and I bought it, and we've played it a couple of times recently. While we had a good time, I feel like there's no point to it and I am really disappointed by this game at the moment. This game doesn't make me feel accomplished, just (un)lucky. Good beer and pretzel game I guess, but I expected much more. Maybe I'm missing something, we never played it all the way through to 30 turns. Maybe 20-23 before calling it an evening?
echoing thanks. been watching dice tower for a little now, and getting into hobby for last year or two. always was curious about eric role since I don't listen to the podcast much, and have always passed this by--didn't really know what it was about and looks cheesy to me. now I'm salivating. looks really, rly complex and still with many luck-mitigation slash gambling/push your luck mechanisms to go for gold. love it. I am definitely going to be buying this. thanks for secretly being the best!
AH the glory days of FFG when they made new interesting games, and don't regurgitate generic card games in the same 3 or 4 IPs. We will never get this game again or any of the classic FFG reimaginings or original games again sadly. I want to get this to the table.
You make one compelling video, this looks like alot of fun :) And I liked the component drop too, because while I enjoy the dice tower videos, I really don't understand why y'all seem so keen to throw your games around.
I suppose. But the bottom line still remains that if it turned out Hasbro didn't own the rights to the game and therefore could not have sold them, there was nothing FFG could have done(aside from buying out Stronghold games and, again, that doesn't seem like their sort of tactic).
I feel torn about the lack of combat. When I learned the classic game years ago, the guy teaching kept talking about how combat was pointless and it wasn't ever done. I of course was the only person who went for a fight, attacking him one time the whole game but winning because of it. I think he might still be bitter.
I want to thank your for that recommendation! Merchant of Venus is an amazing game! It has definitely has bumped up into my Top Ten fav. games, perhaps even in the Top 5! I love it! Btw, love the TNG uniform! ;)
It looks like Merchants & Marauders borrowed heavily from this game, considering the original came out in the late 80s. I love M&M, and MoV looks fun, but very similar, and I already have a hard time getting M&M to the table. :(
Really? You think that is how it happened? I happen to know several people that work for FFG and have met more than my share of the management and that really doesn't seem like their sort of tactics. Maybe I'm wrong but...yeah...I honestly can't see them saying or implying anything like that.
BEST Component Drop EVER !!!!!
I have never stopped a video mid viewing to leave a comment. That component drop was the best thing ever. I was laughing harder than was social acceptable.
One can really tell how much love has gone into the making of this video. Excellent review! Thank you!
Your component drop is amazing.
I love Eric's artful articulations. That silken voice makes Dice Dower that much better.
love how they included both games
Great review Eric. You should do more of them. I found the review clear, helpful, and very thoughtful.
Yep, I'm going to have to pick this up. On an off-topic note...I could listen to Eric's voice for hours.
Decided to search this review out after hearing Eric constantly mention the game on the podcast. LOVE the component drop btw! ;)
You MUST do more reviews, this was awesome. Kudos!
Awesome component drop haha

Is this game as complicated as it seems to be? I love the theming and all the options, but it looks to be pretty hard to keep track of.
Yeah I'm missing the fun here as well.
fantastic job Eric...the component drop was EPIC! I am looking forward to get my hands on the game
Just got my copy in the mail today! haven't opened it yet though.
Thanks for this Eric!
The component drop made me laugh so hard! I had to watch it several times.
6th-most-watched Dice Tower video by a non-primary reviewer (as of November 28, 2016).
Ryan. You have quite possibly the best reviewer voice ever.
So is the complete original game included in the box? The part about the demand system confused me a bit.
He was saying there is an option in the new version to use demand tokens in the game similar to the original. The complete original game is in there.
I like how Eric holds the game box as a small pet
Awesome review Eric! I love your explanations and thoughtful analysis! Keep it up!
LOL @ that component drop.
Picked this one up through a trade on BGG. excited to try it out. Thanks for the review!
How did you like it?
Perfect 180 to the Vasel drop!
There doesn't seem to be much player interaction from what I have seen in this review. I am still interested just want to know if this ends up kind of playing like solitaire with others.
Such a great broadcasting voice!
Awsome review Eric, you should do more videos!
Thanks for the review, and the laughs at the component drop :)
Great review Eric. You have a powerful and clear voice. You should be a voice actor. :)
Best component drop Ever! :)
Good solid review. Eric should do a lot more reviews.
Late to the Merchant of Venus party, but thanks for the review!
The component drop was awesome :D
Checking it out to see if it's for me and the group. Looks like it and now I'm checking out the availability ;)
great review, concise, clear, great opinions.

Well done Eric. Nice job.
Holy Crap, Eric looks way different than he did in my head when I just heard his voice

Eric's vs Tom's component drop, quite the contrast
Also, you should do more reviews
Simply one of the best review
One of the best reviews of ANYTHING that I've ever seen. I wasn't even interested in the game, and I watched the whole thing. Well done!!
his voice is simply hypnotizing :O
I just bought this game for £20 at a bring'n'buy based in Eric's continuous recommendation.
Excellent review!

also skipped the beginning went back and loled at the component drop. well played, sir. well played.
Tom Vassel could learn a thing or two! ;)
HAHA loved the component "drop". :D
AH the glory days of FFG when they made new interesting games, and don't regurgitate generic card games in the same 3 or 4 IPs. We will never get this game again or any of the classic FFG reimaginings or original games again sadly. I want to get this to the table.
Awesome review ;D Made a potential buyer out of me. Thanks!

You should do murder mystery show narration. great voice and review
great review!!
Best...Component....Drop....ever.
This dude sounds like Chris Hanson from To Catch a Predator. He has the same cadence too.
Best component drop ever!
You are the coolest in my book!
LMTO!!!! The component drop made me laugh so much that I burnt myself while ironing.
Thanx Eric.

great vid. thanks
There is only one "comonent drop" better than this! A "component drop" where the box of the game perfectly closed is gently dropped on the table!
Do more videos.

Not only a beautiful voice, a beautiful face too. Now, read me a story.
So, I guess that makes it "Best...Component...Drop...(after Tom's Best...Component....Drop....)..ever". Lol!
Hliarious
LOL @ drop
360p we meet again
your humor is very dry ,but funny.
Eric, I want to marry your voice.
Fantastic review!
