Niue Islander in Queanbeyan NSW trainstation

Queanbeyan is a NSW town, the history is that while they were building Canberra everyone had to move into Quenbeyan, and it is not in Canberra. I just learnt this later on, Canberra is a state on its own, and it is of course the capital of Australia. So why was this little town named the capital of Australia, that is also a bit of history I found amusing. The could could decide which city out of Melbourne and Sydney so the made up the town called Canberra and the rest is history. This is what I heard from the locals. Still its a beautiful town with a long stretch of national reserve where kangaroos are roaming freely.
