Hello everybody! Japanese people are really thin! It’s probably one of the first things you’ll notice when you come here! But the question is, why?
Maybe it’s because of our advanced fitness equipment like the long piro piro! You might think that it looks like a normal party whistle, but it’s much more than that! This thing will build your core muscles and help you burn fat, while training your facial muscles! With one blow, you’re getting thinner and more beautiful at the same time!
So WHY ARE Japanese so thin? Well, there are several reasons. But not all of these reasons are good or even healthy. In fact, I’ve had my own struggles with trying to fit in with Japan’s thin-obsessed society. But before I tell you my story, let’s look at how Japan is designed to keep people thin!

Please respect the Name of God, don’t make jokes about the Holy Spirit.
Lord Jesus Christ is coming back everyone, please don’t worship celebrities and entertainment, focus on Him alone. I promise there’s more to life than money, partying, homosexuality and music. Hell is real, repent from sinning confess your sins and ask God to forgive you, I know He will if you’re sincere. Anyone who thinks the Name of Lord Jesus Christ is a joke, boldly mocks and scorns Him or takes pleasure in people who do is in for a big unpleasant surprise on judgement day IF they don’t repent and follow Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is very hot, people please repent! In the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏💪✝️💜❤️✝️!
Idolatry such as, Islam, Catholicism, Sangomaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, New Age, Science, Evolution, halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Politics, Donald Trumpism, Easter Bunnyism and other religions/faiths that are outside Biblical Christianity lead to hell! Don’t believe them, believe the Almighty God the Father of Lord Jesus Christ, who begot Him. Our Creator, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is mighty, He doesn’t need a woman to beget a son, He is God. I choose to put my faith in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has unlimited and infinite power to beget!
So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen.

My mother is a professional pastry chef, and I learned how to bake from her. One trick I started using to lose weight is if I see a pastry that I know how to make (cookies, cakes, etc) I say to myself "I know what is in that" or "I can do better" or "i know what this tastes like already" and this is how I talk myself out of eating it.
I also used my knowledge of baking to cut out fats and surgar in the things I make at home. Most of my pastries are 30-70% less calories now. I encourage everybody to learn the chemestry of baking so you can cut unnecessary calories from your food too.

A note about the sugar/sweetener at the table. Those are for the benefit of people who order coffee. It is usually served black at restaurants, so the customer would add sugar, powdered creamer, or artificial sweetener to their taste.

As someone who's currently in the process of losing a lot of weight (highest weight was 321 lbs/146 kg, started seriously trying to lose weight at 309 lbs/140 kg, currently 283 lbs/128 kg after about 12 weeks, goal weight 185 lbs/84 kg), I can confirm that letting go was the first step (not just of the emotional pain from people making fun of my weight, but also of the idea that I had to eat to get full, like every other American does). I'm doing this for me...I don't want to wake up one day when I'm 40 years old, and find myself headed to the hospital with a heart attack that I might not survive (I just turned 37 a few days ago). I've begun eating more vegetables, and almost completely cut out sugary drinks and desserts. I'll soon be starting back on the gym grind, as well. Mrs. Eats, I appreciate you sharing your story and your bravery, I wish all the best for you and Mr. Eats on his journey, and I hope to hear more of it in the future. She loves how excited I get when she says she going to make yakisoba, Udon, even miso soup, cause no one else in the family has tried to embrace Japanese culture. When she found out I was studying Japanese history and language, she would talk my ear off in a good way.
Her meals are the one escape from the sugar laden food that’s all over America. Plus I know it’s legitimately prepared the right way. I never have stomach problems like I can have with some American foods and chains.

Sushi from Lidl is not like getting Sushi from USA gas stations where it's a recipe for sitting on the toilet the entire next day.

As Kid i was always the super skinny one, people always tellt me i should eat more and even bullied me for my skinny chicken legs and being a Ginger also didn't help much. But i didn't get much food at home, so i never gained much weight until i had the chance to leave them. But as i said, i got from one Hell in the other Hell. There i gained a lot of weight and people started saying, just stop eating, you are so fat, you will die early, ect. ect.
But i couldn't stop, quite the opposite, the more people and my Ex-Boyfriend treated me badly, the more i ate and isolated me xx.
I have still a bit to loose and it's getting really hard, when you at a state, where results come slower and slower. And you are right, loosing weight didn't help my mental-health. I'm at 76kg now and still feel like my 110kg self and think People make fun of me, when they compliment me and stuff. I don't had a boyfriend since the breakup 3 Years ago and even though i sometimes miss the company, i can't bring myself to trust a Guy at the moment. Especially because I'm afraid that my mental state is not yet far enough that I don't fall for the same type of man again.

Sorry to hear. Men really can be quite a problem at times. However available data suggests that the worst tiny minority of all people, of all demographics, is at most, 1% to 5% of all of us. It is wise to stay away from dating and relationships for a while, work on yourself, heal, and learn how to spot Red Flags in future. It can be helpful to learn about how manipulative, gaslighting narcissists operate, but if you do it too much, you will make yourself overly vigilant to the point of paranoia.
It happened to one lady I knew who's only socialising was talking to victimised women, as she obsessed over Narcissism and associated Red Flags. I had to stop speaking to her eventually. Conversation the last 4 years became nearly nothing but her obsession and despising her ex and her acting like the entire world was against her.
There is a harsh truth that both toxic personalities, and their victims struggle to cope with. Nearly always, the entire world *is not* out to get them. There are 8 billion people on the planet, and 99.999999% of them will never even know they exist, never mind have a strong opinion for or against them.
      Recommendations: Carol Dweck's Growth Mindset, also seeking therapy if you can access it for free or afford it. Else for advice from professionals;
Dr Tracey Marks or Mark Tyrrell of Uncommon Knowledge UK. Also, learning about Critical Thinking skills of Cognitive Biases and Logical Fallacies can be extremely useful for your own life, and society.
Eg, those of us who have been totally crushed by the worst people, are often afraid to like ourselves in case we become those who hurt us. There is only a tiny bit of overlap between having self-esteem and self-confidence, and being a toxic narcissist.
To say they are exactly the same is the logical fallacy of False Equivalence. "A chihuahua is exactly the same species as a Lion. Exactly, exactly the same. They both have a face, eyes, a nose, mouth, growl, and have four legs with claws and a tail"
Or as articulated by Simon Sinek: "Confidence is believing in yourself. Arrogance is telling others you're better than they are. Confidence inspires. Arrogance destroys"

But It seems that way because I focus and compare myself to others and get depressed. Plus your points about the American food culture is very true. If I focus on the ways that you shared, I will be healthier and happier, and content with the way God made me. Just cutting out junk food, and exercising more will help me feel better. I also struggled a lot with my weight. When I was younger, I worked out almost 6 hours every day. I was in 5 different sports clubs and also made a license as lifeguard. But suddenly I started to gain weight, so I trained even harder. Didn't help, so I went on a diet, only drank water and ate fresh vegetables, still gained weight. I couldn't eat in public since everyone told me with my weight I should skip meals, I got belittled and called lazy and fat. My weight rose until I wasn't able to do sports anymore since my joints hurt so much and I got bruises from the slightest bump.
It took 6 years until I finally found a doctor that believed me and looked for the cause, finding out it was lipedema that made my weight rise.
Lipedema is an illness where fat cells increase unlimited, it gets worse and worse with time. To make it simple, it's like with cancer, the cells stop doing their original job and become neoplastic. The cells get bigger and bigger and neither diets nor sport can affect them. But since they are "fat cells", neither people nor medicine take it serious, calling out people affected by the illness: "It's fat, so it's your own fault. Just stop lying to yourself."
No it's not, and finally that viewpoint starts to change (a little). After 20 years of suffering (the cells don't just get bigger, they also cause a lot of pain) I finally got my operations, and since last year, I am back on working out, cause I finally am able to do so again. On my own, I would not have managed to do it. Lipedema is an illness, not a decision.

I think this is my favorite video! My grandmother was from Japan and she always made comments about my weight growing up (along with the rest of my family) and, though I know it was from a place of love, it definitely has had a lasting effect on my mentality regarding weight. When the people that you love make you feel ugly, it's a hard thing to come back from. I look back at pictures of me from High School and early adulthood, and I regret having such negative feelings about myself back then. Now, at 31 and 6 years after having a baby, my weight is definitely out of control. I am working on getting healthy, not for aesthetics, but so I can be around and present 100% for my daughter.

(Heehee, the sugar on tables in America is really for your coffee or tea. I don't know if anyone actually adds any to sweetened sodas, they've gotten pretty over-sweet since they switched to corn syrup mostly anyway. (Real sugar was more expensive so they didn't just dump it in like they do now. I can't even stand much of the stuff anymore. :) ) )
To-go boxes/'doggie bags' are pretty essential if you can't/don't want to eat a lot at a sitting, but actually portion sizes have been coming down cause of 'shrinkflation,' (charging the same price for less of the product to try and make it look like they aren't gouging.) But I notice cause I'm used to getting two meals out of a dinner. :)

You are both an inspiration. I know Mr. Eats will be a success in his journey to better health. I would love to not only see this as part of this channel's story, but as someone who was overweight most of my life, I hope to be an encouragement as well.

thank you for sharing your own story. What you said about people bullying others for being overweight is so true. It's rarely helpful, if ever. It's especially damaging for children and teenagers who first need to built up their self-esteem. Your tip on staying slim by not buying unhealthy food may sound simple enough but it's spot on. It's easier to walk past it when grocery shopping than trying to resist overeating on it once you have it at home.

While we were in Japan last, my wife and I lost 10 lbs each. We didn't hold back at all on what we were eating, but the the combination of walking constantly and not having easily accessible things to snack on probably did most of it.

To-go bags are revolutionary! I ask for one and split my food in half before I start eating in US restuarants, otherwise it's too easy to eat too much!

You two are so fun! My Fiance and I are dieting right now. Avoiding imbalances is the key to weight loss success. Avoiding excessive exercise, avoiding drinks/foods that cause insulin spikes, and avoiding too much food each day/week. As it relates to excessive exercise: I've done many marathons and Ironmans and each training period I gained weight. In fact, I just finished an Ironman a few months ago and was fatter than I've ever been... 80lbs overweight, clinically obese, not exaggerating. Counting calories in a safe way with moderate to no exercise, while avoiding drinks and food that cause insulin spikes is the only way I reach my goal of a happier me. In two months I've lost 25lbs. but have a long way to go. When I say counting calories in a safe way I mean not eating too little ... many men need to be around 1500-ish calories a day (women are 1200-ish? not sure) to lose weight but if you go too low... say 750 calories then your body will likely go into survival mode or an eating disorder will come of it. There are an INSANE number of drinks & foods that cause insulin spikes that will ruin a diet. For me, that means NO Starbucks (even black).. but I can drink weaker coffee, and no workout powders. Of course, no alcohol or high-sugar items (basically all drinks/foods in the U.S. have WAY too much sugar). In the U.S. drinks and food that cause insulin spikes are EVERYWHERE... During the time I'm focused on losing weight, I make it easy on myself by subscribing to a food prep & delivery service that is properly portioned, highly nutritious, and not pumped full of chemicals. Then I'm simply not allowed to eat anything else except for a banana or some other small amount of fruit. I can share the service if anyone wants it but this is not meant to be a plug for their meals. There are definitely bad food delivery services as well. Just trying to share my long-time experience of what does and doesn't work in regards to weight loss and how to do it in a healthy and convenient way that doesn't feel like torture.

you dont go into a srvival mode you just have horrific blood sugars and your body starts to take from the muscle before the fat. thats why balanced eating is so important so you dont store too much or lose muscle mass!

Thanks for sharing your story!! I would follow mr. Eats journey.
I’m currently trying to get into a workout routine and healthy eating habits. I have a friend at work that helps motivate me. It is a little bit hard living in the U.S where the portions are bigger, and you just want to eat everything.
I’ve always been chubby, and now that I’m older, there’s been a few people that mistake my chubbiness for being pregnant. I know they feel embarrassed when they ask me and I tell them no I’m not pregnant. That doesn’t make me feel good about my body.
Sorry for making this long, but there was one time I did say yes to being pregnant. (Even when it wasn’t true). There was a language barrier involved. My in-laws, husband and I were visiting Japan back 4 years ago. We needed to use the bathroom, so my mother-in-law and I were standing in line. There was an older Japanese lady in front of me. (It was a little cold out so I was wearing layers). She turned to me and said something in Japanese. I turned to my mother-in-law hoping she understood something the Japanese lady said. She didn’t, so she told me to just say yes. I turned back to the Japanese lady and nodded my head yes. Then it clicked in my head of what she might have been asking, when she patted my stomach with a smile on her face, and said something else in Japanese. But, having been to Japan before and watching RUclips videos on it. I did understand how much children are valued in Japanese culture. I wasn’t offended by the miss understanding. I wish I did know what she was saying before, because I felt like I lied to her. Even now I still don’t have any kids. But, planning on kids soon.
