      Weren’t they nearly identical?

    • @popmart3272
      @popmart3272 Год назад +7

      @@Titanic19127 We can assume that they were more than 95% identical.
      Unfortunately, we are relying on the Olympic plans because the original Titanic blueprints ended up in the garbage many years ago. 50-60 years ago nobody cared about it.. Today it would be a treasure. We know that there were a few modifications to the Titanic compared to the Olympic, but these were more cosmetic matters.
      The Grand Staircase and other highly iconic places were identical. As for the location of the individual cabins, I would not be sure anymore... The Marconi Room or radio operators' quarters, if you will, was in a similar location on the Olympic and the Titanic BUT not in the same location. The finish and shape of this quarters also differed between the two ships.
      In general, an Olympic passenger wouldn't get lost on the Titanic and vice versa ;-) And maybe she/he wouldn't even notice the difference...

      Unfortunately every era has its ugly side, beneath all his elegance was barbaric classism, racism, sexism and homophobia, in addition to no penicillin and archaic medicine. Where the horrors of syphilis took a gruesome toll. A time when there was no such thing as "forced relations" with your wife and she was considered your property, and physically abusing that property was lawful -- that in fact she couldn't have a bank account w/o her husband's permission. A time when you could go to jail for having relations outside your race. But yes, superficially, it was quite elegant and charming.

    EDIT: Seven years later I can confirm, yes, they modified Olympic's bridge, making it appear more like Titanic's.
    at 1:57 That looks like Titanic's bridge has Olympic's wheelhouse was wider and curved at the front, so I have to wonder if they redesigned it at some point to be more like Titanic's or if that's actually just footage of Titanic. It's probably a redesign on Olympic.

      It’s a nice idea, but I’m sure cruise lines are way too spooked to do it. Building a cruise ship that holds that many people costs upwards of a billion in today’s dollars. I don’t think it gives a good vibe to travelers to sail on a Titanic clone for a week. So the fear is not getting the money back for the investment.

    If they were financially well, then they keep the olympic more in service like extra +10 or 5+ years in service. With the thought of preserving the olympic would be expensive at that time.

      The movie is not always true. Many were called and stationed at aft well deck and general room by stewards waiting for further orders. Since language was a problem, it was very difficult to gather them. Some also got lost in navigation. Some were reluctant to leave the ship, as all their belongings were in the ship. Their accomodations were away from boat deck, this they got late. First class had closer accomodations, thus ease of access. Steerage weren't obviously locked behind gates.
