  • I have wanted to do this video for a while now.
Im sure many new kayak anglers have wanted to cover this topic but didn't know where to reach out to. So I decided to do as best as I can for now, and cover what are the pros / cons of both kayak trolling motor options.
In the end I find they both have a fine balance back fourth.
Overall the purpose of this video is to just share my experience with both motors and present both options as far as how they sound, and somewhat operate.
If you find it useful please share to help others make a decision on what they may want to chose in the end. Thanks for your times folks have a great week.

There's so many xi3 reviews that state the motor goes haywire and the remote stops working. Maybe you can update when you use it.

Unfortunately I got rid of the XI3. Used the funding to pick up a Newport Vessel NK300. I think the motor have had multiple gremlins that popped up.
With the considerable amount of use and variables of how people treated these things, took care of em. It’s hard to say why others had this reason with their models. I would have loved to have it for a longer duration but I ended up staying with my minn kotta power drive. It’s one pound heavier and slower then the XI3 but I’ll tell you one thing she’s never let me down. I think it may be due for a new rebuild on the bottom. But I would be happy to service it soon cause she’s loyal as hell to me.
Big thanks for you taking the time to watch the video.

I actually did use it a couple of times.
And i Believe what your referring to is when it decides to randomly stop for no reason and turn.
This in my opinion could be due to user error or potentially a bad batch of motorguides.
It did do this to me a couple of times but only when i accidentally nudged the remote with my big ole arms.
Never had this issue with my minn kotta. Also with the remote stop working could be due to its cheap build.
If you ever take one apart its a very cheap plastic remote with week materials.
I think if you sit on it. its done for. Stops working.

Hey thanks for the review. I'm trying to decide between both the motors you have there. I know pulling the motor is pretty easy with motorguides secure step. Is it that much harder to stow the power drive with the goofy ass lever? Is it something you did with Paracord? I currently have an endura 35 on the back with a PWM. I have to pull pretty hard to get that old fuckin dinosaur out of the water. Oh and thanks for the video, you answered a few questions that the khaki brigade at Cabela's here in East Grand Forks couldn't answer. Specifically, any questions I had. And yet I still bought the wrong head unit from a kid that didn't know anything about trolling motors, so the jokes on me. Thanks dude for your knowledge..

I’ll tell you what I have had my Dino kota outlive the motorguides. It really all comes down to how much do people use it. And do they take care of it.
