Dude. Bought your IFR ground school several months ago. I haven't been able to spend enough time on it, but it's fantastic. And videos like this are such added value. My GPS training on a 430 when I was training for my private was minimal. "Here's how you set your destination airport. Here's how to set the frequencies. Now fly the pink line." Done. No offer of access to manuals, nothing. This video and your 430-530 vids are gold. Fabulous content. Anybody reading this wondering if they should purchase FlightInsight training, do it. It's worth every penny and then some.
This video was just what I needed. I'm training for my instrument rating in a G3X/GTN650 C172 and it's help me visualize and know what to expect as I train. Thanks!
Another fine presentation. I do think you missed a couple of opportunities. The most important one was discussing why waypoint sequencing was being annunciated "SUSP" even after activating vectors-to-final after the missed. It's important to understand the "why" and what, if anything, one needs to do. This was not mentioned. The second is not using the Fast Find button. When entering SWANN for example, Fast Find had already populated with the closest SWANN without having to worry about another SWANN halfway across the world. You could have saved needless button-pushing. Finally, I would have entered the flight plan in a logical sequence KCGS > SWANN > V268 > LEEAH > KACY. This saves you from having to use Insert Before and go back and activate the KCGS > SWANN leg. More needless button pushes. Overall, nice job. Great cadence. Nice and easy presentation on the eyes. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for these tips! Just started using the GTN650Xi and these will help. The one that threw me for a loop was why SUSP remained even though VTF was activated. That took me a little while to find the answer to (it's not a problem, but knowing the "why" is nice).
I wish I saw this video before. I had a great instructor but sometimes is harder for us (people who have a mother language other than English) to catch all the instructions on the first attempt. I will recommend it to some people struggling with the same! Thanks!
Really like your videos and subscribed! In case nobody has told you, you voice (tone, rhythm, inflection, all aspects) combined with the crisp editing reminds me a lot of Eric from SoCal Flying Monkey.
Love your videos, at around 10:50 you stated consult aim 1-1-19 and I think you we're wanting to refer to 1-1-17 (j). This video pointed me in the right direction to find that information about degrees gps vs actual. I have a local approach and depending on which plane I fly the approach course changes from the gps and wanted to know why haha. Many Thanks.
Thanks for the presentation! I did have a question based on what you said at 10:40, The error of charted heading vs what your GPS is telling you to fly can be found in the AIM 1-1-19 which is GBAS and GLS. Are you trying to refer to 1-1-17 (k) impact of Magnetic Variation on PBN Systems? Maybe I'm not understanding "why" its happening. You say don't get thrown off by this, but alas I'm thrown off. Which do/ should you follow? The charted Magnetic heading or the GPS heading?
Very interesting demo I did and doing it using Garmin GTN 650 IFR on x-plane 11.55 for airplane Eclipse 550 NG very realistically on this simulator. Thank you for this presentation.
That was awesome. I'm instrument training in the piper pilot 100i and use the G3X and the GNX 375 and it's super cool without the pressure of actually flying to see how it all comes together. One question though, when flying on a Victor Airway and it has multiple fixes over lets say 100 mile straight course, what is the purpose of having all those fixes loaded up it you're just flying straight line to the last fix. I guess I don't understand their value if those fixes are not used for turning somewhere else, but just instead a string of fixes in a straight line.
It is interesting (and a little confusing) that the inactive (white) routing does NOT update to remove KACY from the sequence when the RNAV approach is added to the flight plan with the SIE transition. It seems to be simple logic to assume you are getting to KACY via the approach.
A very good video but I am not sure building a plan backwards from the destination is a good idea if more than one airway is to be used, the technique looks like a hangover from using some Garmin marine products that the route has to be built backwards.
Great video. I have a question about vectors to final. If this is active and ATC changes instructions, I believe you are stuck and have to delete plan and re-enter the plan. Is that correct, would it be better to just activate a leg on the final approach
On the 650, you’re not stuck if ATC changes its mind. You can pull up any intermediate points or otherwise. This was fixed from older units like the 430/530, where vectors to final would indeed blow away most waypoints
Just so you know, your likes are being throttled. I liked all of your videos last year and they are all unliked. It appears my comments are gone as well. Good stuff. You tube blows. Cheers!
Today while I was doing my instrument training, I was thinking this" I wish he upload something about GTN 650", and here you go. I still have hard time when to Load the Approach and when to Load And Activate. Also, when press Activate Vectors to Final.
I'm surprised the 430s are still supported. I used them 15 years ago as GPS/WAAS was just getting off the ground (bah-dum-bump). I can imagine nav dbs are supported but I wonder when the last firmware update was and how long they'll be supported by Garmin.
I am following along with this tutorial on my iPad and I noticed that the green text in the lower middle-left went from ENR to TERM; mine has stayed ENR. Not sure what's going on.
Sorry this isnt about the training, can anybody tell me for certain the GTN650 can still be software updated. Thank you in advance. Sorry for the remedial question.
All we can see are pages flipping back and forth very quickly. It would be nice if you had some kinda animated shading or pointer showing exactly what you’re touching.
This presentation would have more easily followed if while talking about a press action you highlight the item to be pressed before the screen flips so we don't have to pause, backup, and scan for the item.
If you fly due east from New Jersey over the ocean you eventually reach Portugal. I used to tell students flying to the shore that they would know they went to far when they reached Portugal. Hilarious

Just got my IFR yesterday, your groundschool was a huge help, thanks for all the content.

This video made my training so much easier. Thank you for the real world scenario in using this GPS.
I wish I saw this video before. I had a great instructor but sometimes is harder for us (people who have a mother language other than English) to catch all the instructions on the first attempt. I will recommend it to some people struggling with the same! Thanks!
Had to back up dozens of times to see what you were talking about so fast. In the end it was helpful.
This was great! Thank you for making the Garmin 650 understandable to this IFR noob.
Hey FlightInsight, you the GOAT.
Magnificent detailed tutorial, this Garmin gps made navigation much easier, great video., thanks for sharing it.
Excellent video. Really exposed a few Garmin features I needed to learn.
Awesom - just the type of learning video i was looking for - keep up that great work !
Once again another great video. THANK YOU!! Incidentally, the other SWANN interception is located in my home town.
Please make more videos about using the GTN650 or 750
Awesome. With your permission I shared with other fellow pilots in the flying club I am a member of.
Of course, Abe! I'm glad to be able to put this info up for any and all. Thanks!
Really like your videos and subscribed! In case nobody has told you, you voice (tone, rhythm, inflection, all aspects) combined with the crisp editing reminds me a lot of Eric from SoCal Flying Monkey.
Thanks! I've watched a few of his videos, will have to check out some more!

This is the video i was looking for , thank you soo much SIR , for clearing my doubts , god bless you 🙏

Your videos are by far the most clear and concise. Thank you so much. I was looking for a video like this.
That's great! Thanks for your support.

This new series is great Dan. I'm learning a lot for sure. PS, We found a wing for the piper so I'll be back in that soon.
thanks kevin. Glad you'll be back flying soon.

Exceptional Tutorial

Another excellent video. Thank you!
Great video thank you keep them coming 🔥👏
Absolutely!
IFR trainee here. Somewhere around 9:13 shouldn't the approach be activated when ATC clears for the approach?
Love your vids! Thank you so much
Another great video! small nitpick, you said "swap button on the upper right" at around 7:45, and you meant upper left :)
How do I transfer my flight plan from foreflight to garmin or vice versa? Thanks!
Why does the KOVEC hold appear to show a clockwise arrow pattern but the flight is counter clockwise?
Great video. I have a question about vectors to final. If this is active and ATC changes instructions, I believe you are stuck and have to delete plan and re-enter the plan. Is that correct, would it be better to just activate a leg on the final approach

how do I change the home airport on the trainer app during the setup?
Just so you know, your likes are being throttled. I liked all of your videos last year and they are all unliked. It appears my comments are gone as well. Good stuff. You tube blows. Cheers!
When leaving mahp, you activate vector to final?!
Does it really work? You fly than to the base and turn left to 308!
Please explain.
Today while I was doing my instrument training, I was thinking this" I wish he upload something about GTN 650", and here you go.
I still have hard time when to Load the Approach and when to Load And Activate. Also, when press Activate Vectors to Final.
Great coincidence. Glad it was timely.

Fantastic!
how to change the GTN trainner software starting point??
Good video BUT, please pause before you make a selection on the unit and highlight it so it is easier for us to follow. Thanks!
Very good - thank you!
Insert before or after is where I get confused
Sorry this isnt about the training, can anybody tell me for certain the GTN650 can still be software updated. Thank you in advance. Sorry for the remedial question.
Very nice Viedo.. thanks

I loaded the Australia Swann waypoint and my auto pilot has taken me over the pacific ocean. Someone please help me!!!
This presentation would have more easily followed if while talking about a press action you highlight the item to be pressed before the screen flips so we don't have to pause, backup, and scan for the item.
Great, but I wish he would show what buttons he's pressing.
great
Great information! Could you do video like this using Avidyne IFD 550/540 ? Thanks
Very hard to follow your buttonology
I don't understand the Portugal comment.
If you fly due east from New Jersey over the ocean you eventually reach Portugal. I used to tell students flying to the shore that they would know they went to far when they reached Portugal. Hilarious
I’m not a pilot. This seems very complex and distracting to the pilot whose first job is to fly the plane.
