Man your videos are so great! Been following you for years and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your dedication to teaching! You've helped me really become a great oil painter. Actually, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be an oil painter. Most of what I learned was from you. So I can't thank you enough Chris. I never miss a video and there's always something new for me. Been painting for over a year and because of these videos I feel confident enough to sell. Your a gem! 💎
Can you do a video on just painting glass? I'm trying to paint a crown royal bottle and I'm having a bit of trouble with it. Thank you for your videos they really help.
Thank you so much! Those are very valuable tips. I have one question though, what if we're trying to paint a scene ? You know like in old masters' paintings , and we want to add an actual background like a room, forest, seascape, etc , how to choose the right composition so it doesn't look like a bad photoshop?
Your portrait of the elderly woman is stunning. Especially the hair looks amazing! I like the unfinished look of Michael Shane Neal‘s portraits, but it can take away the attention from the face. That is the case especially for the woman in the blue blazer. The highest contrast is between the blazer and the bright background, which draws the attention to the edge of the blazer. Not what you want in a portrait.
This is very timely since I'm working on teeth right now. I'm guessing this portrait is of your grandmother because I definitely see a family resemblance. 😉
Having worked in a dental lab I am a real stickler when it comes to esthetics and getting the correct shade and not some refridgerator white or `hollywood smile white` Some people it works okay but, bright white teeth usually just looks like dentures and thats a no-no as esthetics go.
Can I ask a question for anyone to answer please? Do I need to think about the contour of the subject when laying brush strokes, e.g. if it's a ball should I try to make the stroke curved? I'm about to start painting (paints are a birthday gift) so I have zero experience. Any help would be great. Thank you
Don't agree with the Zorns Palette: Ivory black is a terrible choice to mix skin colors with, it looks so muddy and non-realistic. Burnt Umber is the way to go when mixing shadow-skin colors. Just replace the vibrant yellow with yellow ocker- but normally, you still have to desaturate the flesh tone a bit with (preferably with ultramarine blue). Alizarin crimson and transparent oxide red are also so useful colors for fleshctones. Nahh! Zorns Palett sucks Ass big time!
I've been watching you for a while, and it's crazy how much better you've gotten while teaching us.

Thanks for sharing. Do you have a video focused more on acrylic painting and how to do portraits, considering how fast the paint dries?
Not yet but I’m working on it

Something I've realized is that if you don't have a proportional divider you can use a caliber even a cheap one made by Pittsburgh
Hey you didn't do your outro catch phrase ? That's not okay it's like a religion 😂
