    was on that route with my parents in 1957... Dad drove from Cleveland to Chicago and picked up the route there took 5 days to get to Los ANgles. It was soo hot..I will never forget it I was almost 11 then.

    Me and my friend started saving money three years ago and when we can drive we’re doing the whole thing We’ve saved about 1000 dollars so far

    I lived on it for years.. Spent 3 years in Sayre OK living on a home right on ole 66

    I say it's time to preserve it make the whole Road a national park but with any businesses that are still open on the route make them historical got to preserve Route 66

    what a shame that Oklahoma would let Route 66 fall into such disrepair that it would become a dirt road

      State Route 66 (the old US 66) in Oklahoma is in pretty good shape and gets a lot of use between Oklahoma City and Joplin.

      Yup, people coming from back East to find a better life. Just like people coming up from Central and South America. I say that for all those who like to rag on California over the whole immigration/sanctuary cities thing. If it wasn't for liberal California's "open door" policy, a lot of you would still have been sitting in a depressed dust bowl. So, please keep that in mind when considering whether California has anything to contribute to the country.

    "Depression era migrants"??? As if, this was for non USA persons! This was for persons who were relocating form one state to another. Implying this was for illegals is absurd, but the the smithsonian is a gov funded group, so...
