love these guys, Angelo is awesome, met him on South St once when he was handin out flyers for another project he had and I just said "you look a lot like Angelo from Fishbone, one of my all time favorite bands" and he blew me away sayin "Hey, that's me, thanks man I'm glad you dig us", some of the best shows I'd ever been to were Fishbone, just amazing
Most memorable experience seeing Fishbone was at Temple U Spring fling, I think in 87 or 88, he climbed a tree singing Party at Ground Zero and just kept singin all the way up as it bended over a huge pit, just an amazing stage show. Last time I saw them was when JC Dobbs reopened for a little bit and didn't have an alcohol license but they still threw a great show, I caught him when he surfed the small crowd(no advertizing, house did an awful job)a couple times. I hope to see them again. Great interview Erin, keep rockin!
@GretschDog yeah I've tossed Angelo around a few times, gotta love that guy. You get to see Tool there in 92 too? Seamus called me over an told me I needed to check em out no need for the cover, he and I didn't know the 2 big glasses of tea I just had were made with the best shrooms around at the time, that show blew my mind. I found video of it here on youtube, just look for Tool live at Dobbs. No matter where I moved it seemed Maynard was starin at me, so of course I thought he must be trippin balls too lol. Watch the vid, I basically stood near the front of the buildin but moved around when he started kind of freakin me out. lol
Fishbone had to come up through the punk scene. Their souls and spirits still live there! Everybody that was into punk, in the early 80’s LOVE Fishbone! Always!
I had bad timing running into them once here in Chicago; they just pulled up in their van all tired as smack and I felt bad trying to take pictures with Angelo, who was out of it, but then my man Norwood came out all lit and was happy to. 🤘🏼
Absolutely! My all time favorite band... Especially live. Seen them seven times dating back to the mid 90's. While it's true that most of their 'hits' are Ska influenced, these guys play pretty much everything. A little bit of punk, some funk, some soul, a little bit of metal. So musically varied.
You should look into getting an external mic for when you record close to the speakers, preferable one with a sensitivity switch such as the Sennheiser MKE 440. This will keep your audio from getting distorted from the loud bass. I myself use the Sennheiser and the Zoom H6 (my overall favorite mic) when I record concerts, it just depends on the situation as the Sennheiser is much lighter and more compact than the Zoom.
