      Thanks, this year it has been real nightmare weather. No dry snow, just pure ice with water on top. The CE has been awesome tire.

      @@Jcool721 I was a little concerned about cornering on softer snow. But I guess I can always run it on lower pressure in those conditions.

    Interesting video ! Just ordered a RockyMountain Blizzard 27.5 that come stock with cake eater. I only ride on snowshoes trails that are in fact mountain bike trails in the summer. We don't have grooming here so it's often soft. I know you said that the gnarwhal had too much resistance, but were they better performing in deep soft snow ? (especially during climbs and down hills).

      Thanks for your question, this is hard one :-) I had to google your bike and check. What a rig! Amazing bike for sure! You would have so much fun on trail. It looks like 27.5/4'' wide Cake Eaters installed as stock, right? I would like to try narrower CE too! What is the max tire clearance in your bike frame? The Gnarwhal is not as wide as the Cake Eater (in 27.5/4.5'' size). I would say you have to be able to fit at least 26/4.8'' (like Jumbo Jim 26/4.8'') and still it's not 100% sure that the 27.7/4,5'' Cake Eater will fit in the frame - it is that big in height! Also you may able to fit Gnarwhall but not maybe CE (on paper they look like the same size but they are not!). For sure the Gnarwhal is better in deep snow because it has square size sharp knobs and they penetrate thru the snow surface much better. However they don't have the same snow shoe like float on trail and the CE wins in here! The CE wants to slide off in in front but the Gnarwhal is able to steer much better in deep snow for sure and you are able stay up and to push thru in snow. I would avoid Gnarwhal because of so bad rolling but for sure it is more capable tire in deep snow! The CE in 27.5/4.5'' size is still my choice for bad snow or in difficult technical situation. I may need to let air out and loose good rolling performance but I gain a lot of capability in deep snow though. Short story - the Gnarwhal is better in deep soft snow but the CE is better in other situations :-) Good luck to you mate, happy trails! See here in my video where I loose down hill section to my friend who is riding the Gnarwhal 27.5/4.5'' and I was with Jumbo Jim 26/4.5'' ruclips.net/video/ND54jLwQdpw/видео.html

      @@Jcool721 Thanks for your comment ! The blizzard 30 2021 actually come with a 27.5 CE with 4.5'' width. I may start the season and see how it goes. We have a lot of steep climb so maybe the CE will be limited there. I wish they had a Johnny 5 in 27.5 ;) . Thanks for your help !

      @@lucasmichaud7646 YES! Avoid Gnarwhal and try to adjust air in the tire if needed. The CE is very good in uphill so the traction is good enough. Very deep powder, maybe not :-)

    How are the rolling resistance with the cake eater ? Similar to the barbegazi??

    • @Jcool721
      @Jcool721  Год назад

      Not that good. Less but much better than the Gnarwhall.

    You must rent your apartment. No way I'd have studded tires on my hardwood! Good review

  • @cambassplayer666

    Do the studs have to be seated?, like to be ridden on asphalt/concrete for some kilometers?

    • @Jcool721
      @Jcool721  4 года назад

      Not really but it is good practise for sure. No loose studs yet.

      As good practice you really should no matter subjective experience: Better safe than sorry but might as well buy a pack of studs either way for backup
