The Meh90
😂
That's. Well done.
I’m not positive I’m going to keep it unless I can figure out a way around the harshness of the ODs and their massive volume differences.
I will say, the best Amp so far has been the hidden ‘Deluxe Reverb’ and the hidden Auto Wah is very effect.
Where can i download jclead? @@johnnathancordy thanks
John where did you get the irs at?
That's why I'm getting the GX 100. I have the Helix floor and that thing is a beast. I'm getting the Gx100 as a back up.
u made this sounds amazing !!!! had the GT1000 and sold it now I want a Me90
The effects on it are as good as any other effects board. The drives have always been fizzy on all the boss units from the word go!
Still great value for the money and a half decent interface too. Bang in some york audio ir's and it is a great unit
In this price range, the ME series MFX units are pretty hard to beat - always have been. The user interface is easy but limited - not a bad thing for many musicians.
...and it can be battery powered.
only half way through this video but you are showing me what this thing is further capable of!!! Not to mention, you burn the wires out of guitars... bravo
I'm happy playing through my amplifiers and have been considering an ME-90 for the multi-effects alone, bypassing the amp and cab modelling tones. Although I would certainly try some IR's for the odd recording.
excellent work. thanks for sharing.
Hi John, are these custom IRs available?
Hey, John maybe you should create a few more IRs and make like a $5.00 JNC Custom IR only bundle to sell along with your Preset bundles?!
Love your playing style!
Yes I agree, the x modded and x high gain default cab sim leave a lot to be desired
I can somewhat work my way with plexi and vox sim but after party ir worked much better in my experienced.
Is it possible to get this IRS?
The reason it takes so long for ir loading os that it 1 is going through midi and converting the ir essentially stamping it in to their format for the processing it does. Its how they keep their latency so low.
Which one of the link from the description have the IR from the video? Looking to buying it, John.
Thanks!
I love that the GT-1000/CORE have hi/lo pass filtering on the parameteic EQ. If the ME-90 had a dedicated full time EQ with all the parametersof the GT-1000's EQ, would make the tones more dialable-in. I mean you're dialing it anyway with class and charisma, but would be handy.
Some really nice tones there. Your IRs did sound better than the stock can sims in nearly all cases. There may have been a time or two that I thought the stock sounded pretty good with the Marshall sim, but those moments were fleeting!
Here’s maybe a thing to try: Katana (on-board sounds) vs. the ME-90, plugged into the Katana power-amp-in (or FX return). I bet that would garner a lot of interest. Mine, at the very (very) least.
I literally just bought an me90 and Katana 50 mk2 for the power amp in option :)
The preamps are much better on the ME90 (Katana uses ultra old COSM models) - but keep in mind, you’re still hitting the very fizzy Katana speaker
How do the Hotone Ampero Mini tones compare to the Boss ME 90? Albeit two very different units.
Do you prefer this or the GX100?
I have both Helix Floor and ME90. I don't use high gain amps at all so these horrible fizzy noises aren't a problem. I'm really enjoying the Boutique selectable amp. I take the ME90 out a lot more than the Helix and it's sounding fkn great.
Will the same ir u used in this demo that I got with with your helix hx stomp presets the jc lead work with the me90?
Good morning. I ask for help regarding the ME 90. Trying the delays: MODULATE, WARM, TAPE, ANALOG, STANDARD and also the one in the EQ/FX2 part, they are practically all the same and not even a stereo one. Is this the case or did they give me a defective pedal board? I've been using Boss pedals for a long time but never with this limit. Thank you and greetings.
G.
hey how you doing great video im new to the pedal thing so im kinda confussed on what all i have to download to make tone studio work i see the driver and tone studio / ir /and system program and im also confussed in what order to download them at can you give any advice for this
Is there somewhere we can buy your IRs?
Compared to the boss gt1 is it better or worse also are the uncommon effects like overtone, pitch shifter t. Wah better in the me90 or the gt1
Hi John, I really like your channel! I’m kind of new here… could you please tell me where I can download your IR’s? They sound fantastic! Greetings from Spain
Fun vid, did you low pass that IR and reprint it? Where(Hz) did you shelf it at?
I don't remember, but probably somewhere around 5k?
What is the numbers of your pickup heights? Listening to it i actually got sleepy on my chair❤.
WOW... that's interesting to watch you adjust the parameters on the fly!
Can the Presets be adjusted, and saved? (I guess that why there are user banks... :O)
Been kinda bummed out about mine.
I don't run it into a computer or care to use the app. I want to use it the way I used my older ME units, into a amp.
I don't know if fizzy describes it, although that's part of it. Everything has a weird klanky high end that I can't seem to dial out. And it is kinda screwed up that I have to go into the app, or use IR's to help it. I just want to plug in, twist a few knobs and play.
Where can I find your IRs? It sound fantastic!
What is that noise? Sounds like a grounding issue… is that from the unit itself?
I had a feeling this would be the case.
The GT-1000(core) can be very fizzy on the “original” cab settings that it defaults to.
If the ME-90 had incorporated just a bit of cab editing, like a knob or switch for mic type, I think that really would’ve helped.
The Boss stock cabs sound great on the 121 and 121/57 blend settings. The default 57…meh.
Great video - I’m totally new to the idea of loading in an IR so I’m curious as to how one comes across sourcing them. I’ve got the ME90 and would love to try this so that I can get the best direct tone possible. I don’t go particularly heavy but would love to tame some of the high end.
I’ve also noticed that the Preamp voices can be really bass-heavy thru the PA or an FRFR so I need to hook it up to the tone studio and have a look at it all.
You can find some free IR's on line but Celestion has almost every speaker they ever made as an IR, they have single, double and four speaker cabs plus open/closed back variants.
One thing to consider is the source IR's are recorded without EQ, so depending on the software you use, there could be considerable top and bottom end you might need to trim away. Most Apps have a high/low pass filter for this reason.
Yeh so IRs are plentiful online - these I made using Mikko cabs from ML Sound Labs
Go here, BOSS ME-90 | 4CM Setup, Bonus FX & More , there's a free one in the Video Description.
@@jamdalf4343 Great, thanks so much! Do they need to be ME90 specific or would IRs work even if they're in his Helix folder etc?
@@slawsonscot Most IRs should work with all IR loaders but as IR technology improves older IRs might get outdated or whatever. Also if you buy one of John's Line 6 based (Helix, PodGo, etc) Preset/Patch bundles for $5.00 (I get his PodGo bundle and he usually adds the newer PodGo Presets as he creates them) it includes John's own custom JCCab IR.
Has anybody used Boss IR200? I asked one youtubber and he mentioned that BOSS IR200 loads IRs MUCH faster than what I see here (the same problem...takes so long with my GTK)
I’m having trouble uploading anything to my ME-90. It’s not very user friendly when it comes to downloading. I’m not tech savvy but it said drag and drop over the tone studio and nothing has happened. Bought the Bluetooth with it but can’t use it until I upload v1.03🤦🏻♂️Haven’t jammed in 2 weeks just tone testing and putting my pedalboard together when I have the time. The Pre amps have always sucked I use my Nobels and EVH for better tones, Reverbs and ambient delays also. Switching from the ME-80 is a little bit of an upgrade but I definitely need to add the momentary switching and a better gain section. Gotta gig next weekend. It is what it is at this point.
At the price point I can forgive, still sounds great imo.
Good video for information, but without saying how to get the IRs, it seems pretty useless.
where can i dowload the ir?
Sounds like you had the noise gate off completely ?
I will probably run this through a program called gig performer and use my own gates and compression 😉
Great playing !
How about you to incorporate some ME90 presets in your arsenal of PRESETS?... Looking for those in your PRESETS site soon.
For $350 and some ir’s you can’t go wrong. I love the simplicity. Can you use this for recording and reamp with it?
Hmm good question - I'd have to check the manual (just checked) - it doesn't sound like it passes the DI signal of the guitar? So yes you could record via USB, but it'd be effected signal only (I think)
It is it's own audio interface and works with a Daw and probably the Torpedo as well for more IR possibilities.
Has anyone got any quick tips for making the gain sounds less fizzy WITHOUT plugging the ME90 into a computer?
I just saw a video of a guy putting a parametric eq in the FX loop to tame the fizz.
Red Box
You make it sound like a $2,000 Multifx pedal. Mine comes tomorrow. Do you think mine will sound as good as yours? 😂😂😂
Can we buy your ir for this?
Thumbnail is 100% the facial expression of hearing harsh fizz. Have done the same myself.
"Fizzy, Compressed, 2 --Dimensional."......I have that describe BOSS, ZOOM, Line 6, NUX, MOOER ect. ect ect ect.......Overpriced and too complicated describing Kemper, Axe--FX, Helix ect ect......
So just buy a amp and some pedals and a mic and be done with it?......But then you are "too limited"
Just stick to acoustic guitar then?....O.K. I will do that then. Thanks for the advice. Cheers!
Not sure if it was just me, I listened to this video pretty loud. I could hear a faint digital high frequency whirring.. it could have been those single coils. Annoying I didnt just hear it inbetween playing, I heard it during playing too
Just add to this, this isn't a hate on the product I just noticed it. I'm 40, so kinda not digital adverse, but I did grow up playing amps. What I love about this product is the tactile nature and NO menus.. menus just kill the magic for me
The noise is either due to the single coils which tends to be horrible in near proximity to a lot of electronics and/or the electrical interference of the computer via the USB which is a general common problem when using with audio equipment if one are not careful and thens to cause that kind of high pitch whine. The pulsing of that noise soind like he may be using a laptop with the charger connected, i have heard it myself when using a laptop in that scenario, laptop powersupplies can be a bit problematic when using the computer for recording in my experience. I wouldnt worry about there being a problem with the ME-90, im sure its fine.
Ooooo this is cool, but you convinced me buy a Helix so... 🤷😂
John, your playing is tops but even the IR couldn't help this Boss unit. It was still fairly fizzy and there was a lot of noise.
ToneX or ...Boss me 90?)
Get both as tonex is not a multi fx
Plug the tonex into the send/return of me90 (turn the me90 preamp section off)
And now you have all the fx on the pedal but you have all the tonex amps in the correct position of he signal chain (£650 total cost)
Or spend abit more to get the Gx100 for it's features, flexibility and additional fx and you can stack multiple drives, delays, reverbs, and use the effects in stereo..(it has all the bass variations if it's effects plus more variations of every effect and more signal chain/tweaking options)
And combine it with tonex for better amp sounds (total £800-850)
I do the gx100 tonex option and I have a mix of other pedals I have built up over the years and the flexibility it offers is great.
If you can't afford it yet, get whatever you want most first- but plan to get other in the future as they offer a pretty complete rig combined
The boss units are so noisy. I had the gx 100 and had to send back because the crackly noisy feedback. Sounds like this is similar as soon as notes trail off. Guess it's because they're unbalanced out or something else. It's a shame because of otherwise good sound and very responsive.
voce poseria disponibilizar esses IR que está usando no video?
Sound is personal of course but i would never want that muffled dark kind of sound myself so this video is definately not for me at least. I actually didnt realize that the IR´s are loaded through midi until now, no wonder its slow (dont own any of these units).
I dont care how it sounds. It looks like a Boeing flight deck so I'm in.
Boss drive sounds sterile - there is no life in them, it's not dynamic - products like Helix are miles ahead, I used to be a Boss Fan for a long time, but I don't see them getting anywhere, even their reverbs are so so. They need to rethink the ME line ( give it a bigger display) also the input jacks on their processors rust really fast, poor metal quality, they are better off using plastic jack instead of metal, the Helix PC interface is also way ahead of Boss, I hope Boss does not become a Motorola or a Nokia, who once dominated but could not keep up with the times and got the future trend all wrong.
yeah, just another flash-in-the-pan company... (EDIT apologies, I was being sarcastic but that’s missed the runway…).
Comparing it with Helix is downright futile. Obviously they had to do some cost cuttings such as not providing bigger display or metal body but still at this price range, the product is an absolute beast. I have both helix floor and ME 80 and I am a fan of ME series for they are promising and super user friendly.
The Boss interface is really intuitive and functional. And Boss drives are amazing (OD1-3, BD2 and so on). This is a great product for people who want a more tactile approach while Boss still is making more "modern" units as well. And you're take on Boss becoming Nokia or whatever is just complete nonsense. I'm glad you like your Helix but cmon, dude.
Boss is way cheaper
Totally different audiences. I had a Headrush and a Synth Keyboard.
I played less than I fiddled. Sold both.
Now I use a Casio Privia S1100 no frills Keyboard and an ME-90 on guitar (formerly ME-70).
