Pope Benedict was indeed holy, highly intelligent, enormously courageous and truly compassionate because he was sensitive and quietly aware.

As please as I was with Pope Benedicts Moto Proprio on 7/07/2007 (love that perfect number), you have to look at the entire body of his role in the church, especially beginning with Vatican 2. He has come along way, but he was not a traditionalist. I especially was not pleased with how the 3rd secret of Fatima was conveyed (some 40 years too late mind you). Please don't take this as a criticism of your comment, but rather to look at the entire life of the man. As they say, don't let the perfect be an obstacle of the good, so I do understand that about Pope Benedict.

In that article by Damian Thompson, he writes, "It’s a fair bet that, in their pre-conclave conversations, most cardinals will agree that the next pope must be someone capable of supervising an emergency repair job that clarifies doctrine, the scope of ecclesiastical authority and puts an end to the jihad against traditionalist Catholics, many of whom are a generation or two younger than the jargon-spouting Boomers harassing them." Let's hope he is right. Above all, clarification of doctrine, meaning going back to traditional Catholic teaching and affirning it strongly.

The way some Pharisees and scribes treated Jesus is similar to the way the secular and some religious media treated Pope Benedict. Jesus said that His disciples would be treated the same way that He was treated, namely people resorting to lies to try and kill the truth.

Some of the older bishop's, close to retirement, could have made a stand on this issue.
A few at a time, in three or four groups would have made an impact with Catholic, maybe even Christian families.
Think it was from the messages at Fatima that Our Lady said (speaking about bad doctrines being introduced) "Those who should speak will fall silent."

      Yes. And also contraception.
We did need to reform society in some ways regarding its relation to women, in both theory and practice, but as a **movement**, feminism was actually based in the occult - see excellent National Catholic Register author Carrie Gress in her articles & books. It's shocking. Also see the latest book from Jennifer Roback Morse called Sexual State, about the push from the luciferian elites for contaception and sexual revolution.

Very interesting discussion. It may be that also the Church may need to be subjected to a 'burning to the ground' for it to then rise from the ashes like a phoenix - something akin to the second coming of Christ but not so much as a in a single human person but in many people that are even now awakening.

Speaking of Schadenfreude and a new Pope, the following papal conversations were recorded shortly after the election of the new Pope.
“Good morning, Tucho. I have an important new job for you. I am making you Abbot of a Trappist monastery.”
“Good afternoon, Arthur. I have a new job for you. I am making you Papal Nuncio to Uzbeckistan. I think that job eminently suits your talents.”

Another comment came to my mind.
The complication of media and children being given Phones. Even with parental controls the children are very advanced in their skill of getting around to finding what they are being protected from in spite of those controls.
They become overstimulated, indoctrinated made to believe they are not enough just the way they are.
Then they are so vulnerable and inexperienced. I’m sorry where ARE the parents. The children are not even being protected in the schools because the education system does not want the responsibility. Then, on this issue somehow a very aggressive and intently orderly group approaches educators helping to facilitated the gender reassignment program as a necessity to augment grave changes to developing children in puberty and clearly excludes the parents authority of their own children.
Whereupon the sterilization and mutilation of vulnerable children is done with dire consequence’s that are irreversible.
Has anything more heinous happened to children?
Well, yes abortion! That’s an issue for another time. I only mention it here because it concerns children.
And what’s more important than children’s well-being, health, protection and education?
Apparently, every thing else matters more.
It takes decades to even bring up their horrifying issues and the damage is done. Acting in a more timely manner would have saved lives, but too many are in need of trauma therapy, if possible., innocence lost that can never be regained, disfigurement, mutilation and sterilized.
How was this so easily perpetrated?

And the phones are used for accessing pornography early, leading to misogynistic attitudes to women, culminating in deaths from domestic violence.
Accessing persons on the internet pushing gender dysphoria is also just as bad. The human brain we're told doesn't stop evolving until the age of 25, yet under age, they're being offered operations that effectively mutilate their bodies, eased by psychiatry and counselling services, which is inhabited by persons who are equally sexually dysfunctional and who were responsible for recognition of the alphabet groups as "normal". It's well known about the psychiatrists themselves who pushed these issues on the basis of science, when it was purely on the basis of their sexual preferences. The certain group of psychiatrists who were responsible for the removal of the previous classifications from the DSM manuals, were themselves supportive and active homosexuals. It comes down to a minority pushing their agenda on everyone else.
Parents do not have a chance with woke, leftist teachers bringing in these issues to a school's curriculum, and even in libraries, with the physically ugly transvestite men dressed in frocks reading sweet stories to young children, trying to normalise the oddity of it all. When I was growing up, there were notorious murders committed in Adelaide by a loose group of homosexual males that would lure young street children to their lingering and sadistic deaths using transvestite males. There were also two notorious cases, still unsolved, of child abduction, where it was rumoured that the perpetrator also was a male dressed as a female. It was, and still is the stuff of nightmares and is abnormal.
It is shameful that our progressive Pope is pushing this agenda on our Churches, with the fiducia supplicans document and the resultant blessings of these males in marriage and unholy unions and even the repulsive and highly disturbing and sacrilegious and blasphemous funeral in the New York cathedral. Honestly, he's should step down as Pope. The sooner the better, because the Catholic Church is being riddled with moral rot, and the lack of action over homosexual priests that one hears about having homosexual orgies with drugged young male prostitues, and the lack of action over paedophiles is just appalling. His inaction is beyond words. I truly hope that when he dies, all his progressive immoral rubbish is swept away, along with all memories of him as well. The Pope we didn't really need to have. Consign him as a footnote to the history books on the papacy.

Meanwhile, the bishops have omitted to state the even more obvious fact that transgenderism is gravely dangerous not just to the body, but more importantly to the soul. It's unbelievably tragic that they have to tag along after the Cass Report has (at last!) spelled out the horror being inflicted on these poor deluded young people. However, the far graver, far more important issue is eternal salvation. Obviously hell seems to be just an optional extra in these 'enlightened' times, but it's the no. 1 job of our bishops (and the Pope) to warn of grievous spiritual dangers. Transgender ideology leads to hell; it's a direct insult to God the Father. The failure of the bishops to point out this basic truth is beyond shocking.
Gavin, how funny that story of Diane Montagna - I mean, 'Tucho's answer is funny (Freudian slip?), ie that it's Pope Francis' idea that 'when he gets there' (where?) 'that hell may well be empty'. Hmmm. When Francis gets where? Hell?? Let's pray for his speedy conversion and journey to Heaven.

I wonder what Dr Ashenden makes of Larry Chapp's recent remarks in The Catholic Thing:
"The fact that Dignitas Infinita grounds its title in a statement from St John Paul II gives us a strong indication that it is in the sense of 'unending or unbounded' that this recent DDF Declaration is using the term 'infinite'. Therefore, the various condemnations from numerous sources of the document for its use of the term 'infinite' seem to be hyperbolic and uncharitable."
Even though this papacy is disastrous in so many ways and Damian Thompson's article says it all, the remark that the Pope has "gone with Rousseau" strikes me as both hyperbolic and uncharitable.

Regarding private interpretations of magisterial documents, I understood that the pope and the magisterium could not err even in non-infallible ordinary magisterium. To read the documents carefully with charity and through the lens of unerring tradition, at most I could wish they were less ambiguous. Regarding too little, too late on Rome’s teaching on transgenderism, Francis’ has spoken often over the years against it, calling it at one point, “the ugly ideology,” and in fact, there are articles in the queer community strongly criticizing the pope on his statements regarding their lifestyle choices. That said, I would like to see a non-Jesuitical approach in the next papacy!

Hyperpapalism is a heresy. The papal office is sacred and precious - individual popes not necessarily so, especially when they attempt to redefine the Faith rather than promote its abiding truth.
